US greenlights $60M in military assistance to Haiti amid rampant gang violence
The move is seen as an apparent attempt to go around Republican oversight efforts.

The Biden administration has approved a $60 million military aid package to help Haiti quell violent gangs wreaking havoc in the country, according to documents obtained by POLITICO.

The package, the second the U.S. has approved for the Haiti crisis this year, includes mostly small arms but also some armored vehicles. The notification lists at least 80 Humvees, 35 MaxxPro infantry carriers, sniper rifles, riot control gear, firearms, ammunition and surveillance drones.

The move would send weapons and equipment to the Haitian National Police as well as to nations supporting the multinational security mission to help quell the violence in Haiti: Kenya, Jamaica and the Bahamas among others, the memorandum of jurisdiction for the drawdown reads.

Why Everyone Thinks Biden Had an Accident in Front of the Press Corps
Matt Vespa
2–3 minutes

I was willing to let this slide, but everyone and their mother seems to be commenting on Joe Biden’s awkward pause before the White House press corps at the White House. Just let the record show that this is a fun post, and all of you can comment as you please below, but the pause—just watch how he stops. Many think that the president might have had an accident:

Joe is also old, and when they stop, the elderly can look awkward. Who the hell knows, but it led to many posts on social media about what this stance represents. It’s not a significant story, but it does add the narrative that the man is too frail and mentally degraded to be president. It’s why his team is moving to shorten his speeches to reduce the chances that he’ll meltdown in front of the cameras, which, knowing Joe, is bound to happen multiple times, especially when the campaign season begins to pick up steam.

US Troop Levels in Pacific Take Center Stage as Defense Secretary Huddles with Allied Defense Leaders

HONOLULU -- Amid a gathering of top defense leaders from across the Pacific in Hawaii, Pentagon officials said Thursday that the U.S. not only needs to grow its ties in the region but also bolster the number of troops there to deter China.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, while standing alongside his counterparts from Australia, Japan and the Philippines, said that the four leaders "discussed how we can deepen our trilateral cooperation to strengthen stability and security."

However, one military official also said that the U.S. needs "an improved force posture and it needs to be west of the International Date Line ... so that we can have a lethal and combat credible force" closer to China, Russia and North Korea.

Austin's day of meetings with his counterparts in the region comes as China continues to expand its campaign of harassing and threatening nearby countries and their ships in the South China Sea.

It'll take more than carrying a rosary
By Silvio Canto, Jr.

Don't look now but there are some Catholics getting ready to vote.   And they are going to vote for President Trump over the Catholic contender.

This is the story:

    Catholics in the U.S. have swung dramatically against President Biden in recent years, now boasting a significant statistical break towards his GOP challenger.

    Pew Research released on Apr. 30 a report exploring support for presidential candidates sorted by religious affiliation.

    The poll found that 55% of Catholics support or lean towards supporting former President Donald Trump in a head-to-head against Biden.

So much for Joe Biden and his claims to be carrying a rosary or else making the sign of the cross when another politician is praising reproductive rights and mocking a political leader who opposes them.

My guess is that shift goes beyond religion.  I would argue that it has a lot to do with inflation, the price of gasoline and an international situation that could put us in a war any day.  Then you have the chaos in our streets, the lawlessness, as well as an insane social agenda, and you have a lot of people like me wondering if he is just playing with the beads.

My guess is that abortion is a mover in this electoral movement, too.  After all, Mr. Biden has come a long way from "legal, safe and rare" to late-term abortion up until the day of birth.  At some point, people can see that our president has no backbone and will read whatever the leftist cabal puts in front of him.

Under Biden Tax Plan, Capital Gains Tax Will Exceed 50% In 11 States

Quote
President Joe Biden floated a bevy of tax increase proposals as part of the president’s FY 2025 budget. That budget comes in at a cool $7.3 trillion, and someone has to pay for it. That likely means serious tax increases, and the president is not shy about proposing them. Much of his focus is on getting higher income taxpayers to pay more, but the one that seems to be capturing the biggest headlines is his planned reboot of capital gain taxes. Higher federal rates plus state taxes will mean paying over 50% in some cases.

If you sell your stock, property or crypto and you’ve held it for more than one year, you get a classic tax break. Long-term capital gains are taxed at lower rates than ordinary income. But how much lower depends on your income. If your taxable income is $47,025 or less, you pay zero tax on your long-term capital gain. If your taxable income is from $47,026 to $518,900, you’ll pay 15% on your long-term capital gain. ...

How about state taxes, you might wonder? The Daily Mail noted that there are 11 states where Americans will face at least 50% capital gain tax under this plan. If the Biden plan passes, for the taxpayers caught by the new rule, here are the combined state and federal rates taxpayers might pay on their capital gains:

    California 57.9 percent;
    New York 55.5 percent;
    New Jersey 55.5 percent
    Minnesota 55.45 percent;
    Oregon 54.5 percent;
    Maine 51.75 percent;
    Nebraska 50.44 percent;
    Idaho 50.4 percent;
    Iowa 50.3 percent;
    Kansas 50.3 percent; and
    Georgia 50.09 percent.   ...

Divisions in the Dirt: The Army’s plan for the next big war
By Todd South

After decades of being a brigade-focused Army, the shift is on to the division fight. Training will only get tougher. (Pvt. Anastasiya Ludchenko/Army)
Thousands of enemy troops pour across the border, invading the sovereign nation of Pirtuni — a staunch U.S. ally.

The “Donovians” rush infantry, armor and anti-aircraft systems across their border — which looks much like Russia — into Pirtuni, which resembles Poland on a map. In response, the “Pirtunians” rapidly assemble their own division to counter the attack, but they need support.

The Army’s 3rd Battalion, 4th Security Force Assistance Brigade, already in the region working with local forces, lends its aid, and more troops are coming. Thousands of soldiers from the 1st Armored Division quickly arrive, followed by a battalion of Marines and Air Force assets of all stripes are on stand-by.

Pouring over maps stretched out across folding tables inside an abandoned building at Fort Irwin’s National Training Center in California, 1st Armored Division commanders, mission planners, operations and intel officers, and a host of other soldiers try to decide how best to respond to the combined live and simulated campaign — a wargame designed to get them ready for a conventional fight.
