Several gay groups representing immigrants are planning a massive non-violent civil disobedience protest either in Washington or at border detention centers in a ramped-up bid to force President Obama to immediately stop deportations and grant amnesty to illegals.

The plan is for “having a mass, very big civil disobedience action taking place,” said Luis Aguilera Garcia of GetEQUAL. He said it would happen “either in Washington or at detention centers,” but a date hasn’t been set.

“It is going to escalate,” he told Secrets after several immigration protesters from the LGBT community and representatives from the AFL-CIO and National Education Association held a press conference in front of the White House to demand that Obama not delay his amnesty plan until after the election, as planned.

“We can’t let the momentum go back because when that happens people lose hope,” said Garcia. “I cannot trust Obama anymore. He needs to keep his promises,” he added.

Speakers at the press conference estimated that deportations will reach 70,000 by Election Day if the president doesn’t reverse course and announce his plan. Among them, they said, will be several gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgenders and “queers,” sent back to countries that either frown on LGBT sex or have laws against it.

Many of the speakers, outfitted in red T-shirts with the phrase “Immigration is an LGBTQ issue” printed on them, said being sent home amounts to a “death sentence.”

Darlene Nipper, deputy executive director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, demanded that Obama act on his promises of action.

“We’ve waited far too long,” she said as the gay America flag flew behind her. She said that “President Obama, by not keeping the promise of issuing an executive order now, is missing a real opportunity to prevent some 70,000 lives, deportations from happening, that will take place between now and election day.”

She added: “The solution is real. The president has the power to stop deportations and provide immediate relief to millions.”

When resources are limited, you cannot enforce everything to the letter. The agencies involved, report to the president, through his politically appointed Secretary.

It is like a city police department. The Mayor calls the police chief, and says, "look, let's clamp down on drunk driving, and let the jaywalking slide if we have to in order to free up the cops."

So yes, the President has the ability to arrange priorities. Such has long been the case; e.g.. before Obama.

These protesting groups usually march to his tune. That there is conflict, displeasure seems like a good thing, for November elections.

That's ridiculous

A "mass, very big civil disobedience action"?

Come on.

Where are they going to get that many Carmen Miranda outfits on such short notice?
