Hunter Biden pushes for trial delay and evidence exclusions in California

Hunter Biden will ask a judge at a hearing on Wednesday to delay his tax trial in California, marking the latest request from the first son to push off his legal proceedings as he juggles two criminal cases.

Biden’s scheduled appearance comes on the heels of his attorneys also filing a slate of requests Tuesday evening to restrict special counsel David Weiss from using certain evidence at trial.

Biden’s attorneys requested Judge Mark Scarsi prohibit the government from introducing any references to Biden’s “extravagant” lifestyle, including “any salacious details about money purportedly spent on certain personal expenses, including, but not limited to, reference to sex workers, adult entertainment, a sex club membership, pornography, and strip clubs.”

Biden’s attorneys claimed the information would be unnecessarily prejudicial to a jury and that it was irrelevant to his charges, which include tax evasion, failure to file taxes, and filing false returns. Weiss alleged Biden spent exorbitant amounts of money on frivolous expenses, including strippers and pornography, while neglecting his taxes.

“Unnecessary salacious details — especially relating to collateral alleged sexual conduct — is exactly the type of prejudicial, inflammatory evidence that makes a conviction more likely because it provokes an emotional response in the jury,” Biden’s attorneys wrote.

Democrats Brag About Rolling Mike Johnson in Spending Negotiations, Getting Him to Give Them Secret Earmarks

Sean Moran 22 May 2024

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) reportedly gave almost every Democrat an earmark in exchange for their votes for a $1.2 trillion spending bill that was passed despite the objections of a majority of House Republicans.

As Johnson and House Democrat Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) negotiated two government funding bills, the Democrat leader secured a major victory in exchange for voting for Johnson’s spending bill: a considerable bump in earmarks for Democrats’ home districts.

Democrats argued that they did not receive their fair share of the earmarks, or congressionally directed projects, this congressional term. Jeffries made clear that Democrats would provide the votes to pass the spending bill for an increase in their share of the earmarks, according to Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), the top Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee.

The earmarks were tucked well within the Transportation spending bill; a CNN analysis suggested that the earmarks for Democrats went up $616,279 for almost every Democrat member over what had passed out of committee months prior.

The earmarks in the gargantuan spending bill were for “almost every single Democratic member for at least one project,” CNN wrote.

DeLauro told CNN that Jeffries wanted to keep the victory a secret.

“There was no need. He [Jeffries] negotiated. He got what we needed to have. That’s it. It doesn’t always have to be a press conference when you get things done. That’s his style,” DeLauro said.

“Nobody at the beginning of this Congress could have imagined all this shit that has happened here, right? But [Jeffries] has navigated a pathway for Democrats that has made us relevant and effective,” Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA), the ranking member on the House Rules Committee, said.

“I saw him take the temperature of the caucus, listen a lot to people and ultimately land in a place that not everyone celebrated, but everyone was comfortable with,” Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) remarked.

Bidenomics: Fast Food Costs Soar — McChicken up 199%, Frosty up 111%, Taco Bell Burrito up 132%

Wendell Husebø 22 May 2024

Fast food is no longer healthy for your wallet. Common fast food favorites increased in price under President Joe Biden’s so-called Bidenomics.

Fast food inflation has a disparate impact across racial and ethnic groups due to different levels of fast food consumption. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 42.4 percent of non-Hispanic black adults consume fast food, compared with 37.6 percent of non-Hispanic white adults, 35.5 percent of Hispanic adults, and 30.6 percent of Asian adults.

The higher price tag of popular foods may be creating political problems for Biden. Thirty percent of black men and 11 percent of black women intend to vote for former President Donald Trump, a Wall Street Journal poll found, a dramatic increase from 2020.

Popeyes, Taco Bell, and Chipotle raised prices by at least 75 percent, according to the Food Institute:

Popeyes Regular Mashed Potatoes & Gravy (+134 percent)
    Taco Bell’s Beefy 5-Layer Burrito (+132 percent)
    Wendy’s Small Frosty (+111 percent)
Taco Bell Chalupa Supreme (+110 percent)
Burger King Small Icee (+101 percent)
Taco Bell Cheesy Gordita Crunch (+100 percent)
    McDonalds McChicken (+199%)

Prices in nearly 500 California Chipotle restaurants spiked from six percent to seven percent during just the first week of April, the Journal reported.

Chick-fil-A raised prices by 10.6 percent between mid-February and mid-April, Gordon Haskett Research Advisors estimated, along with Starbucks by 7.8 percent and Shake Shack by 7.7 percent.

Most Americans Say We’re In A Recession—And Blame Biden

John Carney 22 May 2024

Most Americans say the U.S. is currently in an economic recession and the majority blames mismanagement by President Joe Biden.

Released on Wednesday, a Harris poll conducted for the Guardian newspaper indicates that nearly three in five Americans believe the U.S. is currently in an economic recession. A majority of respondents, 58 percent, attribute the perceived economic issues to what they see as mismanagement by the Biden administration.

Fifty-five percent of respondents think the economy is shrinking, and 56 percent believe the U.S. is in a recession, despite government reports that the economy has been growing since the second half of 2022.

The results are not just a reflection of political partisanship. While Republicans are more likely to say we’re in a recession, nearly half of Democrats also say we’re in a recession. The poll found that 67 percent of Republicans say the U.S. is in a recession, as do 49 percent of Democrats and 53 percent of independents.

The poll also highlights significant concern about inflation, with 72 percent of respondents indicating that rising prices are a major worry. And the concerns cross party lines. Eighty percent of Republicans say inflation is rising, as do 74 percent of independents and 60 percent of Democrats.

“What Americans are saying in this data is: ‘Economists may say things are getting better, but we’re not feeling it where I live.’ Unwinding four years of uncertainty takes time. Leaders have to understand this and bring the public along,” John Gerzema, CEO of the Harris Poll, told the Guardian.

Where in the US Constitution does it give the Federal Government power to regulate reproduction - either for abortions or for contraception?

We need to keep Big Government out of the womb and away from our groins.
