Trump asked staffer to delete footage at Mar-a-Lago in bid to obstruct classified docs probe, feds allege
By Katherine Donlevy
July 27, 2023 7:00pm
Donald Trump allegedly asked a staffer to delete camera footage at his Mar-a-Lago estate in a bid to thwart the classified documents probe, according to a superseding indictment in the case that includes additional charges against the former president.
The updated federal indictment filed Thursday accuses Trump of additional acts of obstruction and willful retention of national defense information.
A third defendant, Carlos De Oliveira, was also charged in the case Thursday, alongside Trump and valet Walt Nauta, who were both charged last month in a 38-count indictment with conspiring to hide classified documents at the 45th president’s Florida home.
Prosecutors believe Oliveira, the property manager of Trump’s Florida estate, helped the former president move 30 boxes from the premises to a storage room.
He then later moved the boxes to Trump’s estate in Bedminster, New Jersey, the indictment claims.
A Trump spokesperson dismissed the new charges as “nothing more than a continued desperate and flailing attempt” by the Biden administration “to harass President Trump and those around him” and to influence the 2024 presidential race.

These are the same feds who turned off Mar-a-Lago security cameras while they rummaged through Melania's lingerie drawers.

They’re so desperate that they just indicted the Mar-a-Lago Head of Maintenance, Carlos De Oliveira.

Trump charged with additional counts in special counsel's classified records probe

Former President Donald Trump was charged with an additional count of willful retention of national defense information and two new obstruction counts as part of a superseding indictment out of Special Counsel Jack Smith's investigation into his alleged improper retention of classified records.
"Today, a superseding indictment was returned by a grand jury in the Southern District of Florida that adds one defendant and four charges to the prior indictment filed against Donald J. Trump and Waltine Nauta," the Justice Department said in a statement Thursday. "The superseding indictment adds a new Count charging Trump with one additional count of willful retention of National Defense Information."
"Carlos de Oliveira, 56, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, has been added to the obstruction conspiracy charged in the original indictment," the DOJ said. "The superseding indictment also charges Trump, De Oliveira and Nauta with two new obstruction counts based on allegations that the defendants attempted to delete surveillance video footage at The Mar-a-Lago Club in summer 2022."

This is ridiculous.
-
Was Carlos under a court order to preserve all video footage? Did he know he was doing anything other than complying with his employers instructions? Just what threats and pressure will they bring to bear against him to say whatever they want about Trump?
-
It is unclear how much footage, or if any footage, was deleted from the server. In a filing last month, prosecutors revealed they had obtained both “complete copies of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage” and “‘key’ excerpts” from the cameras.
So last month, the prosecutors claimed the CCTV footage was "complete", but this month they are accusing a maintenance guy of deleting it?
-
Are these the same cameras the jack-booted "authorities" ordered turned off when they raided Mar-a--Lago?
-
Trump wove every inch of the rope now being used to hang him and these others. Maybe taking everything personally and shooting from the hip only works for stupid reality TV shows, but not real life??

Yeah, he's going down. But it may be too late to matter.
Seems Ty Cobb was also correct about Donald's senate choices in July 2022:
“[Trump] is a disaster for the Republican Party for which he prevented a Senate majority in 2020 and, as time will demonstrate, has already done the same for 2022 with his endorsements of unelectable candidates all based on their loyalty or his own driving desire for revenge,” Cobb told NBC News.
Cobb also said Trump has been cashing in on the “big lie” that the 2020 election was stolen

On the one hand, I know how gullible the republicans are. On the other, I know some of them want to nominate a cartoon character just to burn the party down. Maybe we would all be better off if the populists formed their own party to incinerate. They could outflank the left on economic matters.

I think one thing is for certain; Trump is going down. It would be better for the GOP if that occurred sooner rather than later.

Could?

Just a reminder: Lawfare is the use of legal systems and institutions to damage or delegitimize an opponent, and to deter the individual's usage of their legal rights.
