Fauci on Trump coronavirus comments: 'I can't jump in front of the microphone and push him down'
By Justin Wise - 03/23/20 07:23 AM EDT
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said in a new interview that he is working with the White House coronavirus task force to help ensure President Trump's remarks about COVID-19 are accurate, though admitted that the effort has its hurdles.
"I can't jump in front of the microphone and push him down," Fauci told Science Magazine on Sunday after being asked about Trump's repeated assertions that China could have disclosed the discovery of the coronavirus up to four months ago. The disease first appeared in the central city of Wuhan in December.
Fauci said that he's told the "appropriate people" that the suggestion does not comport with the facts in the hopes that the president will be more careful about his remarks.
"OK, he said it. Let’s try and get it corrected for the next time," he added.

Trump continues to be his own worst enemy because he says whatever pops into his head instead of what’s always factually accurate.
I know he’ll never learn to be more judicious, but it would certainly help him if he could.
He's painful to listen to when he's being serious and not reading from prepared remarks. You gotta read between his lines, however awkwardly delivered.@skeeter I can read between those lines pretty easily. There is one man in Washington DC whose heart weighs the heaviest with each new American death. Our President Donald J Trump. #WAAITT

"I go out to Dover and I have to — I meet parents," Trump said during a cabinet meeting in October. "It's not a pleasant thing; it's the most unpleasant thing I do. Most unpleasant thing I do."

Someone PLEASE ask Dr. Fauci just what the hell he has been doing for the last 16 years!!! Surely he hasn't been doing what the last sentence of this said should NOT be done!
0.0048% of the world has coronavirus.
He's painful to listen to when he's being serious and not reading from prepared remarks. You gotta read between his lines, however awkwardly delivered.
Epidemiologists (you know, the people who are educated and informed and not just posting cute things on internet forums?) are saying that this pandemic is still in its infancy.
That is, according to mathematics, and science, and medicine, and all that silly stuff.
ERGO, your crawling, cute stats are MEANINGLESS.
If one is even slightly interested in the truth.
Except that most Americans don't want to have to "read between the lines" to figure out what our President is saying.
The less he talks, the more he ad libs, the more confusing he becomes.
America needs clarity right now, so he needs to speak less and read everything he has to say. Let Pence and others do his talking.
Otherwise the American people don't actually know that he's doing alright in handling this unprecedented health crisis.
Fauci said nothing remotely like this to Levin last night. In fact he very clearly said precisely the opposite.
Perhaps he tailors his accounts depending upon whom he's speaking to. Or maybe someone here isn't telling the truth.

The public opinion polls, for what they're worth, do not support this opinion.
Perhaps its in the news media's interests to make it seems as though he is confused/confusing.
Skeeter........ I listen to him. What he says IS confusing, no media interpretation involved.
This is a communication flaw that his loyal supporters seem to refuse to admit is a problem, and I'm not sure why.
Every one of you knows he is a poor communicator (whether you defend it or not).
If the President is speaking in a crisis, even his most loyal fans should want clarity from him and not rambling.
It's just not there.
I truly believe that the majority of Americans really want to be able to trust him in this (the hard core haters will hate him no matter what he says or does, but not most people), but if he says one thing one day that seems to be the opposite of what he's said the day before or different from the experts standing behind him, and if he speaks off the top of his head when he's not being accurate, it harms his cause.
That's all I'm saying.
He should limit his remarks and let others speak for him.
I agree he makes me wince when he attempts to wing it. What I am saying is most people don't seem to mind.
I'm not sure about that. People are really scared right now (and rightfully so), so it's really important that the messaging is clear. You know I have been standing in a more than a few lines at stores since this insanity started started and not one of the people young or old were talking about being panicked, they pretty much expressed the opinion that this was all being blown out of proportion especially considering past situations like H1N1 and even just the flu. I'm not saying there aren't panicked people out there, because the media and democrats have done a damn good of stirring it up.
All he would have to do when asked questions is to defer to the people behind him who know more than he does, and who are advising him.
Of course the media is going to grab up every questionable thing he says because they are evil.
All I am saying is, minimize the confusion and the wince-worthy comments and let others talk for him. In DeWine's pressers here in Ohio (he is actually quite articulate) he defers the questions to the experts behind him every day. Trump needs to swallow his pride for a change, and let other people do the talking.
I hope he can do that.....

Fauci said nothing remotely like this to Levin last night. In fact he very clearly said precisely the opposite.@skeeter Are you insinuating that News Entertainer Mark Levin might have tailored his question, or selectively edited the responses to avoid any negative message? I've heard tell of the sneaky fake news doing that, but certainly a bloviator of Levin's stature wouldn't do it.

I don't remember you from TOS, but some here say you weren't always this way.
Mind me asking you what happened?
Thanks for your reply. I didn't mean to imply that you weren't a member of TOS, I have no reason to doubt you were. I only mention it because I have no way to determine whether you have indeed 'evolved' as I've heard mentioned.
And I understand why you become disenchanted with the GOP. Most of us have. I just don't understand why you behave the way you do here, constantly tweaking others with whom you presumably used to have more in common.
BTW PRND1 was an arsehole.
And so was Howlin!
Rest her soul...
She’s gone??
I just don't understand why you behave the way you do here, constantly tweaking others with whom you presumably used to have more in common. It takes two to argue and it takes two to agree.
Thats what I've heard. Within the past year or so.
