Title: Something strange and frightening is happening in the Pacific Ocean
Post by: Elderberry on February 11, 2021, 12:57:26 pm
The Earth Chronicles 2/11/2021

Something strange is happening in the Loyote Islands, an administrative region of New Caledonia in the Pacific Ocean.

During the last hours, a swarm of powerful earthquakes after the main magnitude of 7.9 shakes the territory. Aftershocks not only do not subside, but do not look like aftershocks at all. Earthquakes with a magnitude above 5 points, some with a magnitude of 6.4, follow one after another.

Here are the earthquakes that happened just today:

11:39:13 o.Luayote (5.7).
11:22:10 o.Luayote (5.9).
10:56:05 Luayote Island (5.2).
10:23:06 o.Luayote (5.5).
10:18:40 am Luyote Island (5.5).
09:52:28 am Luayote Island (6.0).
07:15:16 am Luayote Island (5.6).
07:09:48 Luayote Island (5.0).
05:24:20 o.Luayote (5.2).
04:24:39 am Luayote Island (5.4).
04:24:08 am Luayote Island (5.0).
04:02:04 am Luayote Island (5.4).
03:14:47 o.Luayote (5.9).
02:45:15 am Luayote Island (5.9).
02:43:21 o.Luayote (5.1).
02:32:47 o.Luayote (5.3).
02:26:27 Luayote Island (5.2).
01:54:18 am Luayote Island (5.4).
01:38:02 o.Luayote (5.1).
01:03:44 Luayote Island (5.2).
00:57:12 Luyote Island (5.3).
00:50:00 Luyote Island (5.3).
00:40:35 Luayote Island (5.6).
00:36:03 Luayote Island (5.5).
00:23:59 o. Luayote (6.4).
00:17:51 o.Luayote (5.2).

Moreover, two earthquakes today are located away from the main epicenter of activity near the Fiji Islands, which suggests that the anomaly is expanding.

One thing is clear – this is not just one powerful shock and the fading aftershocks after it, this is something completely different. The epicenter of this seismic frenzy is located at the point where hot lava emerges from the earth’s mantle.

And the consequences of the first earthquake with a magnitude, which is estimated to be from 7.9 to 7.4, are not so important now – the main thing is what happens if at the moment two Pacific plates are crawling on top of each other. Tsunamis on a number of islands have already been observed and were not high, but this is not important – we are observing something that we have not seen yet – seismic activity does not subside, but increases, and today there are two earthquakes away from the main epicenter at the edge of another – the neighboring Pacific plate.

Earthquakes along or near the Pacific Ring of Fire are strange or anomalous?

Well the planets are in alignment for the first time since 1906 :crossed:

I've been watching this map for over 15 years, and never seen anything of near this magnitude.  Look north of NZ...

Biden better hurry up and ban sub-oceanic fracking.   Tell those guys to learn to code.

It's not like a 5.0 is any big deal.

It's the most impressive seismic start to a new year this century! 29 major quakes so far in 2021 as a mag M 6.1, east of Fiji is the latest to rock the Australian Plate where almost 200 large aftershocks have occurred in the last seven days

Another, powerful, major quakes, (mag 6 or higher) has struck east of the most volatile seismic area in the world this afternoon, the 3rd major quake in the area since last night. A mag M 6.1, east of Fiji rocked east of an area where almost 200 large aftershocks have occurred in the last seven days after a mag 7.7 and a mag 7.1 struck north and south along the eastern margin of the Australia plate in the South Pacific Ocean. The area has been rumbling for a week now since the two, mag, 7+ quakes rocked the area earlier last week with the aftershocks not appearing to settle down anytime soon.

The latest major quake this afternoon helped continue the incredible seismic February so far with a total of 17 major quakes, mag 6 or higher with all the major quakes occurring along the Pacific Ring Of Fire and 10 of them along the eastern margin of the Australia plate. 2021 has so recorded 29 major quakes so far which is also very impressive considering we are still in the middle of February.

It is still early in the year of course but it is worth noting, in 2020 at this stage, 20 major quakes, mag 6 or higher had been recorded and in 2019, 17. In 2018, 17 and in 2017, just 11. in 2016, 21 and in 2015-11.

A swarm of more than 40 earthquakes in 24 hours is causing a buzz in the northwest US
CNN Updated: 2:07 PM EST Dec 8, 2021
By Pedram Javaheri

One of North America's most active fault lines sprung to life on Tuesday after a swarm of more than 40 earthquakes — ranging from a magnitude 3.5 to 5.8 — rattled off the coast of Oregon, catching the attention and concern of millions in the region.

The series of quakes, which began early Tuesday morning and continued into Wednesday, were all clustered between 200-250 miles west of the coastal town of Newport, Oregon, far enough to be mostly undetected on land, but given the area's seismic history, it is creating quite a buzz.

"If you had asked me yesterday where on Earth would be most likely to produce a bunch of magnitude 5.0+ quakes in a single day, this would have been high on my list," Harold Tobin, Director of the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network at the University of Washington, told CNN.

The fault line responsible for the quakes is the Blanco Fracture Zone. According to an analysis by Oregon State University, it is more active than the infamous San Andreas Fault in California, having produced more than 1,500 quakes of magnitude 4.0 or greater since the 1970s. ...

Why experts aren’t worried that 10 earthquakes were just recorded off the Oregon coast
Dec. 8, 2021 at 7:13 am Updated Dec. 8, 2021 at 10:53 am
By Christine Clarridge
Seattle Times staff reporter

Ten earthquakes — including one with a magnitude of 5.8 — were recorded off the coast of Oregon on Tuesday, according to the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network.

But not to worry.

The earthquakes occurred more than six miles below the surface of the water, none of them were felt on land and no tsunamis were expected, according to the National Weather Service and the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network.

No injuries or damage was reported by the U.S. Geological Survey. ...  Seattle Times (https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/why-experts-arent-worried-that-10-earthquakes-were-just-recorded-off-the-oregon-coast/)

Is this just SOP for the fault system as it slowly accommodates itself, or is this a potential harbinger of a "big one"?

One would think the more it moves in one place along a plate junction the more pressure is applied to other locations that have not moved nearby that same plate junction.

One would think the more it moves in one place along a plate junction the more pressure is applied to other locations that have not moved nearby that same plate junction.

On the other hand, a series of small shakes could be an indication that it is slowly relieving pressure that has built up along the fault lines, in a way that minimizes the potential damage, rather than building that pressure up even further to a point where there will eventually be a catastrophic release.

Where it has been locked for many decades while constantly moving both north and south of it is the place to watch out for. South of Parkfield California on the San Andreas fault line is such a place. Last time it moved there was in 1857 and it moved nearly 30 feet from one side of the fault to the other. It is past due.

 @mountaineer

I'm guessing they are not worried because none of them live on the coastline.
