.
A bipartisan House passed a massive aid package to Ukraine, ending a monthslong stalemate over whether the United States had the political will to continue funding Ukraine’s defense against Russia’s ongoing invasion.
Lawmakers overwhelmingly voted in favor of the $60.84 billion package during a rare weekend vote series on Saturday, marking the first Ukraine aid supplemental to pass the lower chamber in months. The bill passed in a 311-112 vote, with Democrats making up the vast majority of support for the supplemental package.
House Democrats erupted in cheers and applause when the bill passed, with several lawmakers waving Ukrainian flags on the floor. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) later reprimanded those lawmakers, noting it’s a violation of House rules to wave flags on the House floor.
The Ukraine bill allocates billions of dollars to replenish defense weapons and services provided to the wartorn country as it continues to stave off an invasion from Russia for over two years. The bill includes $11.3 billion to maintain U.S. military operations in the region as well as another $13.8 billion to secure advanced weapons systems and other defense services.
The legislation also includes a requirement for other foreign allies to participate in cost-matching programs and mandates a repayment agreement with the Ukrainian government.

House passes revised TikTok ban and sanctions on Iran in national security bill

.
The House overwhelmingly passed a national security supplemental package that combines multiple pieces of legislation seeking to bolster U.S. security as well as force sanctions on Iran after an attack on Israel last weekend.
Lawmakers voted 360-58 to advance the 21st Century Peace through Strength Act, one of the bills in Speaker Mike Johnson’s four-pronged foreign aid package being voted on by the House on Saturday. The other three bills provide funds to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, while the fourth bill focused solely on strengthening U.S. national security.
“In order to truly confront the generational threat posed by the unholy alliance of Russia, China, and Iran, we need to make substantive policy changes in addition to providing critical security assistance to our partners and investing in our defense industrial base,” Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX) said in a statement ahead of the vote. “The time to pass this is now — we cannot wait anymore.”
The legislation includes a number of bills that had already garnered support from the House Foreign Affairs Committee, including a revised TikTok clampdown that passed the lower chamber last month but stalled in the Senate.

BREAKING: CIA Director William Burns secretly flew to Kyiv to warn President Zelensky that Washington was aware of his personal corruption and his unwillingness to remove any of the dozens of officials known to be deeply involved in diverting defense funds to personal accounts. Washington expressed anger due to Zelensky taking too large of a cut, according to Seymour Hersh.

The U.S. government is considering sending additional military advisers to the embassy in Kyiv to help advise the Ukrainian government and military, according to the Pentagon.

It's difficult for the simple-minded to grasp, perhaps, but one can oppose the idea of the U.S. handing out tens of billions of American dollars (that we don't even have)* to another country without said opposition equating to support for any of that country's enemies.
*We're deeply in debt to China so that we can hand out goodies to Ukraine, Taiwan, Israel, just about every African country, Haiti, you name it. That makes such perfect sense. *****rollingeyes*****

No, it couldn't have been.
Why our we securing Ukraine and not the U.S.A. ?? :patriot:
Because 1) the Democrats in the Senate refuse to pass HB 2, and Biden refuses to sign it, and 2) Biden refuses to use powers already at his disposal to provide better border security. Even if we did allocate more money for the border, Biden would use it for resettlement rather than securing the actual border.
House Republican leadership cannot change that, and they have tried. The core problem is that the open border mindset within the Democratic party is too strong, it controls both the Senate and Presidency, and nothing can change that except an election.
Seems like a lot of people don't want to address that reality.
-
This will change nothing. We are stuck in yet another completely avoidable quagmire. Ultimately, Russia will end up with what was negotiated years ago, and we will have paid for hundreds of thousands of needless deaths.
The political pushback on this will come in November.

If you send hundreds of billions of US taxpayer funds to fight the elites’ lengthy proxy wars, you’re a great American. If you want to address the policy goals of struggling Americans, you are a Russian stooge. Such idiotic discourse among some.

You're not going to like this post.
I'd like to see the Russians WIN and get it over with.
Yup, I said it.
The Ukranians should have invited the Russians to negotiate early on just after they had bloodied the bear's nose quite a bit. They MIGHT HAVE gotten a better deal than they're going to get now. And a good part of their nation wouldn't have been destroyed in the process.
Now, all that's in the Ukrainian future is a negotiation on Russian terms, or worse, loss of the entire country.
I told you that you weren't going to like this post.
But I call 'em as I see 'em.
And that's the only outcome I see down the road here.

Does anyone on earth believe Ukraine can defeat Russia?
-
Does anyone on earth believe Ukraine can defeat Russia?
I think they can fight them to a standstill, as they were doing before they ran out of ammo over the winter. They'll probably never get Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk back, but they can save the rest of their territory and their sovereignty, and retain control of the Dnipro River.
-

Yup, I said it.
I would rather see the Ukrainians WIN and get it over with. Much more comfortable with a victorious Ukraine as an ally and European energy stabilizer than a victorious Russia as not only an enemy, but a supporter of all US enemies and a threat to our allies. Yup, I said it. Because it makes sense.
The Ukranians should have invited the Russians to negotiate early
Yeah, and the US should have invited the Japanese to negotiate early right after they took Wake Island, bombed Pearl Harbor, and invaded the Philippines.
just after they had bloodied the bear's nose quite a bit.
Uh, I think you got that backwards. Russia is the aggressor here. Russia is the one bloodying Ukraine.
They MIGHT HAVE gotten a better deal than they're going to get now. And a good part of their nation wouldn't have been destroyed in the process.
What deal would that be, pray tell? I guess you seem to have forgotten that Russia tried to take the whole country by marching a 100k strong army to the outskirts of Kyiv while Putin was calling them all drug addicts and criminals. Where was the negotiation in that?
Now, all that's in the Ukrainian future is a negotiation on Russian terms, or worse, loss of the entire country.
It is precisely because they chose to fight back that they haven't lose the entire country.
I told you that you weren't going to like this post.
You're right. I don't like your post. Because it is complete BS. Russia can end this war any time it wants. By getting their troops the hell out of Ukraine. It is really that simple. And I wholeheartedly reject the surrender you advocate that will put Russian troops on the Polish and Romanian borders while handing the entire Black Sea over to the Russian Navy.
-
Does anyone on earth believe Ukraine can defeat Russia?
Inside of Ukraine? Absolutely. The success of their tactics has been remarkable. Over 400,000 Russian casualties. Hundreds of aircraft lost. Over six thousand tanks, ten thousand APVs and artillery pieces each lost. Russia's capacity to wage war against us or the rest of Europe has been radically reduced. The innovations that Ukraine continues to employ have changed the way of warfare for the future.
It really doesn't take much to help out Ukraine in this effort. Unfortunately, the US is still stuck in old ways of thinking. Instead of spreading money around to other NATO countries, the US could mass produce drones that have proven highly effective and generating the casualties that the Red Army has experienced. Just that alone will make Russian losses unsustainable. Russia is losing roughly 100,000 troops every six months. Russian conscription is barely keeping up. Triple the drones, and Putin will be facing revolt as conscription numbers turn towards Moscow and St. Petersburg.
-

Great question.
Mike Johnson is losing capital fast.

I'm more than okay with such a resolution. I was wondering whether any other country is trying to get Ukraine and Russia to settle their differences, or do other nations - like the U.S., apparently - want to perpetuate this quagmire indefinitely?

Here's the problem, Mountaineer...there's no way to settle differences with a bad faith, expansionist power like Russia, led by an obsessed former KGB killer like Vladimir Putin. He has broken every agreement he has ever signed and invaded three countries since coming to power in 1999. He's using the so-called "salami tactic," which finally backfired on him in Ukraine. But his goal is clear...rebuild the old Russian empire, with himself as a neo-Tsar. You can't negotiate any peaceful settlement outside unconditional surrender and annexation with somebody like that...it's akin to Hitler and Chamberlain and Molotov and Ribbentrop. And there were no serious differences between Ukraine and Russia until 2014, when the Russians invaded and annexed Crimea. Russia started it all!

So why would Keating need to do that, IF true? It's already a matter of public record...just do a web search for the final vote.

Obsequious congressmen like Keating went to Kiev to accept Zelensky's thank$ for the new allotment of cash (whatever form that may have taken).
Again, why give VZ a list in person of the pro-Ukraine congressional voters when, as Timber Rattler pointed out, it's a matter of public record?
