Title: US heads to court in effort to seize private land for Texas border wall

Three years into Donald Trump’s presidency, the U.S. government is ramping up its efforts to seize private land in Texas to build a border wall.

President Trump’s signature campaign promise has consistently faced political, legal, and environmental obstacles in Texas, which has the largest section of the U.S.-Mexico border, most of it without fencing. And much of the land along the Rio Grande, the river that forms the border in Texas, is privately held and environmentally sensitive.

Almost no land has been taken so far. But Department of Justice lawyers have filed three lawsuits this month seeking to take property from landowners. On Tuesday, lawyers moved to seize land in one case immediately before a scheduled court hearing in February.

"Since 2008, hundreds of landowners on the border have sought fair prices for property that was condemned to make way for the fence. But many of them received initial offers that were far below market value. And dozens accepted those amounts without seeking any legal help, only to discover neighbors had won far larger settlements after hiring attorneys."

Yes, it is a hit piece in that sense, that the problem has been going on for a long time. For ranch land, for irrigated farming, access to water is paramount. There's a saying out west, "Who controls the water, controls the land", and that hasn't changed.

This was, along with the environmental and other issues being raised, foreseen when the wall was promised.
Just no one wanted to hear it.

Let's not forget that there are some landowners there that have been collecting payoff money for years for allowing illegals and drug smugglers safe crossing on their property, and maybe even transportation away from the border. The people who have been doing this are not going to want to give up all that "free money",
