Trio of Hunter Biden’s exes to be called in felony gun case: Prosecutors

Special counsel David Weiss is planning to feature highly personal testimony about Hunter Biden‘s drug addiction during his trial on felony gun charges, seeking the testimony of three past romantic partners — including the first son’s ex-wife.

The expected prosecution witnesses in Biden’s trial include his ex-wife, Kathleen Buhle; Lunden Roberts, an Arkansas woman with whom he had a daughter; and Beau Biden’s widow, Hallie Biden, whom he also dated.

Prosecutors say one witness, who is believed to be Hallie Biden, will testify that President Joe Biden‘s son was in possession of a revolver in 2018 and that she took it from his car and placed it into a dumpster near a grocery store in Wilmington, Delaware.

Roberts’s testimony is also expected to be used to divulge Hunter Biden’s chronic crack cocaine use around the time of his possession of the gun. Prosecutors say she “observed the defendant using crack cocaine frequently — every 20 minutes except when he slept,” according to a court filing that does not name her specifically.

“The government intends to show videos and photographs of the defendant smoking crack, or of crack or drug paraphernalia in videos/photographs backed up to the defendant’s Apple iCloud account or laptop, or sent in the defendant’s messages,” prosecutors wrote.

Other witnesses whom Weiss plans to call include the gun store employee who allegedly sold the first son the revolver in 2018. Also introduced into evidence for the case is a 75-page list of text messages between Hunter Biden and friends and close family members at the time when he was struggling with drug addiction and in possession of the firearm.

The trial is expected to begin on June 3, and a three-judge panel has already rejected Hunter Biden’s request to overturn the trial judge’s rejection of several motions to dismiss the case.

The Trump trial suffers a nervous breakdown

THE TRUMP TRIAL SUFFERS A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN. The trial of former President Donald Trump is now in its sixth week in Manhattan. Even though it doesn’t meet every day, the court sessions are intense and can wear on all the participants. It is particularly unfortunate when they wear on the judge who is in control of all the proceedings. That is what appears to have happened late Monday, at the end of a very odd day, when Judge Juan Merchan abruptly ordered the courtroom cleared — of everyone, including press, even though the trial is public — when Merchan apparently lost his temper over a witness called by the Trump defense.

The witness was Robert Costello, a well-known lawyer in New York. Costello had once been the lawyer for Michael Cohen, who was once Trump’s lawyer and who, according to testimony in the trial, has spent the last several years lying about Trump, stealing money from him, evading taxes, and defrauding banks, among other activities. Manhattan prosecutors have based key parts of their case against Trump on Cohen’s word.

Having Costello testify was a last-minute decision by the Trump defense. He had knowledge of Cohen’s credibility, having been Cohen’s lawyer, and by an unusual series of events, Cohen had waived attorney-client privilege concerning Costello, meaning that Costello could testify about their communications. Costello testified that Cohen told him that Trump did not know about the nondisclosure agreement payments to porn star Stormy Daniels. “Michael Cohen said numerous times that President Trump knew nothing about those payments, that he did this on his own, and he repeated that numerous times,” Costello said.

Crime Getting So Bad In Oakland, Officials Replace Traffic Lights With Stop Signs

LISA MOORE
CONTRIBUTOR
May 20, 2024

At the intersection of E. 12th Street and 16th Avenue in Oakland, California, drivers are now greeted with four-way stop signs hanging overhead where traffic lights used to hang.

The City of Oakland replaced the traffic lights with stop signs in response to months of recurring copper thefts and tampering with the lights’ electrical power boxes, CBS San Francisco reports.

“It’s just telling us that the city is giving up on us,” Tam Le, owner of Le’s Auto Body & Engine Repair at the intersection corner, told CBS San Francisco. “The city did try to fix the traffic light at least a few times. But once they fixed it, normally within a week or so, it will go out again.” (RELATED: Copper Wire Thieves Cost Blue City Hundreds Of Thousands Of Dollars: REPORT)

“Neighbors say the [stop] sign is a sign and a reflection of the city’s condition. They say the city’s inability to clear a homeless encampment next to the intersection is leading to this kind of issue,” Da Lin, who discovered the city’s action, reported on a KPIX broadcast.

A temporary tax on business?  No way San Jose!  Any tax ultimately is paid for by consumers which they will ignorantly, happily pay as long as it's hidden like a business tax. :tongue2:

I've been highlighting the fact the past 2 months that in the GOP primaries that there is a consistent, persistent, and pesky 15-20% of voters who are  going out of their way to vote for "other".

Trump, and his handlers are making no secret of the left populust shift,, versus the 2016 and 2020 versions.   Can Trump win with a nice share of conservatives staying home, or only voting down ballot?

Newsom Said He Wouldn’t Raise Taxes To Fix California’s Deficit. His Budget Proposal Includes $18 Billion in Tax Hikes for Businesses.

Susannah Luthi
May 20, 2024
California governor Gavin Newsom (D.) told reporters earlier this month he wouldn’t raise taxes to fix the state’s $73 billion budget hole, but buried in his latest budget proposal are $18 billion in temporary tax hikes for businesses.

Earlier this month, the governor repeatedly pledged he would not raise taxes to solve the budget crisis—which comes just two years after he boasted a nearly $100 billion surplus—telling reporters that "the answer is no," should Democratic lawmakers bring him tax hike proposals, and that "there’s only so many times I can say no to the tax question."

"I don’t see there’s real evidence and need right now to increase general taxes … in this state and put more burden on working folks and our competitive posture," he told one reporter who asked him if tax hikes were an "absolute nonstarter" for him.

Newsom unveiled his budget proposal on May 10, and the tax policy details the following week. The proposal would, for the next three years, bar businesses earning $1 million or more from deducting operating losses from their taxes while also limiting business tax credits. The provisions are projected to cost California businesses about $18 billion through 2027, although they wouldn’t take effect if tax collections beat expectations. Such a scenario appears unlikely, however, given that California’s tax revenues are massively down thanks to a stagnating economy and exodus of both high-earning residents and businesses.
