Here's the outlook right now from Ahmed Hawary, a spokesman for the June 30 front, the opposition coalition backing the protests. He claims that Morsi is under house arrest and that the Army has made its decision. "Everything seems to be going fine," he says. "Everyone is going to follow the road map."
Hawary says there is talk of a transitional government made of multiple leaders. And he had a dark prognosis for Morsi: "Everybody is calling for Morsi to be tried and imprisoned for his crimes."
Official announcement of what's next, he says, could be in minutes but possibly a couple more hours, saying the Army might lock down security first. — Mike Giglio

A Cairo woman on Instagram tweets this photo that reportedly depicts the army rolling into Tahrir Square. Another, in Opera Square, shares a similar photo on TwitPic. The New York Times' Kareem Fahim shares a photo he says depicts "Islamists fighting with officers" on their tanks, and that the soldiers were ordered down from their vehicles.

Al Arabiya: Morsi moved to center attached to Defense Ministry. Unclear if there for own safety or under arrest #Egypt #EgyptABC
From ABC's Luis Martinez (@LMartinezABC) at the Pentagon:
Pentagon Press Secretary George Little has confirmed that Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel called Gen. Sisi yesterday. Little says Hagel initiated the call but he would not get into the specifics of the call. He also confirmed that Hagel had called Sisi late last week, again he provided no details.
Was cutting off U.S. military aid a part of the discussion? Little would only speak in general times saying “I think we’re still in a period where speculating isn’t prudent. We need to walk very carefully through this situation. This is a crisis that involves the Egyptian people and the focus should be on them and their focal process and what decisions they make in the coming hours and days.”
Little spoke in general terms that “U.S. officials at various levels of our government, have been very clear about our position that the U.S. remains committed to a democratic process in Egypt and does not support any single party or group. We’re obviously monitoring events in Egypt closely and we hope that violence is abated. We note this is a tense period and we’d hope that this situation can be resolved through a political process. ”
For the last several days Little has not acknowledged that any phone calls had been made by Hagel beyond saying he did not have any readouts of a phone call to provide. Gen. Dempsey spoke with his counterpart Lt. Gen. Sobhi on Monday morning, about an hour before the Egyptian military announced its 48 hour ultimatum. No readout has been provided of that phone call either.
He also said that there have been no requests for U.S. military assistance from the State Department to secure the embassy in Cairo. A force of almost about 150 Marines, currently stationed at Sigonella, Italy, has been on standby should they be needed to help with protecting U.S. personnel in Egypt. However, they can only be allowed into Egypt with the permission of the
Egyptian government.

Morsy out of 'the decision-making circle'
Cairo (CNN) -- Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy "is no longer a part of the decision-making circle," the state-run Al-Ahram newspaper said Wednesday, citing "a senior official source."
"The president is no longer able to make any political decisions now and a decision has been taken to prevent leaders loyal to the current regime from traveling overseas until the General Command of the Armed Forces are finished formulating their expected statement," it added.
The announcement came less than two hours after the nation's first democratically elected president offered to form an interim coalition government and as one of his aides and a Muslim Brotherhood spokesman said it appeared that a military coup was under way.
"The presidency's vision includes the formation of a coalition government that would manage the upcoming parliamentary electoral process, and the formation of an independent committee for constitutional amendments to submit to the upcoming parliament," Morsy said in a posting on his Facebook page.

In Sinai, Egyptian security forces have been on high alert along the borders since the morning, according to Ahram Arabic.
Security measures have also been tightened up near the tunnels into Gaza and around security installations in the deserted peninsula.
19:24 Ninety-three Egyptian diplomats, some based in the ministry of foreign affairs headquarters in Cairo and some based abroad, have declared a strike, reports state agency MENA. The diplomats object to the “failure of the president to meet the people’s demands.”
The minister of foreign affairs resigned yesterday.
19:20 The pro-Morsi coalition, the National Alliance to Support Legitimacy, will hold a press conference on the latest developments tonight at 10pm in Al-Rabaa Al-Adawiya, according to the Muslim Brotherhood’s Twitter account @Ikhwanweb.

20:15 Fireworks are lighting up the sky in the streets near to Ittihadiya presidential palace, reports Ahram Online’s Bel Trew.
“People are singing and dancing, and some are holding posters of military figures chanting ‘the heroes are here,’ ” adds Trew.
20:10 Mohamed El-Beltagy, deputy head of the Freedom and Justice Party, gave an angry statement to Al Jazeera English from the pro-Morsi rally Rabaa Al-Adawiya Square.
“This is nothing short of a coup. A coup against legitimacy, against the will of the people, against the ballot box, and the democratically approved constitution. Everyone knows that we have never initiated violence. Our offices and our leaders were attacked; many of our supporters were killed amid silence from army and police.”
El-Beltagy condemned the military’s statement and rejected the army’s interference in the political crisis.
“These masses [in Rabaa Al-Adawiya Square] are not seeking a confrontation with the army, but they refuse to see the army siding with one faction of the people against another, re-entering the political arena and being part of this division. We will not seek violence but we will not surrender our right to fight attempts of subverting people's will.”

Bakr further added that the movement has nominated leftist politician Hossam Eissa to be one of two deputy prime ministers, suggesting that the second deputy be a member of the Islamist current.

21:02 Here we go. Chief of Egyptian armed forces, Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, is speaking live on Egyptian television.
20:55 Another statement by an opposition group, clearly anticipating an announcement that meets their demands.
The 30 June Coordinating Committee, a coalition of anti-Morsi groups, releases a statement refusing any foreign pressures exerted on the armed forces to pull it away from the popular movement and portray its stance as a coup. It also rejects attempts by the Muslim Brotherhood and its allies to abort the “popular revolution” which went to the streets by the millions.
The statement declared its rejection of what it describes as the US standing by the Muslim Brotherhood for its own interests.
The current unprecedented popular movement is a continuation of the January 25 revolution, the statement asserted, and “will achieve its goals of justice and dignity by the struggle of its people”.
“We call on national forces to remain united in its path in the face of any attempt to divide” the statement read.
20:50 A presidential source tells Ahram Arabic that President Mohamed Morsi was informed by the army at 7pm that he is no longer president.

The armed forces would never turn a blind eye towards the aspirations of the Egyptian people.

The armed forces understood the demands of the Egyptian people. We are committed to fulfilling our responsibility.

U.S. eases away from Morsi
The U.S. Government Wednesday panned Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi's most recent speech to the Egyptian people, saying the address fell short of detailing the reforms the Egyptian leader needed to promise to quell massive street protests.
State Department Spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the U.S. "felt there was an absence of significant, specific steps" in Morsi's Tuesday night speech. "Unfortunately, that was not a part of what he talked about in his speech.....There's more that he needs to do," she added during a daily briefing for reporters.

New Tunisian protest movement takes cue from Egypt
(Reuters) - Tunisian opposition activists have launched their own version of Egypt's Tamarud protest movement, whose campaign to remove President Mohamed Mursi drew millions onto the streets and led to an army ultimatum for the Islamist leader to share power.
The youthful, little known leaders of Tunisian Tamarud (Rebel) hope to galvanise opposition to their own Islamist-led government which, like Mursi, came to power after an uprising in 2011 swept an autocratic leader from office.

Like its Egyptian namesake, the Tunisian group accuses the Islamists of trying to usher in a religious state that smothers personal freedoms and failing to drag the economy out of crisis.
Its members said they planned to call for mass protests after quickly gathering the signatures of about 200,000 people opposing the government.
That is a fraction of the 22 million signatures their Egyptian counterparts said they collected

Wasn't Morsi in prison until a prison break?
-
The anti-Morsi crowds are roaring, reports ABC's Alex Marquardt (@Marquardta). The assumption is that President Morsi’s done after just one year and four days. The head of Egypt's Supreme Council of Armed Forces, General Sisi, said the constitution is dissolved and the head of the constitutional court will take charge. Sisi also called for a technocratic non-partisan government and a committee to study changes to the suspended constitution. Sisi made no suggestion that President Morsi will stick around for a transitional period.
But it’s very hard to imagine the Brotherhood will go away quietly. After all, President Morsi told us last night that he rejected the ultimatum and is the legitimate leader. Stay tuned.

21:50 The official website of the Muslim Brotherhood, Ikhwan Online, writes that the military’s announcement is a "conspiracy against legitimacy, a military coup that wastes popular will and brings Egypt back to despotism."
The statement continued: "Religious scholars condemn the coup and affirm the necessity of upholding the elected president. Symbols of the defunct regime are coming back to the scene at the expense of the blood of the martyrs of the 25 January."
The statement also claimed that "millions in many squares in Egypt have started a sit-in in support of legitimacy."
The website also reported that armed forces, deployed a few hours ago around Rabaa Al-Adawiya Mosque, are personally searching everyone getting into the pro-Morsi sit-in and preventing people from chanting in support of Morsi except after they’re inside the square.
21:34 The head of Egypt's High Constitutional Court, the most senior Egyptian court, is Adly Mansour. He was promoted to the position in June.
21:32 Attendees at the press conference where El-Sisi gave his speech included a number of top military and police officials who sat in two rows on either side of the podium; the Coptic Orthodox patriarch Tawadros II; the grand imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed El-Tayyeb; ElBaradei; a representative of Nour Party; Mohamed Abdel-Aziz, one of the anti-Morsi Rebel campaign's founders; and a senior judicial figure.
21:30 Liberal politician Mohamed ElBaradei spoke at the army-held press conference. He says the roadmap drawn up by the military will guarantee the fulfillment of Egyptians' main demand – early presidential elections.
"I hope that will mark the beginning of a new era for the 2011 January revolution," he added.
21:28 The grand sheikh of Al-Azhar said that he supported the call for early presidential elections based on an Islamic precept that the better of two evils is a religious duty,. Accordingly, those gathered decided to hold early presidential elections, their fairness guaranteed by the judiciary, the armed forces and the police.
21:25 The Brotherhood's FJP just tweeted "history will tell that the first decision of the military coup, in which the advocates of democracy participated, is putting off air all opposition channels," a reference to the Brotherhood's channel and other Islamist owned channels being blacked out after El-Sisi's announcement.
21:22 At the press conference where El-Sisi spoke a few moments ago, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed El-Tayyeb, is speaking, followed by Coptic Orthodox Patriarch Tawadros II.

22:15 Live footage shows thousands of Morsi's supporters gathered in front of Cairo University to protest the army's announcement.
Yasser Soliman, a supporter of Morsi, said the military's announcement is an implicit call for civil war.
"The army chose to appease one part of the population against the other. They [the military] are basically setting the streets on fire, calling for civil war. These people [Morsi's supporters] are willing to sacrifice their life in this situation," Soliman said in a live interview with Al Jazeera International, speaking from in front of Cairo University.
"No other president could have solved the economy's problems in one year. His opponents used violence to pressure him; why didn’t they just wait for next elections?" he continued.
-
CNN reports the sound of gunfire near pro-Morsi demonstrators, adding that Muslim Brotherhood followers had been training with sticks in preparation for violence. The crowd is chanting “victory or martyrdom.” The Egyptian military, CNN reports, is 400 to 500 yards down from the pro-Morsi demonstrations.

23:30 That's it from the live updates today. Some sporadic violence is being reported in Egyptian governorates, with four people confirmed dead, but in Cairo things are still peaceful. The mood in Tahrir Square and at Ittihadiya presidential palace is jubilant - although the campaigns against sexual harassment are warning on Twitter that sexual assaults are taking place in Tahrir.
23:25 More clashes being reported outside Cairo.
There is violence in Kafr El-Sheikh in the Nile Delta, which has led to 118 injured so far, Ahram Arabic reported two hours ago.
Clashes between opposition and Morsi supporters started at 7pm. Forty-three Morsi supporters taking part in the clashes were arrested for illegal possession of weapons. Despite the clashes, cheering crowds flooded the streets of Kafr El-Sheikh immediately after El-Sisi’s statement.
23:20 The clashes in Marsa Matrouh seem to have worsened. The city, on the western part of Egypt’s Mediterranean coast, is known to be an Islamist stronghold. Health ministry officials confirmed that 4 people have died in the violence and 13 are injured. According to an Ahram correspondent based in the city, Morsi supporters attacked the governorate headquarters after El-Sisi's statement, leading to clashes.
23:10 Ahram Online's Bassem Abou El-Abbas is at the Rabaa Al-Adawiya pro-Morsi sit-in in Cairo. He says the mood is angry but not violent; the area is surrounded by troops who are not allowing anyone to enter or leave the sit-in. Eyewitnesses told El-Abbas that after the military's announcement, three cars' windows were smashed, but that seems to be the extent of the violence. He says that the army which is surrounding the protest is not allowing anyone to enter or leave the sit-in.

Ted Cruz: Obama’s Egypt policy a ‘stunning diplomatic failure’
Posted By Brendan Bordelon On 4:36 PM 07/03/2013 In Daily Caller News Foundation | No Comments
Texas Republican Sen.Ted Cruz blasted the Obama administration’s policy toward Egypt in a scathing op-ed in Foreign Policy magazine, slamming the president’s stance on the Muslim Brotherhood “one of the most stunning diplomatic failures in recent memory.”
As the Egyptian military ends President Mohamed Morsi’s rule, Cruz points out that the ire of many people in the streets of Cairo is not reserved for the Muslim Brotherhood alone.
“The people protesting in the streets were not only carrying anti-Morsi signs,” Cruz writes. “They were also carrying signs with slogans like ‘Obama Supports Terrorism’ and ‘Obama Supports Morsi,’ as well as pictures of the American ambassador to Egypt, Anne Patterson, with a large red ‘X’ through her face.”
Cruz believes that the 22 million Egyptians committed to ending Morsi’s rule are largely secular, pro-democratic people dismayed at the religious authoritarianism slowly strangling their country.
By throwing America’s weight behind Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood, Cruz argues that President Obama has alienated potential allies in the region.
“The United States is — in both perception and reality — entrenched as the partner of a repressive, Islamist regime and the enemy of the secular, pro-democracy opposition,” he writes.
Over the past year, the Obama administration sold high-tech military hardware to the Muslim Brotherhood regime and sent $250 million in foreign aid to Egypt, even while Morsy repeatedly clashed with his nation’s judiciary and allowed Egypt’s large Christian minority to suffer at the hands of Islamic fundamentalists.
Cruz argues that this lent Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood much-needed strength and legitimacy.
As the movement to depose Morsi picked up speed in recent weeks, President Obama withheld his support from the opposition, instead sending Ambassador Anne Patterson to try to talk protesters out of their plans.
“Some say that street action will produce better results than elections,” she said at a Cairo seminar. “To be honest, my government and I are deeply skeptical.”
By pursuing a “policy of strategic silence” instead of supporting the secular democratic opposition, Cruz warns that the Obama administration has provoked hostility towards the United States and may have missed a golden opportunity for “meaningful change” in the region.
But questions remain over just how secular and democratic Morsi’s adversaries really are. Human Rights Watch reports that scores of women have been gang-raped at opposition rallies over the last several days.
And Al-Monitor notes that Egypt’s Salafist parties, which interpret Islam even more strictly than the Muslim Brotherhood, hope to use Morsi’s weakness to their own advantage.
Other observers argue that U.S. aid helped the military leaders ousting Morsi more than the Muslim Brotherhood.
Cruz concludes by encouraging Congress to halt all aid to the Muslim Brotherhood and exhorting his fellow lawmakers to “find the courage to speak out forcefully on behalf of those advocating secular democratic reforms in Egypt.”

President Obama’s statement on Egypt
Statement by President Barack Obama on Egypt
As I have said since the Egyptian Revolution, the United States supports a set of core principles, including opposition to violence, protection of universal human rights, and reform that meets the legitimate aspirations of the people. The United States does not support particular individuals or political parties, but we are committed to the democratic process and respect for the rule of law. Since the current unrest in Egypt began, we have called on all parties to work together to address the legitimate grievances of the Egyptian people, in accordance with the democratic process, and without recourse to violence or the use of force.
The United States is monitoring the very fluid situation in Egypt, and we believe that ultimately the future of Egypt can only be determined by the Egyptian people. Nevertheless, we are deeply concerned by the decision of the Egyptian Armed Forces to remove President Morsy and suspend the Egyptian constitution. I now call on the Egyptian military to move quickly and responsibly to return full authority back to a democratically elected civilian government as soon as possible through an inclusive and transparent process, and to avoid any arbitrary arrests of President Morsy and his supporters. Given today’s developments, I have also directed the relevant departments and agencies to review the implications under U.S. law for our assistance to the Government of Egypt.
The United States continues to believe firmly that the best foundation for lasting stability in Egypt is a democratic political order with participation from all sides and all political parties —secular and religious, civilian and military. During this uncertain period, we expect the military to ensure that the rights of all Egyptian men and women are protected, including the right to peaceful assembly, due process, and free and fair trials in civilian courts. Moreover, the goal of any political process should be a government that respects the rights of all people, majority and minority; that institutionalizes the checks and balances upon which democracy depends; and that places the interests of the people above party or faction. The voices of all those who have protested peacefully must be heard – including those who welcomed today’s developments, and those who have supported President Morsy. In the interim, I urge all sides to avoid violence and come together to ensure the lasting restoration of Egypt’s democracy.
No transition to democracy comes without difficulty, but in the end it must stay true to the will of the people. An honest, capable and representative government is what ordinary Egyptians seek and what they deserve. The longstanding partnership between the United States and Egypt is based on shared interests and values, and we will continue to work with the Egyptian people to ensure that Egypt’s transition to democracy succeeds.

Walid Phares on Fox saying half the people who worked for Morsi have quit before this coup because the man is such a disaster they didn't want to be labeled an enemy by their neighbors.

Wow! What a kick in the a$$, huh? One minute thinking you're King of the World and the next.....you're back in jail.
-
Also....another possible slant here.
What if Obama had been funneling weapons, etc., to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt...for this kind of event that is transpiring right now.
We'll soon find out how sophisticated the arms are...in the hands of the MB, as it's being reported that as soon as they announced Morsi's removal, the churches were being burned.
Sure hope the military protects ALL Egyptians from these losers.

The 4th estate is nothing more than lap dogs for the 5th column and should be ignored, if not destroyed
-
I hope there's some way they can flee, if need be.
There may well be a need.
The MB is incensed that power has been wrested from them by the people of Egypt, and they will be out for even more blood.

The military should heavily arm the Copts, who predate Islam at least by 600 years. Coptic Catholicism was formerly the dominant religion in Egypt before the crapweasels destroyed everything -- including the irreplaceable library collection at Alexandria. Leaving would be caving to the savages--I believe they should fight per the Battle at Lepanto.

Couldn't have said it better, as a matter of fact, I'll probably use it.

I am amazed that CNN aired that clip.
Obama...........unpopular in the Muslim world.
And after all that slobbering and groveling.
Apparently Egyptians are brighter than leftist Americans who still worship the Marxist usurper.

I was smiling at the very long delay between the question regarding Obama and the audio response.
Even though I realize it's the satellite causing the delay....it was fun to imagine he was thinking...."Oh sh*t! Do I really have to answer this?"

This is what too many ignore... how much of the ME were Christians before they were invaded by Islam. The MB even wanted to destroy the Pyramids... they were out to wipe every semblence of Egypts real history off the map.
-
I'm stunned CNN showed that - especially the banners. Wonder if management at CNN will catch a clue?
