RealClearPolitics' Trende: 2014 Looking Like Big GOP Year
Thursday, January 23, 2014 06:16 PM

The upcoming 2014 elections are tilting towards big Republican wins, according to Sean Trende, senior elections analyst for RealClearPolitics.

"The president's job approval … needs to be about 50 percent. He hasn't been that high in going on a year now. So it's not clear what he can do to turn that around, which means that the playing field is tilted very heavily towards Republicans," Trende told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"It's going to be really hard for those senators running for re-election trying to distance themselves from the president after all of them had voted for the Democratic agenda in 2009 and 2010."

The big issue will remain the Affordable Care Act's disastrous rollout, Trende believes.

"We've been told all along that the thing is going to be popular, it's just around the corner," he said.

"I mean ever since 2010, Democrats have said this is going to get more popular; it's just gotten more and more unpopular.

"So you can believe that it's going to get more popular if you want to but it's just that, it's a belief, there's really no foundation for it."
