Ineffective and Problematic Senate Border Bill Rises from the Dead
More Frankenstein than Lazarus, a stunt to shift blame to the GOP for the border

By Andrew R. Arthur on May 21, 2024

The Washington Times has reported that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) plans to bring an ineffective and problematic border bill — negotiated in secret by Sens. James Lankford (R-Okla.), Krysten Sinema (I-Ariz.), and Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) with the assistance of DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in the late fall and early winter — to the floor for a vote. That bill looked dead on arrival shortly after it was unveiled, and no one thinks it’s going to pass the Senate this time, so Schumer’s plan is really more a political stunt to shift blame for the border catastrophe to the GOP than a legislative strategy. If they hope to fix the border, the GOP and security-minded Democrats should have a better response than the first time this proposal saw the light of day.

Chaos at the Border. This bill is only an issue because the border has been in a state of chaos since shortly after President Biden took office in January 2021.

In the 14 fiscal years prior to FY 2021, apprehensions at the Southwest border never exceeded 860,000 and topped 800,000 just twice — in FY 2007 (858,638) and in FY 2019 (851,508).

In response to that latter border surge, then-President Trump implemented a number of policies to deter illegal migrants by denying them the ability to live and work in the United States while their removal hearings were proceeding, most famously (and successfully) the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), better known as “Remain in Mexico”.

All the Red states need to do this. Let the illegals camp out in the Blue states on their dime.

The trial of Sen. Bob Menendez grinded to a weeklong break on Tuesday after federal court jurors who were treated to a brick-by-brick build of the prosecution's bribery case got stuck in an elevator a day after they were forced from their usual assembly room because of flooding.

Judge Sidney H. Stein said jurors were trapped in an elevator for several minutes during what was supposed to be a 10-minute late-afternoon break that lasted almost a half hour.

The elevator breakdown came as jurors were shuttled between floors to an assembly room because carpeting in their usual assembly room just outside the courtroom was found to be soaked on Monday after somebody left sink faucets on over the weekend. As jurors left for the day, Stein humorously warned them: “Don't all get into one elevator.”

The mishap came on a day when prosecutors slowly tried to build their case against the Democrat with evidence they hoped would score points with jurors against Menendez and his two co-defendants — two New Jersey businessmen who the government claims paid him bribes consisting of gold bars, hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and a car.

“They Literally Don’t Give A Damn”: CA Dems Vote Unanimously To Keep Protecting Illegal Immigrant Pedophiles

LISA MOORE CONTRIBUTOR

California Assemblyman Bill Essayli had his microphone turned off today when he forced a vote on an assembly bill that seeks to end California’s ‘sanctuary state’ protections for illegal immigrant pedophiles.

“Assembly Democrats unanimously blocked the vote [on Assembly Bill 2641], thus allowing illegal immigrant pedophiles to remain protected from deportation,” the California Republican Assembly Caucus stated to Daily Caller in a press release.

“I’m completely outraged that when we had an opportunity today to roll back sanctuary state policies that protect illegal immigrants who are convicted of committing sex crimes against minors – we’re talking about pedophiles – [and] that every Democrat in that building refused to support it,” Essayli said during his Media Availability block following the vote, which he posted to YouTube.

“They doubled down and they reaffirm that their policy – the law of the land in the state of California – is to protect criminal illegal immigrants who’ve been convicted of the most heinous crimes against minors,” Essayli continued. “And it’s on record and we have the vote, so I hope the public sees what happens today and they make their voice heard.”

Imported malaria cases in three southern border jurisdictions more than doubled in 2023 from the year prior, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“During January–December 2023, a total of 68 imported malaria cases were identified from reportable disease surveillance systems in Pima, Arizona (18 , San Diego, California (27), and El Paso, Texas (23),” the CDC said in a May 9 report.

This is 143 percent higher than the 28 cases in 2022 when there were three in Pima, 12 in San Diego, and 13 in El Paso.

Perhaps Delta has put some of the illegals to work handling baggage. The golfers among us may want to rethink how we ship our clubs.

New York Migrant Complains: Not Enough Welfare, Aid

by WARNER TODD HUSTON 21 May 2024

A migrant from the Dominican Republic told reporters that New York’s government is not living up to its promises to help migrants settle in American neighborhoods and to be handed freebies and jobs.

Yaniry Pena spoke through tears to WHEC-TV in a video posted Friday, and blasted officials of New York’s Monroe County for making life much harder than she expected.

According to the report, Pena and her children left their Dominican Republic home and made their way to El Salvador and embarked on a dangerous month and a half trip to the border where they crossed into the U.S.A.

Pena says that she has been traumatized by how she has been treated in New York as she spoke to the news outlet through an interpreter because she speaks no English.

“It’s very traumatic,” the bitter Pena said. “She says it’s been quite traumatic. Everything that has been told to us to come to Monroe County, to Rochester hasn’t been fulfilled.”

ANALYSIS: Biden’s ‘Senior Center’ Campaign Shuffles Into New Hampshire

“I’m waiting for someone to shout ‘Bingo!'”

That’s how one journalist covering President Joe Biden’s visit to the Westwood Park YMCA in Nashua described the scene as a quiet crowd awaited an appearance by the leader of the free world.

It’s not a fair comment, of course. Bingo is actually fun.

Fun was not in evidence in the hushed, half-filled hall of the Westwood Park Y on Tuesday. The crowd was subdued, almost funereal. Elevator music seeped softly out of the sound system, and people spoke in low tones around the room.

In the back of the room, where cynical reporters, tech crew, and political hacks hang out, someone snarked, “Maybe Biden died?”

“How could you tell,” came the reply.  ...

There were more people lined up along the road outside the Y, waving Trump flags and chanting “Let’s Go, Brandon!” than listening to Biden speak
