L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti Urges Residents to Report Stay-at-Home Violators: ‘Snitches Get Rewards’

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti (D) is encouraging residents to report businesses that violate the city’s stay-at-home order aimed at combating the spread of the Chinese coronavirus.
“If any non-essential businesses continue to operate in violation of the stay at home order, we’re going to act to enforce the safer at home order and ensure their compliance,†Garcetti said at a Tuesday press briefing.
The mayor stated that 540 businesses have been visited after breaking the order. So far, 144 businesses had Los Angeles Police Department officers visit them to ask that they uphold the rules. He noted that four business were referred to the city’s attorney’s office and face misdemeanor filings.
“You know the old expression about snitches — well, in this case, snitches get rewards,†he said. “We want to thank you for turning folks in and making sure we are all safe.â€
Garcetti’s remarks come as he faces growing skepticism over his decision to move some of the city’s growing homeless population to suburban recreation centers.

12:48 PM EDTBERLIN — Law-abiding Germans are zealously helping police crack down on people flouting new social distancing rules aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus by reporting on strangers, neighbors and friends.
In a country where denunciation was commonplace under the Communists in East Germany and Hitler’s Nazis, police forces across the country are getting tip-offs on anything from “corona parties†to people driving to weekend cottages. ...
Rafael Behr, professor of criminology and sociology at the Hamburg Police Academy cited the phenomenon of locals in the eastern state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern denouncing Berliners driving to weekend homes by looking at their number plates.
“This willingness to report others is poisoning civilized behavior somewhat,†Behr told Reuters.
“Some people lack the civil courage to confront others but tip off the police anonymously,†said Behr, adding people who had lived under the cloud of East Germany’s loathed Stasi secret police might be remembering how things worked three decades ago. ...

Garcetti, like most Democrat wannabe totalitarian dictators, loves the old Hitler/E. Germany/USSR way of doing things.
Reminds me of the Death Squads in Berlin in the last days of the war who would go around hanging anyone not fighting against the Soviets.

Can someone please report Garcetti every time he sets foot outside of his house. His business certainly is non-essential.

An excellent film only a few years ago, about Communist Cold War EastGermany, titled "The Lives of Others."
It is subtitled in English. It depicts life in a USSR satellite Paradise where children and neighbors rat on others.
