CAIR-CA Welcomes Governor Newsom’s Signing of California Eid State Holiday Act
     September 28, 2026
CAIR press release

The California chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CA) today welcomed Governor Gavin Newsom’s signing of Assembly Bill (AB) 2017, which recognizes Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha in state law and addresses a longstanding challenge for the state’s more than one million Muslim residents who are often forced to choose between practicing their faith and showing up to school or work.

Authored by Assembly member Matt Haney and co-sponsored by CAIR-CA, the California Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander American Affairs, and the Muslim Impact Council, AB 2017 permits state and school employees to observe Eid using existing personal holiday credit or leave time. The bill also authorizes K-12 schools and community colleges to close in observance Eid through locally negotiated agreements.  ...

This is about indoctrinating children about Islam. CAIR wrote the bill.

... State workers can use leave they already have. Schools can close if the local unions agree. And the State Board of Education can write a classroom guide about Eid. California has about 39.5 million people. Roughly 500,000 are Muslim. That’s about 1 percent.
Easter doesn’t get that curriculum guide. Neither does Yom Kippur. ...

Gavin Newsom Adds Woke and Islamic Holidays to the California Calendar

Democrat Governor and presidential hopeful Gavin Newsom has signed into law new legislation that adds two Muslim holidays to the state calendar.

The bill updated the list of California holidays to include Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, allowing for school closures and work exemptions for state employees. While the legislation recognizes the new holidays on the California calendar, state employee observers are required to use holiday credits to use them, and courts and other offices will remain open. Students are to be issued excused absences when requested.

Additional legislation of a similar vein signed by Newsom added “Native American Day” to the docket of paid holidays. The additional costs of payroll expenses and lost productivity are expected to cost California taxpayers up to $20 million annually. Newsom hopes that the added holiday will “challenge misconceptions about California Indians and address what it describes as an incomplete understanding of Native American societies in the teaching of California history,” according to the California Post.

Anyone thinking California will run out of days for holidays doesn't understand California politics.  They'll just add a few days to each month and have plenty of time for holidays.  State's rights, you know.

Liberals will fight to the death over the ‘separation of church and state’ and also fight to the death to end any ‘separation of mosque and state’.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom is in the news again after signing AB 2017 proposed by Aisha Wahab, an Afghan Muslim best known for persecuting Hindu Americans, who is now a Congresswoman and urged developing relations with the Taliban.

The bill adds two Muslim holidays, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, to the state calendar. That’s more than the one holiday, Christmas, that Christians have.

But the real agenda can be found in Sec. 3, about a third of the way down the 15 page bill.

It would seem to violate the separation of church and state clause of the Constitution.  Ah, its California  so what does a minor detail like the Constitution make? :smokin:

There is no 'separation of church and state' clause in the Constitution.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

True. But it does appear California is ignoring, "shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion."
