He was evidently quite handsome in his youth.

I usually DVR classic comedies to watch before I go to sleep. I ran out of what I had DVRr and have switched to classic Gunsmoke. Ken Curtis was great!

Ken Curtis' (Charlie McCorry) fight scene with Jeffrey Hunter (Martin Pawley) over Vera Miles (Laurie Jorgensen) in "The Searchers" is in my opinion one of the greatest scenes in one of the greatest movies of all time.  The theme, sung by the Sons of the Pioneers (also featuring Ken Curtis) is always moving to me.

I'm sure many fans of Gunsmoke would be surprised to learn that Ken Curtis aka Festus Haggen was a big band singer in his earlier years.  And Curtis was one of the few tv and movie western stars who actually grew up on a ranch.  Curtis was born and raised on a ranch  in Colorado.

Spade Cooley, the bandleader in that short, had a real band, and met a very troublesome fate. Google him to read about it.
(He murdered his wife)
