Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos has given only a tiny fraction of his $160 billion fortune to philanthropic causes, falling far behind fellow billionaires such as Bill and Melinda Gates and former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, public records show.
Although Bezos, 55, and his estranged wife MacKenzie recently pledged $2 billion to a new charitable initiative, their previous giving amounts to a total of just over $145 million or .0906 percent — far less than one percent — of their net worth. Out of $100,000, that would be like spending $90.06 on charity.

This is probably a good thing, for now. Whenever we hear about some new effort from the Gates organization, it’s usually funding some leftist cause. I don’t see Bezos being much different, politically.

A very good point, @edpc.

It's nobody's damn business what someone gives to charity.
-
Does he owe it to charity or something? It's his money he can do what he wants.

That's my opinion as well. Charity given for the publicity does not come from the heart.
-
If you ask these scolds how much of their own income they donate to charity, you’ll grow old waiting for an answer.
-
Yeah, but there's no number on how much he gave his side piece, so that could really bump the percentage way up.

@QueenCatofAragon
I'm still waiting to hear about how much extra money they send to the Treasury at tax time, since they always say the wealthy are "undertaxed." Uncle Sam would cheerfully accept any extra money his "subjects" decide to send, yet I have not heard of any extra paid by Warren Buffett or Ben Stein (both of whom claim the "rich" don't pay enough).

No, it's nobody's business but his. But it sure as hell isn't surprising... when you consider how stingy most leftie millionaires and billionaires are with their own damned money.... while spouting, spewing and advocating that "other Americans" have to pay more in taxes for ever-expanding social welfare schemes of the left. Their hypocrisy on this is well documented.

Reminds me of something former Speaker Jim Wright said: I give lots of money to charity! I am my favorite charity! (Paraphrased because I'm too lazy to Goggle it.)

Plus, he's giving his former main piece 50%.
-
Maybe he waiting until the end of his life to give to charity.

I'd say she earned every penny of it.

Only in the world of socialist MSM is $145M a pitiful amount of money.

Exactly. It is his money, to do with as he chooses.
Whose business is it but his?
(People trying to stir up envy, jealousy, greed, and resentment of someone who is successful, again.)
-
Sheesh!
Who else here (or 'there') gave away $145,000,000.00 to charity?
Much less $2,000,000,000.00?
Ungrateful harpies.
