Economy/Business / Re: Why This Chinese EV Poses Threat to US Auto Industry
« Last post by banddag on Today at 01:40:16 am »Apparently, we learned nothing from the Japanese car invasion of the 1970s. The trade barriers ruined the US auto industry because the trade barriers meant they did not have to compete. So Detroit built a lot of crappy cars like the Ford Pinto and the Chevy Vega and Corvair. Ultimately, the barriers had to be lifted because we could not build globally competitive vehicles.I get what you are saying and sorta agree with it but Japan is not communist China who considers the US it's #1 enemy.
Have you looked at the prices of new cars lately? Why wouldn't we want some competition so that people can have affordable transportation? The trade barriers on this car will just mean that people in other countries will have access to more cars at better value than we in the USA are. That is pathetic.
I also think the industry has learned from past mistakes...at least I hope so.
Musk did say our Ev industry spent too much on top of the line Ev's and ignored the middle class which Chinas ev's s are geared too
