Title: VA Dems Introduce New Gun And Ammo Bans As Session Begins
Post by: txradioguy on January 08, 2020, 01:55:22 pm
Virginia Democrats have introduced a revised ban on so-called “assault weapons” that requires existing gun owners to register their firearms with the state, and also bans outright the possession of magazines that can hold more than ten rounds as well as a ban on suppressors and “trigger activators”.

According to the legislative summary by Delegate Mark Levine, HB 961:

Quote
The bill makes it a Class 6 felony to import, sell, transfer, manufacture, purchase, possess, or transport large-capacity firearm magazines, silencers, and trigger activators, all defined in the bill. Any person who legally owns an assault firearm, large-capacity firearm magazine, silencer, or trigger activator on July 1, 2020, may retain possession until January 1, 2021. During that time, such person shall (i) render the assault firearm, large-capacity firearm magazine, silencer, or trigger activator inoperable; (ii) remove the assault firearm, large-capacity firearm magazine, silencer, or trigger activator from the Commonwealth; (iii) transfer the assault firearm, large-capacity firearm magazine, silencer, or trigger activator to a person outside the Commonwealth who is not prohibited from possessing it; or (iv) surrender the assault firearm, large-capacity firearm magazine, silencer, or trigger activator to a state or local law-enforcement agency.

Under the terms of this bill, every ammunition magazine in the state of Virginia that can accept more than ten rounds would have to be permanently modified to only hold ten rounds, destroyed, turned over, or removed from the state. This language is very similar to the language of New Jersey’s magazine ban, which is currently being challenged by residents in court.

Suppressors would have to be turned in, destroyed, or removed from the state of Virginia as well. No compensated confiscation here, just “Mr.-and-Mrs.-Virginia turn them all in.”

Virginia Democrat Files Bill to Force Every AR-15 Owner to Get a License to Own Their Gun

Richmond, VA—We told you yesterday about Democrat delegate Mark Levine.  This guy is a peach.  In office nearly five years, he pushes every piece of radically anti-American legislation he can.  If you can think of an outrageous assault on America’s values, this guy has voted for it.

He also represents one of the most urban districts of Virginia and thinks he’s insulated from losing his seat.

Levine was pushing for high capacity magazines yesterday.  Today it’s a licensing process for every single AR-15 in the state.  His bill, HB 961, would make it a felony to own an AR-15 or any “assault weapon” without a license from the state of Virginia.

What is an assault weapon to this America-hating leftist?  His bill defines it as “a semi-automatic center-fire rifle that expels single or multiple projectiles by action of an explosion of a combustible material with a fixed magazine capacity in excess of 10 rounds.” ... Most of the time, the gungrabbers don't have a clue what they're talking about.

@EdinVA

That is EXACTLY what it means,but is NOT what they meant. They know so little about weapons OR plain English they don't understand this.

The irony is under the law they are proposing,you can keep your 90 round drum magazine. It's the fixed magazines of some foreign weapons that are loaded with stripper clips that are to be banned.  If they can find them. I know a lot of people with guns,and can't think of a single one that has one that holds more than 10 rounds and has to be loaded with stripper clips.

Probably the most famous "stripper clip" pistol is the C96 "Broomhandle Mauser",but even it only holds 10 rounds as manufactured by the Germans. There were 10's of thousand of them make illegally by the Chinese who refused to pay royalty fees on the design (BIG surprise there,huh?),so it is possible some had larger magazines.

@EdinVA

BUT.......,firearms like the AR-15's are PRECISELY the ones protected by the 2nd Amendment,and the ones they want to confiscate.

And don't kid yourself. These elites that live in exclusive areas with gates and armed guards are NOT worried about street crime. They are worried about being called to order on the CONSTITUTIONAL CRIMES they dream of committing,but are too afraid to commit as long as Americans are armed.

Let's hope they stay stupid and leave the law as written....

@EdinVA

They won't. In fact it wouldn't even surprise me if they did this on purpose so the casual gun owner wouldn't worry about his AR-15 or Glock getting banned,and they will correct it right before it goes up for a vote so the NRA and knowledgeable gun owners won't have time to raise and effective protest.

I will grant you that the typical Dim is stupid,some of them are VERY smart as well as being VERY evil.

At this point,they are also VERY desperate. They thought they had the destruction of our Constitutional form of government in the bag,and along came maybe the LEAST likely candidate anyone would pick,and snatched it away from them at the last moment. On top of that,he is a fellow Billionaire they all know that is calling them on their lies and overturning their plans.

This is really more than they can deal with.

"Ammo ban?"  I see a magazine ban, but no ammo ban.

@Cyber Liberty it's farther down in the article...

Quote
Delegate Levine has also introduced HB 899, which would ban the possession and use of “restricted firearm ammunition” in the state, and makes it a felony to own any ammunition that meets the following criteria:

(i) Teflon coated or coated with a similar product;

(ii) commonly known as “KTW” bullets or “French Arcanes”; or

(iii) cartridges containing bullets coated with a plastic substance with other than lead or lead alloy cores, jacketed bullets with other than lead or lead alloy cores, or cartridges of which the bullet itself is wholly composed of a metal or metal alloy other than lead, but the definition does not include shotgun shells or solid plastic bullets.

In other words, any non-lead ammunition would be banned in the state, and you’d be a felon for possessing a single round of lead-free ammo. That is not only going to ban some of the most common ammunition, but it’s even ridiculous from a gun control perspective, given the push in places like California to ban lead ammunition for hunting.

Do you really think that the erroneous wording of this law will prevent Democrats from confiscating whatever guns they choose?  They'll just need a judge to sign off on it just like they do everything else.

The latest is HB 353 is to eliminate outdoor ranges thqat are within 500 yards of residential property. The way the law is written if the properties are adjoining it would be illegal.
