Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to announce candidacy for president Wednesday on Twitter: sources
Ron DeSantis instantly becomes top-tier contender in 2024 GOP nomination race alongside former President Donald Trump
By Paul Steinhauser , Andrew Murray | Fox News
After months of buildup and speculation, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida is officially entering the 2024 White House.
Sources familiar confirmed to Fox News that the popular, conservative two-term governor will declare that he's candidate for president, on Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET during a conversation with Elon Musk on Twitter.
Along with his announcement, DeSantis is expected to file paperwork with the Federal Election Commission, which officially launches his GOP presidential campaign.
Even though he's been on the 2024 sidelines, DeSantis for months has been in the top tier of Republican nomination contenders, behind former President Donald Trump and ahead of the rest of the field of actual and likely candidates in nearly every GOP primary poll.
The announcement by DeSantis coincides with his meeting this week in Miami with top financial backers.

BREAKING: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will announce he is running for president during a Twitter Spaces discussion with Elon Musk on Wednesday night, sources familiar with the plans tell @NBCNews
The announcement will coincide with a retreat for high-end fundraisers pledged to support DeSantis in Miami.
He plans to begin visiting several early states after Memorial Day.

Well, FL is going to lose a really good conservative governor, but he's going to make an excellent president. :patriot:

Very true. I hope that Floridians get lucky twice with his replacement, should that become necessary.

Yes...I would rather he stay as Gov to keep Fla red....

He’s term limited either way. The Lt. Gov. seems capable.

Announce already.

You put your right foot in
You take your right foot out
You put your right foot in

You do the hokey pokey

Announce already.
We know you're running because you already have a SuperPAC running ads.
There are very bright lines under federal law for when you have to declare, and the existence of an independent superpac supporting your candidacy isn't one of them.
Remember when Trump was doing all those rallies before he declared, and was saying things like "I'm not officially running yet, but I'm going to be making an announcement at the appropriate time and I think you are going to be very happy with it?" It was even more obvious that he was running than DeSantis, and yet his supporters had no issue at all with him playing that game. It's only when someone else did the same thing Trump had done that they decided it was a big deal.

Trump aides mock DeSantis for ‘out of touch’ campaign launch plans
BY BRETT SAMUELS - 05/23/23 4:13 PM ET
Allies of former President Trump ridiculed Ron DeSantis on the eve of his 2024 presidential campaign launch, bashing the Florida governor for making his expected announcement on Twitter and mocking his campaign rollout.
“This is one of the most out-of-touch campaign launches in modern history. The only thing less relatable than a niche campaign launch on Twitter, is DeSantis’ after party at the uber elite Four Seasons resort in Miami,” Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for the Trump-aligned Make America Great Again Inc., said in a statement.
“Everyday more and more Americans are realizing just how out of step Ron DeSantis is with their values and how unelectable he really is,” Leavitt added.
Trump campaign aides also piled on after it was widely reported that DeSantis planned to formally enter the 2024 race during a Wednesday night conversation on Twitter Spaces with the company’s CEO, Elon Musk.

Okey dokey. Four Seasons vs Mar A Lago. DeSantis uses Twitter vs Trump using it extensively. Too bad DeSantis couldn't find a golden escalator to ride down to show how in touch he was. wink777
imho, Trump gave DeSantis name recognition with his incessant pounding. In my heart of hearts, I'm not sure DeSantis even intended to run initially. But what else could he do after the ridiculous negative criticism?

I'll be anticipating RDS saying Mehico only sends US their worst and I hire only the BEST!

Yeah, anyone comparing self-made middle-class kid DeSantis to spoiled rich kid Trump, and trying to paint DeSantis as the elitist, needs to get back on their meds.

I agree. If he didn't run, It would have looked to some like Trump bullied him out of it. So Trump ended up getting the exact thing he wanted to prevent.

Only problem is I think most of us know that this is going to be another Trump circus show just like in '16. I'm afraid it's going to hand the DEMS the WH.
The only silver lining to that will be that DeSantis will still be our governor and Trump won't run again.

I'm sure DeSantis has studied every minute of Trump's 16 Campaign against Cruz and is fully aware what a slimeball he can be and at what point to expect it. He is a Harvard/Yale Lawyer, after all.
Cruz and many others will jump into the RDS Car (not Train) upon his announcement, IMHO.

I don't know, but I do know that *I* said he was sucking up to them like a homo junkie needing a fix.
He has already established that there is NOTHING he won't do and and no back he won't stab in order to try to become President.
-
Who's back did DeSantis stab? I believe earlier, you tried to tell us that DeSantis stabbed Trump in the back because he was supposed to be Trump's running mate (even though they are both from Florida). You then went on to tell us how worthless DeSantis was which made us question why Trump would want him in as a running mate in the first place. Sorry, it is so hard to keep up with the fallacious gymnastics that we are exposed to on a daily basis by those who make it up as they go with zero regard for veracity or reason.

@Hoodat
Is there ANY lie you won't tell to establish your spot as a DeSantis Fan Boi? What I wrote was that he stabbed Trump in the back because Trump spent time and money helping him get re-elected,and then he turns around and runs against Trump.
Maybe that sort of betrayal is just peachy-keen amongst your circle of friends, but not mine.
BTW,PLEASE note that I just pointed out a lie by you.
-
What has DeSantis been fighting compared with Trump, and just what has DeSantis sacrificed?
Wow. What has Trump actually fought other than lawsuits/criminal charges? He's a lot of talk, and that's it. Rather than fighting against the federal bureaucracy when it came to Covid, he punted, and the excuse given is "well, they would have been really mean to him if he had fired Fauci, so he had to go along with those recommendations." No, he didn't.
His selling point is supposedly his willingness to take on the "deep state", but when push came to shove, he folded like a cheap suit precisely because he was unwilling to take on the deep state.
And what has he "sacrificed"??? Good grief, there is absolutely nothing the guy loves more than being the center of attention. He absolutely loves running for office because he has millions of supporters who, as he said, would keep supporting him even if he shot someone. He loves being President because he loves the adulation, and whatever financial cost he's had to pay is meaningless because he already has far more than most people, and more than he'd ever spend.
Running for office and winning is the greatest thing that has ever happened to him. He hasn't "sacrificed" squat.
DeSantis fought successfully against the Trump-led federal governments efforts to force masking, social distancing, and school closings. He fought successfully against CRT in schools, he's fought against the cult of transgenderism, he fought - successfully again - against Democrats in Florida, actually expanding both his own level of support and the support for Republicans in the legislature. He's fought to have district attorneys prosecute actual crimes, and when he had one who didn't, he gave him the boot.
If you want more details, ask some Floridians. I know that as a conservative American, Trump failed me in his first term, and I'm not about to give him a second.

Announcing he is COMPETING with Trump for the top spot isn't stabbing him in the back after the "name recognition boost" that Trump gave him by announcing he would pick him for VP?

Choices certainly are great. It's good to have several GOP contenders. Now we can look at each one's record and policy positions, and make up our own minds as to which one will preserve this republic. It would be ridiculous to have only one candidate.

And some of y'all wonder why I love these mountains...

As a child I always was dressed in a nice dress on Sundays for church and then over to Grandma and Grandpas. As I grew older and even after I married, we got dressed up on Sundays for church and dressed the kids up to. I always dressed nicely for work as well; dress pants and blouses or suits.
Then we retired; no more work clothes. Shorts and t-shirts. I have dresses hanging in the closet and that's where they've been hanging. I should probably retire them to Goodwill.

I ain't owned a suit that I bought for myself in my life... Rented a few.
I have cowboy clothes (jeans, saddled shirts with pearly snaps, sh*tkickers, optional vest, and hat)
I have mountain clothes (jeans, tin pants, flannel, buckskins, woolies, moccasins, vibram soled boots, and toques and hats)
I have shop and construction clothes (jeans, pinstriped utility shirts, lace-up boots with oil resistant soles)
But mostly, jeans or sweats, t-shirt, ballcap, light weight hikers (loose-laced so I can slip em on easy). Stuff over that in winter... That's my everyday, including church - I won't go to a church that demands me to put on airs. That ain't what church is for...
But that's me. No suits... just what works.

@sneakypete
Roughly, making a pair of pants into oil cloth. I use Carhartt insulated overalls for this, so you have to be careful painting the oil on so that you don't mess with the insulation layer.
But basically, linseed and beeswax, mixed and thinned over heat, paint it on the pants, do a second coat, then scrape em down with a bondo paddle and a heat gun...
Sounds simple, but it takes a knack. happy77
Extremely durable, wind, water, and abrasion proof. Great outer layer over wool... And they really suck to break in, even starting with your wore out old Carhartts... But they last forever.
They may not be comfortable, but at least they smell bad.
-

Precisely.
With the unforced errors and going on 8 years of negative press and criminal behaviour from every angle to get at just one man, I'm willing to consider an unknown who will move forward on eliminating the known operatives from their abused positions in perpetuity, upon trial and conviction in a venue away from the coasts, and the Democrat enclaves where Trump Hate is preached from the pulpit.
Is that fair? Was 2020 fair? It might not seem that way, but I guess it is a matter of focus on the issues and removing corruption--something that may not be possible short of martial conflict.
We must remember, that is no one person's "turn", no matter the events of the past, no matter how unfair they were, and stay focused on what will be best for the future of this Republic. To everything there is a season.
