Colorado lawmakers drafting ban on semiautomatic weapons

By Jesse Bedayn - Associated Press - Tuesday, January 24, 2023

DENVER — Two decades after the 1999 Columbine High School massacre and two months after five people were killed at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado lawmakers are drafting a sweeping ban on semiautomatic firearms.

If passed, the ambitious legislation would make Colorado the 10th state in the nation to ban the sale and transfer of certain semiautomatic guns while grandfathering in the state’s existing ones. California passed its ban in 1989, and most recently, Illinois’ ban was signed into law two weeks ago.

While Democrats hold large majorities in both chambers of Colorado’s Legislature, the bill faces uncertain prospects.

The draft legislation has already sparked conservative backlash and lawsuit preparation from the local branch of the National Rifle Association. While some Democratic leaders have given it tentative support, others have refrained from taking a stance - along with Democratic Gov. Jared Polis, who’s been noncommittal when questioned about the bill. It has yet to get a hearing in Colorado’s statehouse, which kicked off its session earlier this month.

One of the bill’s sponsors, Democrat Rep. Andrew Boesenecker, said there remains a long runway before the legislation’s introduction, with more stakeholder input to hear and potential concerns to accommodate. Boesenecker remains confident in its support, adding, “I always count my votes.”

Liberals are always hot to step on our 2A rights, especially after some psychotic or terrorist shoots up a bunch of people.  Not surprisingly they are loath to actually enforce the laws to put criminals in prison or the lunatics off the streets, or to make sure criminals and those with known mental health issues are entered in the data base so they don't pass background checks. Thank goodness we have a majority on the SC that is actually ruling for our 2A rights, I hope they slap down liberals like these in Colorado, Illinois, California, Oregon, Washington and everywhere else the socialists try to disarm Americans.

Well, they haven't done much "real slappin'" as of yet.

ALL of the states that have passed super-restrictive gun laws STILL HAVE those laws on the books.

Such as New York State, Connecticut, California, Massachusetts, Oregon, Illinois, etc.

I've seen NOTHING yet from the Supreme Court that would invalidate those laws.

Please show me where I'm wrong.

Another Fishrrman Fearless Prediction™:
Just as the "reparations wave" is spreading across blue America, we will soon see a "rush to restrict" gun rights and gun sales.
The blue states will be falling over each other to see which one can pass the most restrictive law against the Second Amendment.

See?

THIS is the kind of thing you see when you refuse to put up a fence to keep Californian's out.

Yeah, they've just found another beautiful State full of resources to ruin.

If they ban semi-automatic weapons, re-criminalize marijuana in the state.  The hippies can smoke tail pipes.

They will do their slappin once the restrictive unconstitutional laws have made it through the lower courts, as they have signaled. Once the first of these blue states laws are overturned the rest will fall like dominoes, no matter how much their fascist governors like Noisome try to fight it.

PUHLEEEEZE! Those other states have been bastions of liberal lunacy without California's help, but you go right ahead and excuse them because....California!

Seems to me that the "Safe Act" in New York has been in place for ten years now, and has survived all challenges [nearly] intact.

Why has no one (or organization) challenged it into the federal courts yet?

It's been there TEN YEARS.

What's it gonna take?

Under your avatar is your quote "Dumbest member of the forum"... You are underselling yourself big time... I agree with you here... it is coming. Then all that will be left is whether you comply or not. @Fishrrman

The SCOTUS should be stomping this in the ground... they are playing coy and it doesn't bode well for us.
