Justice Dept inspector asks US attorney to consider criminal charges for McCabe: reports
By Katie Bo Williams - 04/19/18 02:27 PM EDT

Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz has issued a criminal referral to the U.S. Attorney's Office in D.C. related to fired FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe, according to multiple reports.

The referral was made some time ago, according to The Washington Post, after the inspector general concluded that McCabe had lied to internal investigators and former FBI Director James Comey over his contacts with the media during the 2016 election.

It is not clear whether the U.S. Attorney's office has acted on the referral in any way. Referrals are not binding on prosecutors to act.

Spokesmen for Horowitz's office, the U.S. Attorney's office, the Justice Department and McCabe all declined to comment.
