Kari Lake is already making excuses for her likely Senate loss

Kari Lake likely is going to blow the Senate race in Arizona for the GOP, and she is already making excuses for it.

On Sunday, Lake laid out her theory that Arizona Democrats were trying to register people to vote when they sign up for Medicare and Medicaid so that they had names on the voter rolls for illegal immigrants to use to illegally cast votes. Lake also said she “wouldn’t be all that confident” that the elections in November would be fair, at least “if it were today.” You have to give yourself enough wiggle room to claim victory if you actually win, after all.

That looks unlikely, though, this far out. Lake, who lost the 2022 race for governor as other Arizona Republicans won statewide, is consistently trailing Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) in polls. This is despite the fact that former President Donald Trump is consistently leading President Joe Biden in Arizona. Lake has somehow managed to craft a more toxic image in her state than Trump, and she is running against a Democrat who isn’t as universally loathed as Biden is with his terrible track record.

She has no one but herself to blame. Shortly before the 2022 elections, Lake told Arizona voters who supported former Sen. John McCain to “get the hell out” of her campaign event. Those voters returned the favor on Election Day, backing other generic Republicans while leaving Lake out to dry. She then ran around the state claiming that the election was stolen from her, ruining her reputation even further. Her 2024 run has been defined by trying to shake the very image she created for herself, with her best strategy appearing to be to flip-flop on abortion until she magically wins over swing voters.

Thank goodness for such a serious and well-qualified SoS as Blinken. Our future is secure. The only way it could be better would be if Biden nominated Beto O'Rourke to the post.

Blinken plays guitar in a bar in Kyiv while Russian troops advance in northeast Ukraine.

Arizona is a blue state now.
Ms. Lake's chances?
Well, they're probably not that great -- even 50/50 would be good.

There are a lot more GOP than Dems here. It's the constant cheating by Democrats that make it appear to be a "blue state."

I think you're right. My wife knows someone who just votes Democrat because she's like "I'm a democrat". Basically superficially follows politics. Might be one reason party registration is important.

Mrs. Lando says it represents Queen Elizabeth. I dunno.

That was my first thought as well...
