KUSA - The son of US Senator Mark Udall (D-Colorado) faces felony charges in Boulder County for breaking into cars and possessing heroin.

According to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, 26-year-old Jed Udall was released on bond Wednesday night after being booked on three counts of first-degree criminal trespass and possession of a controlled substance.

All four counts are felonies.

Deputies say Jed Udall broke into three cars on the 4700 block of Eldorado Springs Drive around noon on Wednesday, saying that they also found heroin on Jed Udall at the time.

This is not the first time Jed Udall has been in trouble with the law. He was cited in December for stealing Advil and Imodium from a Boulder King Soopers, according to a police report.

Sen. Udall and his wife Maggie have two children, Jed, and a daughter named Tess.

"Maggie and I are deeply distressed to learn of our son's arrest," Sen. Mark Udall said in a written statement provided to 9NEWS. "We love our son and stand with him in his commitment to getting the treatment he needs. We appreciate the private space to deal with this as a family."

Jed Udall was released on a $1,500 bond Wednesday. His next court appearance is Feb. 20.

Stealing Advil and Imodium? There's a joke in there somewhere.

What did he hope to get breaking into cars? Doesn't seem too bright.

They found heroin on him, too.  From the look of his picture he is a real charmer.

Age 26, adult, repeat offender. Parents should stay out of it entirely and let him make his way in life.

Putting up bail money enables him to be out, and probably using drugs, maybe thieving, before his next court appearance.

Leaving him in jail gives him time to clean up, consider his life without the expectation that big, powerful daddy will recue him again.

Conviction for felonies may lead to prison time. Prison time is enough for some people, to decide it is time to change their lives.

This fellow may not know it yet, but he does not look happy or fulfilled. He could be so, by abstinence, restitution, etc.
