Navajo Code Talkers museum project draws bipartisan support in New Mexico

By ROBERT NOTT | The Santa Fe New Mexican | Published: February 23, 2019

SANTA FE, N.M. (Tribune News Service) — A 94-year-old state senator’s dream to open a Navajo Code Talkers Museum and Veterans Center on Navajo land in McKinley County may finally become a reality with the help of a few of his friends.

Senators from both major political parties have agreed to provide some of their own allotment of capital outlay money for the project, Senate Majority Leader Peter Wirth, D-Santa Fe, said Friday.

“He’s the longest-serving member in the Senate, and this is a project he’s been working on for a long time,” Wirth said.

Very long over-due and well deserved. We've lost all the code talkers that I'm aware of, and we are very close to losing their language and culture. This is a perfect example of how that knowledge and history shouldn't be lost. You never know when you need something like this- like we did then.

It is a fascinating story, about how they invented their own code, which made it all the more difficult for anybody to break.

Truly national heroes.

Yes.  Long over-due.   Since schools don't teach history anymore (they rewrite it) it looks like we will need more memorials and museums for remembrances.  Well until the JSW decide to remove them for some offence not yet know by the yet to be "Woke"
