Pennsylvania Republicans threaten impeachment over redrawn electoral map
by Salena Zito | Feb 22, 2018, 11:42 AM
PITTSBURGH — Pennsylvania Republicans are appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court and threatening to impeach the state's supreme court after the body approved a redrawn electoral map that heavily favors Democrats.
Late Wednesday, Pennysylvania's House Speaker Mike Turzai and Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati submitted an emergency request to nation's highest court requesting a block on implementing the new lines drawn by the state court.
“The Pennsylvania Supreme Court conspicuously seized the redistricting process and prevented any meaningful ability for the legislature to enact a remedial map to ensure a court drawn map,†they wrote in their request.
Turzai and Scarnati said their argument was based on the state court's violation of the U.S. Constitution by legislating from the bench.

Here's hoping the SCOTUS takes up this issue.

Nice. @Frank Cannon

I don't see how they can avoid it.

This is the most amount of life I have seen out of the state GOP apparatus in 25 years.

Given how they just this week ducked two important Second Amendment cases that Justice Thomas took them to task on...it would be very easy for them to duck this issue as well.

Hopefully the good folks in fly-over Penn will take note.

The silver lining here is that Sam Alito covers the 3rd Circuit which includes PA.

Good! The courts have zero constitutional authority to draw election districts period!

The PA GOP is also filing suit in federal court so they are covering all their bases. They have a pretty strong argument to make against the judiciary drawing election maps. If this is left to stand it will be a free for all over the nation with activist judges going wild with redistricting.

Yeah! Exactly right! A can of worms that must not be allowed to open.

No body is talking about this, but this is all part of Soro's design. That's why he was dumping money into Sec of State races and state SC races.

That is my view as well. This is an important Constitutional, separation-of-powers issue that the SCOTUS should take responsibility for.
-
They should go ahead and impeach the state supreme court, and redraw the maps to their liking. The SCOTUS will balk at any case worth taking - they are beyond worthless. And in any event, this needs to be settled soon.

Oh, they were pretty good at getting us a hefty gas tax.
