As President Barack Obama’s signature Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act enters the all-important sign-up phase next week, the president finds himself with some of the lowest approval ratings of his presidency even as Republicans in an unpopular Congress maneuver to block the health-care legislation from taking effect.
A Reuters-Ipsos poll of 1,729 Americans taken Sept. 20-24 found only 39 percent of those surveyed approve of the job Obama is doing as president, while 55 percent disapprove.
The Reuters-Ipsos poll found that 22 percent of those responding thought the country was headed in the right direction, while 64 percent thought it was on the wrong track.

40 is considered some kind of magical threshold when it comes to approval and he is now below it. What a golden opportunity for the Republicans to exploit his weakness and pass and promote policies contrary to his.
Will they seize the moment?

This is how it happened with Nixon. At first his numbers stayed crazily high - for a LONG time - then they started to tank and they tanked like a ton of bricks and he basically went into free-fall... which was when BOTH parties smelled blood in the water and worked together on Watergate in SELECT COMMITTEE - since a special prosecutor was as worthless an exercise with Nixon and his justice department as it would be this justice department and president.
