Title: Eclipse apps
Post by: Gefn on June 24, 2017, 05:12:25 pm
There seems to be a plethora of Eclipse apps in the iTunes app Store.

Does any know of any good ones to recommend on either platform ( Apple or Android)

Thanks.

Some Android ones were recommended the other night at a astronomical society meeting:

http://www.solareclipsetimer.com/
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.foxwoodastronomy.solareclipsetimer&hl=en

Eclipse 2017
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.strickling.eclipse2017&hl=en

Edit to add:  I see now that they are evidently both available on Apple, too.

The guy recommended Solar Eclipse Timer because it will speak out loud to warn you when to put your solar glasses back on (as totality ends), if you're in the path of totality....so you're not having to look at your phone to know.

But evidently both apps are updating with more features so they both might have it.

That was a real laugh. When I opened this thread I was ready to talk about ...

Eclipse IDE for C/C++ Linux Developers (includes Incubating ...
www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/eclipse-ide-cc-linux-developers.../heliossr2
This package augments the C/C++ package specifically for Linux developers. ... Home · Downloads · Packages; Eclipse IDE for C/C++ Linux Developers ...

I assumed that was the Eclipse App we were talking about. When I opened up and saw that moon, I thinking what the hell is this? It took me a minute to figure it out.

NASA Eyes has some great stuff from exoplanets to Juno and Cassini missions as well as every spacecraft currently being tracked in and out of the solar system.

I loved my Windows phone.  But, Verizon doesn't accommodate them very well and I had to go to an android. :(

My mom has a plain vanilla flip phone. It doesn't text. It doesn't have a camera, it just makes calls. She pays $5.99. a month for 20 calls from AARP.
(Free 911 calls)

Gives her peace of mind if her car should break down

She does not want a. Smart. Phone

I'm figuring out what to switch to myself. Sucks, because both iOS and Android are inferior, IMHO. Total failure of Microsoft to market what was a superior product. Plus the damn carriers sabotaged it at every turn.

Yep.  I'm pretty happy with my Samsung5 whatever, but the Win phone was better.

@Freya

Destin at Smarter Every Day has a couple vids he did with the eclipse chaser guy that wrote one of the eclipse timer apps.

You all will enjoy this video he put on his second channel:

Thanks, @rodamala!  Destin is GREAT!

The app is the one recommended above, Solar Eclipse Timer (http://www.solareclipsetimer.com/).
