Trump won't attend annual St. Patrick's lunch at Capitol
By Justine Coleman - 03/08/20 12:07 PM EDT

President Trump will not attend the annual St. Patrick’s Day lunch on Thursday at the Capitol, officials confirmed to The Hill.

The president will skip the traditionally bipartisan lunch, which has been held each year since 1987, Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), said on Sunday.

Four presidents have skipped the lunch in that period, typically sending their vice president in their place. Vice President Mike Pence will also not attend, Hammill said.

“There has never been stronger support in the Congress and in the country for the U.S.-Ireland bilateral relationship,” Hammill said. “One would think that the White House could set petty, partisan politics aside for this historic occasion.”

Shampeachments have consequences nancy. Trump has lots of ways to show support for and work with Ireland without honoring the House's dishonorable conduct.

I would guess it is more related to the virus outbreak than anything else. He's going to have to stay away from people for at least several months to manage the risk.

It's so refreshing to see a Pub who doesn't "make nice" with people who keep trying to stick a knife in his back.

I may be wrong but I think most Americans of Irish ancestry will not find Trump refusing to attend this lunch an offense against their tribe.
