Navy Unveils Updated Plan to Help Ship Watchstanders Get Better Sleep

Military.com | By Richard Sisk

The Navy has a new plan to get sailors in the surface fleet more uninterrupted sleep before they stand the watch.

Under the updated Comprehensive Fatigue and Endurance Management Program (CFEMP) issued Dec. 11, commanders are instructed to arrange shipboard schedules as best they can to allow sailors to work, eat and sleep at the same time each day.

The new instructions are aimed at changing a cultural mindset in the fleet that treats work and watch as separate entities, according to a Dec. 21 Navy release.

I don't know about other ships, but on a carrier with 20 ton planes landing, planes taking of with full afterburners, and the hanger deck repair work, it is LOUD!!  If a person sleeps within about 7 decks of the flight deck, they aren't getting the best sleep in the world but may have trouble getting to sleep if there is an airops stand down.  Your brain gets used to all that racket and when it isn't there, may make it tough to get shut eye.  Maybe the Navy will just order people to sleep better. :poohappen:
