Officials believe they've captured alligator that killed boy

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Florida wildlife officials believe they've captured the alligator that dragged a 2-year-old Nebraska boy into the Seven Seas Lagoon at Walt Disney World.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said in a news release Wednesday that it has suspended alligator trapping activities in the area. The release says officials have based their conclusions on expert analyses and observations by staff with extensive experience in investigating fatal alligator bites. A total of six alligators were removed.

There has to be a way to fence them out of the Disney area lakes or hunt them until there aren't any left around there. No way I'd let a kid near that water.....no way.

There are a lot of interconnected lakes and canals there. Particularly in mating season there's just no way to contain the gators. Gators can even climb chain link fences. Maybe the state would allow them late night hunts, but really, the area is just huge and given Disney's need to maintain a certain reputation it would have to be very discrete. Can you imagine your average northerner, there with kids, paying hundreds of dollars per night for any of the hotels that are on the lagoon and seeing someone out wrangling a gator? There's no way they could be 100% sure there were no gators. Besides that, there's the water moccasins.

Look at the size of the lakes just on Disney property. It's not just the Seven Seas Lagoon, that Disney man made. I think they say it took 7 years to build it. It's connected to Bay Lake. There's the small ponds at the adjacent golf courses, plus any of the canals that connect, about 70 lakes/ponds and 10 canals within the about 80 square mile Shingle Creek drainage basin.
