LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A Christian ministry’s long-stalled plans to build Noah’s Ark in the hills of Kentucky have been revived.
Creation Museum founder Ken Ham announced Thursday that a municipal bond offering has raised enough money to begin construction on the Ark Encounter project, estimated to cost about $73 million.
Groundbreaking is planned for May and the ark is expected to be finished by the summer of 2016.
Ham said a high-profile evolution debate he had with “Science Guy” Bill Nye earlier this month helped boost support for the project.
Nye said he was “heartbroken and sickened for the Commonwealth of Kentucky” after learning that the project would move forward.

I think the Noah's Ark is being built at the Creation Museum, which I think might be a tourist attraction. It could be argued that it brings money to the area.

So do strip clubs but nobody is arguing they should be provided bond money.

Well, strip clubs tend to attract criminal elements sometimes, I doubt that they have had that kind of problem with the visitors to the Creation Museum. I went to their website, and it sounds like it is quite an attraction - like an amusement park with lots of activities. Sounded kind of fun!

The private religion-affiliated (Christian Church Disciples of Christ) college in my area got the county to issue bonds to build their dorms a few years back, and we found that offensive. I oppose issuing gov't bonds to benefit a private entity, religious or not.

I'm sure it will bring some money in, but that doesn't justify spending public money to fund a private religious building.

That would make them so-called private activity bonds (http://www.msrb.org/glossary/definition/private-activity-bond-_pab_.aspx). The interest on these is probably fully tax-exempt because they're probably treated as qualified 501(c)(3) bonds.

I saw a documentry on the Discovery channel that proved the flood was indeed possible.

Anything's possible, but the details of the Noah story are highly improbable.

People have been doubting the Noah story since Noah’s neighbor looked out his window and said “dang, it looks like rain.” That “doubt” is the Noah story. Not the rain, not the flood, not the animals, not the rainbow. That doubt , the sins, and the chance to start over (the redemption) is the Noah story, and a prelude to the Jesus Story.
