Hungary's new prime minister says he's enacting the will of the people by doing everything in his power to oust his predecessor's allies.

Parliament on Monday approved a constitutional amendment that will allow the government to fire President Tamas Sulyok, who Prime Minister Péter Magyar calls a "puppet" of former prime minister Viktor Orbán.

It's part of a broader package of reform aimed at dismantling the political system Orbán left behind, and removing his allies from positions of power.  ...

What’s happening in Hungary is the stuff that wars and revolutions begin over. If it occurred in the US, I’d fully expect civil war. They’re literally banning their opposition and the left supports it. Remember that, because they’d do the same here if they could get away with it.

A dark day for Hungary.
Today, Parliament is adopting constitutional amendments that unlawfully remove the sitting President of the Republic and ban sitting opposition MPs from running for re-election. The former Prime Minister had already been banned from running again.
This marks the beginning of a constitutional crisis that could last for years. Ironically, it is being created by the party with the largest parliamentary majority in Hungary’s democratic history.
Why? Because, like their liberal authoritarian allies in Brussels, they may have won the election, but they know they deceived their voters. And they fear that, in a free and fair democratic contest, they would be voted out.
A government that fears the voters will always end up fearing democracy itself.

⚡️ 🇭🇺 Hungary launches probe into former FM Szijjártó over alleged ties to Russia

Prime Minister Péter Magyar said he would not disclose details until the investigation is complete, adding that it involves classified materials related to national security and foreign policy.

This spring, leaked phone calls between former Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov surfaced online. The recordings suggest Szijjártó regularly briefed Moscow on closed-door EU discussions and even offered to pass documents to the Russian side.

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

Yet his immigration policies are tougher than Orban's.
