Quote
MSNBC's Joy Reid hosted University of Pennsylvania professor Anthea Butler on The ReidOut, where both Reid and Butler slammed "White Evangelicals" who choose not to get the COVID-19 vaccine, be it for skepticism or religious concerns.

Reid insisted that "White evangelical resistance" is a "public health problem" and that churches are "preaching against the vaccine." Butler, a professor of Africana Studies who also served as a Catholics for Biden co-chair, concurred with Reid by insisting that countless people would die as a result of the decision not to vaccinate.

“We're going to have a lot of funerals in those churches where they refuse to wear masks and everything else because they believe Jesus is going to save them and that, ‘It’s just my time.'"

Butler also called White Christians "racist" for calling COVID-19 the "Chinese Virus" and said liberal evangelicals are tired of conservative evangelicals’ "homophobia."

My family attends a couple of Evangelical churches in Silicon Valley, one a MSM-bogey-megachurch (which means large attendance, multiple services, more than one facility, and being involved in the church's community ... scary stuff!). Neither preach against any vaccines, masks are the norm in the services I attend, and the fatalism she claims is non-existent. OTOH, people who depend on masks to "save them" are fooling themselves.

Universities like the University of Phoenix and DeVry University should send schools like UPenn for employing bigots like this, thus driving students who want useful careers to alternatives.

Well, one has to factor in media ignorance in terms of proper Christian factions...

Everything that ain't a Catholic is an evangelical to them. In my experience anti-vax (and anti-mask) tends to be more prevalent in Fundamentalist (like me) and Pentecostal circles... Although the independent Evangelical church down the way from me do not require masks and have spoken, at least personally, in mild agreement with anti-vax.

I will hasten to say, that is not my church - I really have no church as you would likely define it. But I do use that church for tithing and for consideration in elders and deacons - One has to be submitted, and that's as close as I get.

Generally speaking, in general, generalizations seldom work. Reality is more complex than stereotypes.

My evangelical Presbyterian pastor (a former surgeon, btw) has publicly thanked God that vaccines have become available. That's pretty much all he's said on the matter. He hasn't tried to influence anyone's decision whether to receive the shot.

That is generally true, generally.
