In recent weeks, the president has been handicapping the prospective 2020 field and finding potential challengers wanting.

In early December, as President Donald Trump’s approval rating reached a new low of 32 percent, the commander-in-chief was rating the 2020 Democratic field from behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders — who had recently bested Trump in a poll that tested the two septuagenarians in a head-to-head match-up — wasn’t a serious threat and would be easy to beat, Trump told a Republican with close ties to the White House who was in the room.
It wasn’t the lefty politics of the self-described socialist that Trump thought were a losing proposition. Instead, according to the person in the room, Trump was hung up on Sanders’ age, arguing that Sanders, now 76, wouldn’t have the energy to run another national campaign.

I may have missed it, but while there were several Dem politicos quoted in the article, every single quote from the Republican side was from an unnamed source. So this is what passes for journalism these days?

We still have three more years of Trump chaos. If he is still president after these three years, I think any Democrat will beat him. A big clue to that happening will be the outcome of the upcoming election this year, how many seats the Democrats take in the House and Senate.
Around 5 pm yesterday, we were about to leave for our literature class, already had our coats on to leave, when the front door bell rang. We had a cold front coming in and the cold wind was strong coming against the front door.
Bob opened the door and I was holding Prissy so she wouldn’t rush to the visitor (she wants to kiss and go home with anyone who comes here). Standing there trying to stay upright in the wind, was our District Attorney for Denton County. He immediately started petting Prissy and said he had a four pound Yorkie who owned him. Their other dog was attached to the wife but the Yorkie was attached to him.
He handed Bob the leaflet he was giving out and started telling about himself. I stopped him and said, “Are you a Republican?†He said yes but a Republican was running against him in the Primary. I told him I worked for the Republican Party for 12 years so he didn’t need to explain about the Primary election and I was saving him some time so he could get out of the wind. He looked relieved and said, “Then you know how an election works. You know about mail in ballots and early voting.†I said yes. He asked if he could put a sign in our yard and we said yes. He thanked us and left.
Denton County is really large, over 800,00 people, and here he was, going house to house in the freezing wind. Anyone who would do that is a serious person dedicated to his job. He could never cover the whole county, going door to door. With this kind of dedication, he is going to win his Primary.

I mean a point relative to Trump and his chances against Bernie.
Because Bernie is an avowed communist and will be 76 years old at the next election. There are a lot of undeclared communists in the democrat party but very few declared ones. That is the only thing I admire about Bernie ... he's honest about it.
Not totally sure what your problem with Trump is but most people think he's doing a pretty good job.
And he would be doing a fantastic job if he had support in Congress.
There is no Trump chaos. There is a media blitz against him the likes of which has never been seen.
He's still standing and trying to MAGA.

I think if the economy continues to improve over the next three years (Dow up to historic levels, over 26,000).... Trump will win handily, in lieu of any unforeseen event. The DemocRats have nothing in which to run on other than NT ("Not Trump" ... not Never Trump). They are recycling their shtick now, back to racist accusation...lol. The job situation is improving, with the corporate income tax lowered to 25% companies WILL come back to the USA and small business can begin to operate again now that taxes and regulations are eased. All in all, I think (again, as long as some unforeseen event does not occur) Trump will win his second term with no problem. Hell, as long as things continue this way and as long as he doesn't "lurch left"... I'll probarly even vote for him.
Speaking of cold.... how stupid is my male cat? So stupid that he has gone out in this 21 degree cold today.... has been out for about an hour so far. Both cats went flying out of the door onto the patio earlier, but the female (smart one, that) came in after ten minutes...lol. She likes her creature comforts like her human!

He would be out on the coldest nights, but always came back fine the next day. I figured out his secret. He would cruise the neighborhood, looking for a house that was doing laundry. He always came home smelling like dryer sheets, after a frigid evening.

Lol..... smart cat. Mine isn't that bright. But he does enjoy snooping in other people's garages. He was out all night once (also a cold night) and only came home the next morning. I suspect he got trapped in a neighbor's garage.

Actually, he was effected this am the first time he went out. I was watching him thru the window. He would walk across a patch of ice/snow and would start flicking his paws like "what the hell is this crap???". It was hilarious. He was back in within five minutes. But then, when my female wanted out, he went out AGAIN.... and stayed longer. Can't have her showing him up, dontcha know. lolol

I have been gone to a casino. One poster thought I was still on this thread. I leave The Briefing Room pulled up all the time so the last thread I am on shows I am there, but I am not. I missed all the kerfuffle that went on just because I made a post.

As an example of this election year, how serious it is, I told the story of the Republican District Attorney coming to the house in the cold, going door to door.
As Chaos Trump does, I have given first names to a couple of posters. They are: Meanie and Wrongly. Chaos Trump gives names to people constantly, so it must be a rightly. bigly, thing to do.

@DB, I have both Meanie and Wrongly on Ignore, as well as a few more, so I don’t see the crap they post, going after me or other people, which they do all the time. The point is, when threads are full of word fights, the fight becomes the reason for the thread and it is useless to post in the middle of word fights and that is why I don’t do it.
On this thread, I posted on the first page, one post, and the thread went downhill after that, except for the cats. Thank you, DB, and my other friends who posted on this thread.

Perhaps the moral of the story is that people who have comments to make on the subject should continue to do so, and ignore (if not officially, in practice) the passive-aggressive assaulters around here who make it a point to go after people instead of staying on topic.
I appreciate the insights of @Victoria33 , @XenaLee , @DB , @goodwithagun and scores of other posters, whether I agree with them/you all the time or not. Diverse opinions are what make places like this one so fascinating. And most of us agree with most of us on everything that matters.

I have been gone to a casino. One poster thought I was still on this thread. I leave The Briefing Room pulled up all the time so the last thread I am on shows I am there, but I am not. I missed all the kerfuffle that went on just because I made a post.

The point is, when threads are full of word fights, the fight becomes the reason for the thread and it is useless to post in the middle of word fights and that is why I don’t do it.

I find it easier sometimes to just glide by people's comments rather than go through the bother of putting them on Ignore.
I only have two of them there now.......... one is permanent, the other may be removed at some point, but not likely.
I like it when the passive-aggressive types keep their same icons so I can identify them quickly, and move quickly by.
I only have problems when I don't follow my own advice and engage them in their folly.
(btw, if that little whistle icon was a passive aggressive critique of me, who is not at all passive in my aggression, it misses the mark. I say what I think right out there. I hate games............... unless they're contact sports. ^-^)

Well... I have been "attacked verbally" here for criticizing Trump, as you probably already know. Doesn't bother me one bit, as long as those attacking don't get personal or vulgar. I'm used to it.... having posted mostly on leftist political forums previously.
My problem is... I'm on the outside with both sides, really. I'm not 100% pro-Trump since I DO and WILL criticize him if/when he does something I perceive as too squishy or pro-leftist. As long as he doesn't lurch left, I'm not going to criticize him. Especially not over something stupid like the "S-hole countries analogy". So when I refuse to criticize him over stupid stuff, I catch flak from the anti-Trump side.... and I get critique from the Trump side any time I do criticize him.
It's that olde Catch-22. Can't win either way. But really, being an individual... I think for myself. Nothing anyone says here has any effect one way or another on my perception and my political opinions. So it's all good. And I'm used to it. ^-^

If you have boots, gas mask and gloves you should be okay... You might want to make sure you're up on your vaccinations, cholera would be a good start...

Tyveks and/or chemsuit recommended at a minimum, and some sort of self-contained breathing apparatus (full face or hood) preferred. Make sure you have the right size of mask and your FIT test data is up to date.
