Prayers for Easyace... Hope you are ok buddy !He's doing all right. He left a note in the Members Lounge--just taking some time off from the board to take care of some other personal projects. So I'm stepping in as sports/entertainment moderator for a while.

I'm pissed!
They can cancel/postpone an NFL/NBA or college game due to 'Covid' just a few days prior to the date, but they refuse to move the starting time of freaking OPENING DAY when the forecast is "below freezing temperatures" and 40mph winds.
IMHO, they place the players in a very dangerous situation.
For example, the 'Aces' of BOTH teams are on the mound. If I was Max Scherzer, I'd tell them to stick it up their collective asses.
And what about an All-Star outfielder who throws his arm out in attempts to keep the guy from taking another base?
And on top of that, it's an "Off-Day" tomorrow.
Interesting that opening day and late in the year, around the World Series, that you have these issues, especially the farther north you go.
Is there rain or snow in the forecast?
Maybe they will cancel it.
The old Candlestick Park had major wind issues, regardless of the time of year.
Nationals-Mets Opening Day Game Postponed Due to Covid Issues
According to ESPN:
Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo had said Wednesday that his club would be down five players and a staff member for Opening Day after a player tested positive for COVID-19.
There are concerns about at least one more positive COVID-19 test with the Nationals following the positive Wednesday, sources tell ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
The next game scheduled between the two teams is for Saturday at 4:05 p.m. ET.

@Polly Ticks
Saw the debacle around home plater in the 9th inning of the PHILLIES/BRAVES game last night.
Absolutely no excuse for not getting that call right.
They have cameras every damned place ...even planted inside the bases, but apparently none fixed directly above home plate??
BTW... he was "OUT"!
ASTROS!
11 straight wins!
4 of them against the Chicago White Sox.
The other 7 games, not against teams as good as the White Sox, LOL.
Former Astros Manager A.J. Hinch returns to Houston today as the Manager of the Detriot Tigers.
It ought to be be interesting.
I think he will get a warm reception.
Fans loved the guy.
@GrouchoTex
I'd still demand that after every HR the ASTROS hit, that the batter strip down to his underwear immediately after he touches home plate.
Anyone notice that his teammates no longer tear Altuve's jersey off after a walk-off? :laugh:
As a former baseball fan, I pretty much didn't intend to post on these threads anyway. But for Hinch to have any role of any kind after allowing all that cheating back in '17? Baseball is nothing but worthless garbage as far as I am concerned. The game can circle the drain as far as I am concerned.
Okay I know this is really about USA baseball, but I caught a report about a little rhubarb that happened in Mexican League baseball yesterday, Muy emocionante! https://nypost.com/2021/06/24/video-mexican-league-player-sets-off-brawl-with-bat-attack/
Action you just don't see in American baseball............thankfully.
@GtHawk@DCPatriot
Actually, I'm surprised that it hasn't already happened in the MLB.
The other day the Orioles...the shittiest team in The Show...hit THREE Home Runs back-to back. Of course, the next guy was plunked high on his shoulder. The batter stepped toward the mound a bit, but the ump intervened and immediately threw the pitcher out of the game.
Dallas Keuchel was in Houston last week, playing for the White Sox.
His first time back since he left the team.
Did you hear what he had to say about 2017?
Read the Chronicle article, and agree. The Bosox and Yankees have been nailed twice for cheating in the past 5 years. And honestly, from what I was seeing and hearing, you could probably count the teams on one hand who were not "bending" the rules.
Still, the Astros got its hand in the cookie jar big time, and are paying the price. As far as baseball, I am through with it. In fact, I have no idea how the Astros are doing, or even who is in their starting rotation.

Two Astros skipping All-Star Game after cheating scandal
A pair of Astros are backing out of the first MLB All-Star Game since Houston’s infamous sign-stealing scandal.
Shortstop Carlos Correa and second baseman Jose Altuve each announced Thursday their intentions to skip this year’s festivities. Correa, who is hitting .288 with 16 home runs, stated a desire to be home with his pregnant wife during the four-day break.
“Baseball is really important to me, but family will always come first,” Correa said. “I’m grateful for everybody that voted for me to be in the All-Star Game. Baseball means the world to me, but I want to be with my family this time, especially with my wife, spending time with her. It’s our first child, so I need that time.”

Scary good! The man's an animal.
The only reason most people are going to watch the All-Star Game is Ohtani.
Wow...Weeeee!. Amazing you sure didn't want to bring up Scherzer's baseball doctoring habits.... Imagine that.
:silly: :silly: :silly:
SOB had an eight run lead in the 4th inning. Gave up seven. Hit 2 batters and forced in a run with a BB.
Then...THEN...THEN he gives up a grand slam to a pinch-hitting pitcher who just got off the bus.
What Vasoline? :shrug:
Needs to cheat better. :silly:
OTOH he is 7-4 with a 2.66 era. (Cherry picking one start not allowed)

I feel sorry for any 'Stros fans who left the ballpark early today. Stunning finish in the bottom of the 9th.
THAT WAS GREAT!!!
It is the New York Post.
Not surprised they have that take there.
Have you noticed the Astros on the base paths or when other teams players are on the bases?
They are cutting up, and laughing.
They aren't afraid of the other players.
The other players know what's up.
The Astros took the hit, but they weren't alone.
Nobody is willing to talk, because of the way the Astros have been treated by fans and media around the country, but wait until some of these guys start to retire.

How 'bout those Orioles! Sweeping the series, topping things off with a dramatic walk-off. Love, love, love it!

Ha ha, they are about to pass the Rangers.
Fellow Astros fans....
Sad to report J.R died yesterday at age 71. Sad... an icon of my childhood baseball being has passed.

@MikePence
I'm not that familiar with NL players, but he's looking pretty formidable. Don't get mad, but I'm rooting for the Braves. My BFF lives in Woodstock, GA, and would love to see her home team in the WS. Atlanta could use a pick-me-up after the way the MLB treated them earlier this year. In a perfect world, the WS would end up being a contest between my 'Stros and the Braves, with the 'Stros ultimately prevailing in a 7-game battle.

Y'all, they're going to screw up the baseball season. I have that "waiting for the other shoe to drop" feeling that we're going to get mask mandates slapped on us and the 2021 season will be cut short or that people won't be allowed to attend the games. Those filthy authoritarians are itching to reign in the liberty of the American people.
@MikePence
Actually, you're right. I am a good person (she said, humbly). wink777
Awesome!
@Polly Ticks
Probably so ... until which time we may have to butt heads should our beloved teams go head to head. :yowsa:
BTW, will you start wearing your cute Braves cap again when October baseball rolls around? Go Braves!

Astros fans, am I the only one disappointed with Graveman? Surely we needed some depth in our bullpen, but I expected more from him. I'm not happy with that trade.
I think he will be okay.
All players hit rough patches.
Seeing my Phillies shutout by the orioles is embarrassing its, frustrating we lost so much ground that teams like 48-102, our lineup should have, buried them.
I appreciate your sacrifice. :laugh:
My Astros have struggled a little the past 3 games, but they're ahead in the mid-7th. If Mariners lose and Astros win ... PARTAY!!!
Five in a row! Bring on the Braves!

BTW, they're playing in Oakland. What a miserable experience to watch games at that ballpark. Those idiot fans banging their drums make you want to smack the living snot out of them.
Who really wants to face the Cardinals in a one-game playoff?
Joe West is retiring after this season.
They are just jealous guys won the world series! You guys are a great team! Oakland is a good team, too! But if their fans are bothering, you tell them that Giambi Canseco, Tejada, and Mcgwire juiced their al west Division champion banners, and the world series championship from 89 is not legitimate!
You went back in 2019! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTnWT3SbMC4 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTnWT3SbMC4)
You fell one win short of the 2018 fall classic and went back in 2019! So it is not the drums. It was a pure talent I pulled so hard for the Astros because nats fans are just the worst!
@MikePence
I enjoyed that look back at 2019. Thanks! That was the most fun baseball year for me.
I didn't start watching baseball until the 2017 World Series and that was only because the Astros were in it. NFL had run me off with their unpatriotic displays, and I had no plans to get involved with another sport. After I watched the 2017 World Series, I thought it was over. But, to my surprise, I started checking on when baseball started up again in early 2018 and thought I might catch a game or two. Somewhere along the way, I got addicted. In 2019 I even had perfect attendance for all the Astros games, albeit on my couch. Even though we didn't win the title, it was such an exciting season. We had both Verlander and Cole that year, so I got spoiled. I even got to see Verlander's 3rd no-hitter, a game I would LOVE to watch again.
Joe West is retiring after this season.

God, please, let my Phillies win the next two against the braves! I don't want this season is to be over! This team brought back good memories of the 2007 team, and please let Bryce harper win the NL MVP!
Heavenly Father, please, don't listen to @MikePence !! Son #5 and I drove from Louisville to Atlanta to watch the next couple of games in person and we really would like to see some Braves wins!! (You can throw him a bone with the MVVP thing, though, if You think it's best. That seems like a good compromise to me.)
wink777
Oh my gosh, thank you! That's high praise when a braves fan says, let Bryce harper be the MVP! I wish the braves lots of luck in the playoffs!
I became A Phillies fan in the early 2000s! We sucked, but 2007-11 was enjoyable! Not a problem! Cole and Justin were lights out gunning for that CY young award! It sure looked fun! And because you are not a nationals fan! Here you go, relive that awesome game!

Congrats to the Braves! Go Braves!
Don't get me wrong. Love that Max Scherzer and Trea Turner, acquired from the NATS to the DODGERS are going back to the ALCS and maybe the World Series.
But for an elimination game, they should have cameras over the plate to verify if that was really a checked swing or not.

No kidding. That was definitely not a swing.

Didn't you hear? Cowboy Joe is retiring. Too bad he can't take Angel and a few others we could name with him.
Want an even better idea? MLB should decertify their Union, wipe the slate clean, and base employment on performance, consistency, and accuracy.
Would love to see the likes of Joe West and Angel Hernandez holding a sign and a cup under an overpass. :cool:

@DCPatriot
Yeah, I miss Markakis, too. Loved that guy.
Scherzer was saying in his post-game press conference last night that his arm was dead and he told them they'd need to take him out ... kind of shocking for him to admit that, really.
What ever happened to EasyAce, does anyone know? I always enjoyed his post-game write-ups.
TWO Grand Slams in 2 innings this afternoon by the Red Sox, who are up 9-1 right now.
This can't be considered 'good' for TV ratings.
The Lord may punish me, but I'm pulling for the ASTROS to play the DODGERS in the World Series.
@Polly Ticks
After last night's game...there IS something endearing about the BRAVES.
Wish that Nick Matrakis was able to be part of it.
Edit to add: IMO, the Dodgers have just lost Max Scherzer for the future. He's gone.
One does not take Max out after only 4.2 innings on THAT 'stage'. He gives up a 2 run bomb which only tied the score.
Edit 2 to add: I miss the hell out of @EasyAce !!
Dead arm?
Didn't Scherzer pitch for Dusty Baker a few years ago? That'd make sense.
You guys remember back in early June with Tyler Zombro of the Durham Bulls was hit in the head with a 104mph line drive? I hadn't heard anything about him lately so did a quick Google search and it looks like he's doing really well.He decided to take some time away from the board. But it appears he is once again writing!
https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/32084290/durham-bulls-pitcher-tyler-zombro-remarkable-recovery-being-hit-line-drive
Also, does anyone know where @EasyAce went? I miss his write-ups for these playoff games. Does anyone know if they are available elsewhere?
He decided to take some time away from the board. But it appears he is once again writing!

Okay...OKAY...(I'm up! I'm up! FIVE MORE MINUTES! Break me off a piece of that Kit Kat bar)
Wanted to see Max Scherzer and Trea Turner win a World Series ring this year...going to a 106 WIN Dodger team. I must have been on drugs ( @corbe ) :laugh:
The Atlanta Braves have shown me once again that ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN IN SHORT SERIES of games. Gotta love them... like I used to root for the Brooklyn Dodgers against the perennial Yankee appearances. From 8-10 year old eyes...didn't seem fair. Always went for the "underdog". :laugh:
in the meantime, let's face it, the ASTROS/REDSOX series is must-see TV!! I'd be okay with either team.
Can't disagree at all about the ALCS. Wow! I think I'm pulling for Houston, though, just because it looks like we may actually make it to the World Series this year and Houston is going to be a LOT warmer than Boston!
Go BRAVES!!

Atlanta and Houston in the World Series? They'll have to keep COB office and Fox Sports executives away from any multi-story buildings.
The word is that the Astros were tipping their pitches in the first 3 games.
It looks like the Astros fixed that.
Framber Valdez went 8 innings last night, and was perfect through the first 4 of them.
The best pitching performance of the entire post season, thus far.
While the Red Sox certainly did thump the Astros in Games 2 and 3, the Astros still managed to score, 5,5,3,9, and 9, in these 5 games.
30 runs
It's not like they were entirely shutdown.
Red Sox scored 4,9,12,2, and1, for a total of 28 runs in 5 games.
Not that it matters who scores the most total in the series, but I think it is interesting.
In games 2 and 3, the Red Sox put 9 each game on the Astros in the first 2 innings!
That made it feel like the Astros were doomed.
Friday night, back at Minute Maid, and it is going to be a lot of fun to watch.
@GrouchoTex

@Polly Ticks
That's the absolute truth. It always passed me off that the Braves were put in the NL West back in '69. It wasn't fair that nearly 30% of their season was spent over 2,500 miles from home.
Could be worse, they could be the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim now that's a slap in the face, right nobody in the US knows Anaheim the freakin home of Disneyland!
It’s true. I know so many people here who won’t follow the Dodgers for love or money, and still refer them as the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Though I suppose that won’t be the case after another 20 years or so.
How wonderfully fitting...Atlanta gives an appropriate middle finger to MLB's Commissioner Bob Manfred, while they host the World Series vs. the Houston Astros...the most exciting team in The Show.

@DCPatriotYes, many good reasons. Not least of all, it was LA. Congrats to ATL.
There were so many good reasons to root for the Braves, but the "up yours" message it sends to Manfred and whatever other powers-that-be was the sweetest!
@Polly Ticks
Congrats to you and the Braves, the city of Atlanta, all the surrounding cities and the state of Georgia. There was a nice little celebration in the AllThatJazzZ household last night the moment that last out was completed. Not gonna lie. Braves are a little scary! They seem to have momentum right now.
I'm going with 'Stros in 6. Go Astros! For the H!

Have an honest question for you. Is the "Tomahawk Chop" chant now piped in through the sound system?
...because I never see the fans doing "The Chop" while it's being 'chanted'. :laugh:
Thanks, @DCPatriot !
:beer:
@DCPatriot
During a pitching change for the opposing team during a late inning, they also turn the lights down and the fans turn on their cell phone lights for the Chop.
1st swing of the 2021 World Series...GONE!!!
1-0 Braves!! :laugh:
Loved it
@Polly Ticks
Question: Are you wearing your pearls?
Congratulations, Braves fans. Nicely done. I'm sorry about Charlie Morton. Yes, he's scary, but I never wanted to see him leave the game with an injury. See y'all tomorrow night. wink777
Twitter map shows only 3 states are rooting for Astros in World Series
An overwhelming number of Americans are rooting for the Atlanta Braves to beat the Houston Astros in the 2021 World Series, according to new Twitter data.
Fans favor the Astros in just three states - Texas, Louisiana, and Delaware - in a map created by Betonline.ag that’s based on over 230,000 geotagged tweets sent out since the World Series matchup was officially set.

Morton may be toast. I think he has a fracture in his tibia or fibula. Someone else is going to have to step it up a notch and pitch Game 4.

Ouch.
The Braves are probably screwed if the series goes back to Houston. Their pen will be exhausted.
I'm pulling for the Astros!
Question:
Which one was broken...push-off? Or landing?
Push-off fibula
I'm pulling for the Astros! :0001: I'm a bitter Phillies fan!

Astros in six!
@AllThatJazzZ You betcha -- every game day in the post season! (Side note - every night when I clean them before I put them away, I wonder if Joc is taking good care of his.)
Go Braves! I'm thrilled to win Game 1, but heartsick over Charlie Morton.
Braves have to get a heroic performance from the bullpen and steal one of the next two games.
Did you boo Mike Schmidt back in the day?
@MikePence
You're a brave man, Charlie Brown. It's no cakewalk being an Astros fan. It'll make you tougher because people gonna be hatin' on you. :yowsa:
I'm with you -- Astros in 6 (because I want to win at home).
For the record, there are 2 individuals I wish the Astros never brought on board: Alex Cora and Carlos Beltran (especially the latter). It's important whom you listen to. There are always those who will pull you down to their level.
If Trump attends tonight's game, I'm hoping for a big "Let's Go, Brandon" (or the corollary, FJB) cheer.

Breaking (literally): Joc Pederson’s necklace snapped last night. His jeweler is flying to Atlanta today with a replacement.
What is the story behind the pearls?
Pederson has been evasive as to the inspiration behind his new fashion statement. On various occasions he has said, “I just saw the pearls and I was, like, you know what? That looks cool;” that there is no story, he’s just “a bad bitch;” and, “It’s a mystery for everyone. They’ll never know.”
https://www.si.com/mlb/2021/10/23/joc-pederson-pearls
Well I love the pearls..it is my birthstone for June...so I always wear them.
@mystery-ak
Love the gimmick. I wonder if they take turns wearing them after they hit a HR?
LOL! Watching the pre-Game panel of A-Rod, Big Papi, etc., paying tribute to Hank Aaron.
I'm so old, I can 'see' Hank Aaron running like a deer wearing a baggy Milwaukee Braves uniform playing behind Warren Spahn and Lew Burdette.
Watching too...Mike just told me A-Rod was married to Jennifer Lopez... :facepalm:
@mystery-ak
LOL! I thought that marriage was history already. You're going to make me look it up.
Even saw recently a meme where he was in an open bathrobe, dead drunk and despondent, clutching a framed pic of Jennifer. happy77
They never married and broke up..she is back with Ben Afleck...
@mystery-ak
ROFL!!! Well, he sure looks healthy & happy (A-Rod) tonight!
Hoping for a Braves' win tonight so the ASTROS would have to run the table. :beer:

No offense but rooting for one team over another isn't the smartest thing to do for a politician running nationally.

BRAVES LEAD SERIES 3 - 2*Back to Houston, y'all!
*Martín Maldonado - Tonight's MVP
@Polly Ticks
Well, we're still up three games to two. But then again, this is the Braves we are talking about.
The fact that a corporately owned team made it this far is a miracle upon itself. Ted Turner had a huge ego and was willing to take a financial loss for a team win. But there is no way in hell they would be in this position if Time Warner was calling the shots.
Oh my goodness, what a wild game! Maldonado was totally the MVP, and came up huge right when they needed him. I will never understand people who say baseball is boring.
I've been saying for years that all I wanted for my birthday was a Braves World Series, and although last night's game didn't end the way I was hoping I still have birthday cake left and as long as there is cake left, it still counts as part of the birthday celebration. There's still hope yet!!
A decision of understandable logic quickly backfired and turned a World Series game on its head. In the fifth inning with a 5-4 Atlanta lead, Braves manager Brian Snitker instructed reliever A.J. Minter to intentionally walk Alex Bregman, bringing up Martín Maldonado with the bases loaded and two outs.
Glancing at Maldonado’s batting stats this postseason, it probably seemed like a safe move. But those inside the Astros dugout knew that this was Maldy, a man revered by his teammates and coaches for his attention to detail, a Gold Glove catcher who spends evenings on the road in his hotel room scouring film.
Minter had faced the Astros in Games 1 and 3 of the World Series. Maldonado knew his repertoire. He had no intention of swinging before two strikes.
“No, not at all,” Maldonado later admitted with a smile. “I know he likes that cutter inside. I got on the plate to take that pitch out.”
Maldonado crowded the plate like a Little Leaguer, daring Minter. The pitcher’s first two offerings were cutters on opposite sides of the plate, both balls. Maldonado watched a fastball sail by for strike one. Minter tried another cutter, this one over the middle and below the zone. Maldonado did not budge. On the next pitch he pushed his bat forward almost like he was going to bunt, but the fastball flew inside for ball four.
Maldonado dropped his bat and started down the line. Carlos Correa trotted home from third base as the game-tying run, the final time the score would be knotted in the Astros’ eventual 9-5 Game 5 victory.
“Did you guys notice how close he was to the plate on the at-bat against Minter?” Correa said, barely able to contain his delight. “You guys notice? That was sick.”
There's no team I would rather have lost to than Atlanta. I watched them defeat the Dodgers, and they did it with great heart. And then there's the yanked All-Star Game thing. :yowsa:
Seeing them war path chanting 7 runs up at MMP at the end did make respect the ATL fans a tad less though.
BTW did I hear some Lets Go Brandon mixed in tonight?
@catfish1957
It doesn't bother me. They're excited and happy for their team. I get it. I will say this, though. IF I HAVE TO HEAR THAT CHANT ONE MORE TIME, I'M GOING TO HURL! I liked it the first 136 times I heard it (in the playoffs), but from that 137th time on, it became pukeworthy. OVERKILL, Y'ALL!
I didn't get to hear the Brandon thing. I was multitasking, trying to keep up with the elections while watching the game, texting, and reading/posting on the live thread here. I'm sleeping in tomorrow. Brain's fried. Heart's broke. I'm a teetotaler, so I can't dull my pain. On the plus side, I do have a little dog who's company is comforting.

Congrats...
Atlanta's pitching last night was stellar.
And Max Fried did it all after a very large man stomped on his leg.
(https://thumbs.gfycat.com/GenerousChillyKiskadee-max-1mb.gif)
@Polly Ticks
I'm not sure I'd call Michael Brantley a very large man, but that was truly a scary moment. I'm so thankful he wasn't injured, even though he ended up having his way with us. I never want to win at the expense of someone's well being.
Again, congrats and enjoy your celebrations!
6'2" and 210 lbs on a full run ... close enough! Yeah, definitely terrifying. I was having flashbacks to Tim Hudson's (regular season) injury a few years ago.
I'm with you, I just HATE seeing any of them getting injured, my team or any other.
Atlanta's pitching last night was stellar.
Did anybody catch the fans booing Rob Manfred at the trophy presentation? :silly: You know that was the last place he wanted to be.Manfred must be quickly approaching Gary Bettman as most hated commissioner in the major sports. Even ahead of Roger Goodell.
Manfred must be quickly approaching Gary Bettman as most hated commissioner in the major sports. Even ahead of Roger Goodell.
Bud Selig had the popularity of a fecal sandwich when he was at the helm. Not only a d-bag, but a crook.
Too bad Freddie Freeman is skipping town right after the celebration. He could have spent his entire HOF career with one team, like Chipper Jones, and been well-compensated (albeit not at the astronomical price he is demanding). His salary is liable to become an albatross wherever he goes, and the fans will not be forgiving.
Congrats Bryce Harper! God bless you! I hope and pray this bolds well for the NL MVP voting! I'm happy the Cubs, Dodgers, Yankees, and Mets held their wallets and passed on him three years ago. He has been just a joy to watch. He is the type of guy who you tell your grandkids. At Cooperstown decades from now, I watched him play!

And congrats ,Shohei Otani! He deserves to win as well the Al MVP! I bought the MLB tv subscription to watch this man hit and one week. He was hitting homers all week. He put up monster numbers without much support. All he had was Jared Walsh.
Respectfully disagree.
He's at, a level as a HOF player and an age where 1 years contracts are in his favor.
Any half dozen or so teams who "...missed it by 'that' much" would venture into a deal.
That Yankee Stadium short right field porch is beckoning. :laugh:
:2popcorn:
But Freddie is looking for a LOOONG term deal around 35 per. Think Pujols. Just not worth it at 32 years old ... his skills will decline soon. Yank fans in particular would have eaten him alive for the disappearing act he did a couple of years ago, although he did make up for it recently.
That damn Home Run Derby messed up Ohtani for the rest of the season.

Never thought that outlawing free speech in this country would ever be anything more than a dystopian political thriller novel/movie.
Shit, we are seeing it happen before our eyes in real time.
@DCPatriot
Right? Did you see the Jomboy breakdown where he ran three different angles simultaneously?
To borrow from Jackie Chiles, it was outrageous, egregious, and preposterous.
For the record, I do not intend on starting a 2022 baseball thread until we have a definitive answer as to when/if the season will start.
