Title: Scott Walker Doesn’t Have a College Degree. Do You Care?

This conversation was inevitable, but I’m a little surprised it came up this early. Al Hunt, writing at Bloomberg, notes that Scott Walker dropped out of Marquette University about a year short of earning his bachelor’s degree and wonders if it may affect his presidential prospects. Good columnist that he is, he then fails to answer the question whatsoever, noting only that “Americans celebrate higher education” and that “More than 40 percent of voters have a college degree.” (In other words, a majority don’t). Thanks, Al. Crackerjack work.

If anything, this strikes me as an asset for Walker. If his adversaries want to use this as a cudgel, they’ll have to make the case as to why his record is compromised on the basis of the fact that he never finished intro to sociology. Go ahead and embrace that argument. And be sure to do it loud enough so that all of the middle class and white working class voters who are now up for grabs can hear it. Please explain why the Republic will crumble if we don’t send a fifth consecutive representative of the Ivy League to the Oval Office.

There’s nothing wrong, of course, with higher education. As someone who has a couple of degrees himself, I’m certainly not advocating a society-wide strike against the academy. But there is something wrong with the notion that those credentials are the sole measure of intellectual seriousness. If Democrats — a party that has to turn to the Harvard Law faculty to find a populist figure — want to make that case, we should welcome the debate.

It's an asset in my book.  If a person can become Governor of a state without a college degree - he must really be on the ball.  It says a lot about him.

If a college degree is so important, then isn't it also important what courses they take? Will the dims insist that a degree in minority studies or feminist studies is a far better qualification than an MBA or Political Science degree that the GOP might favor? And then shouldn't we find out what GPA each candidate has?

What a useful campaign discussion that would be. NOT!  :chairbang:

I like Walker and could support him in a heart beat, but let there be no doubt the left will use this.

Knowing Walker, he'll have a good comeback if allowed to address that.  If we see there is momentum behind Walker (considering Rush's early gushing over him which he usually never does in primary season- there is), we should be ready as well with good come back lines and memes to spread.

Maybe appeal to the 'average guy' vote. The working class who never finished college. He represents them because he comes from where they do..
It may conflict a bit with how the unions tried to paint him but that failed.

I don't care, either.

If the 'rats attack him on this, I say fire back with a political ad that uses Harry Truman in an analogy to show that one can rise from common ranks to greatness...

Considering the number of idiots in government WITH college degrees, Walker's lack of one is a big plus!

I meant to also say that if he had a degree, he would probably be a lawyer and of absolutely no use to me in the political realm.
