Police in Papua New Guinea have confirmed at least 53 people were killed in an ambush in the nation's highland region, in potentially the worst massacre in the country's recent history.

Authorities believe the ambush in PNG's Enga Province was a major escalation of tribal violence, which has been steadily increasing since the last election and spiked in August last year.

At least 53 people were confirmed shot in the massacre, police said, with graphic videos and pictures of the dead emerging online in the aftermath of the killings.

Local authorities are now calling for calm in the region while they continue to investigate the circumstances around the ambush. ...

Yikes is right.  So I looked up safest countries.

It is really sad, that the U.S.A. doesn't even rank anymore as one of the safest countries in the world. Even Germany and Croatia are safer.  **nononono*  The U.S. ranked 129th!!
