I have seen this done successfully elsewhere.
It is a collective thread for obituaries when the poster chooses to not post a specific thread on the passing of a particularly person. A new thread is started at the beginning of each year.
It is strictly up to the individual posters' preference as to whether or not they wish to post passings to this collective thread, or to give the passed person a thread of his/her own.
This thread also gives an opportunity to post the passings of people who achieved only niche fame rather than wide fame.

Jerry Vale, Who Crooned Smoothly of Love, Is Dead at 83
Jerry Vale, a pop crooner known for his velvety voice and the classic love songs he recorded in the 1950s and early ’60s, died on Sunday at his home in Palm Desert, Calif. He was 83.
His family confirmed his death.
Mr. Vale rose to stardom performing in supper clubs as a teenager, hitting the charts for the first time in 1953 with “You Can Never Give Me Back My Heart.” He was a fixture at Columbia Records, where he recorded more than 50 albums and had hits with songs like “Two Purple Shadows” and “Al Di La.” His biggest hit, “You Don’t Know Me,” peaked at No. 14 on Billboard’s Hot 100 in 1956.

Formula One great Sir Jack Brabham, one of the sport's most accomplished drivers and team owners, died Monday at his home in Australia after a long illness, his family said.

Maya Angelou, author and poet, dead at 86
American author and poet Maya Angelou, who is best known for her groundbreaking autobiography "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings," has died at age 86 in North Carolina, her publisher confirmed on Wednesday.
The prolific African-American writer penned more than 30 books, won numerous awards, and was honored last year by the National Book Awards for her service to the literary community.

Of course not, and that, according to Radu Florescu, is precisely the point: The two men, he argued, were one and the same.
Professor Florescu, who died on May 18 at 88, was the scion of a distinguished Romanian family and a noted scholar of Balkan affairs. But he was known to a much wider public as the author of books that sought to identify Vlad, the evildoing 15th-century monarch, as the historical inspiration for Bram Stoker’s antihero.

Washington star and NBA Hall of Famer, Bob Houbregs, dies at 82
Bob Houbregs, the Hall of Fame basketball player who starred at Washington and played in the NBA, has died. He was 82.
Houbregs died Wednesday morning, the school confirmed. Details of his death were not immediately available.
The 6-foot-7 Canadian was a star in college thanks to his hook shot. He led Washington to its only Final Four appearance in 1953, capping his stellar college career.

Ann B. Davis, Alice on 'Brady Bunch,' dies
Ann B. Davis, known for her role as housekeeper Alice Nelson on "The Brady Bunch," died Sunday, close friend Bishop William Frey said. She was 88.
According to Frey, Davis fell and hit her head Saturday morning in her bathroom. She suffered a subdural hematoma and never regained consciousness.
Among Davis's most notable roles were Alice, the maid on The Brady Bunch and Charmaine Schultz on The Bob Cummings Show (now better known as Love That Bob! and among those old TV shows that have now ended up in the public domain). For her role on Bob, she won two Emmy Awards.

Former Cy Young Award winner Bob Welch dies at 57
Bob Welch, a former Cy Young Award winner and the last Major League pitcher to win at least 25 games in a season, has passed away at the age of 57, the Oakland Athletics announced Tuesday.
Welch, a two-time All-Star who posted a 27-6 record as the Cy Young Award winner on the Athletics' 1990 American League championship team, passed away in Seal Beach, Monday night. Cause of death was undetermined.

Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, who has died aged 80, was a conductor who delivered memorable interpretations of the works of his Spanish compatriots while championing the Germanic canon on the Iberian Peninsula.

Daniel Keyes (b.1927) died on June 15. Keyes is best known for his short story "Flowers for Algernon," which won the Hugo Award, and its expansion, the Nebula Award-winning novel of the same title. The book was turned into the film Charly, which won an Oscar for star Cliff Robertson, and the less successful musical Charlie and Algernon.

Baker, who served in Tokyo from 2001 until early 2005, died Thursday at his home, according to an email distributed at the law firm where Baker was senior counsel. He died as a result of complications from a stroke suffered Saturday, the email said.

Paul Mazursky, the Oscar-nominated writer-director who excelled at mining the urban middle class for laughs as well as tears in such movies as "Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice," "Blume in Love," "An Unmarried Woman" and "Down and Out in Beverly Hills," has died. He was 84.
Mazursky died of pulmonary cardiac arrest Monday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, according to family spokeswoman Nancy Willen.
A gentle satirist of contemporary society, Mazursky at his best chronicled the social trends of the late 1960s and the '70s, including its touchy-feely self-improvement fads, shifting rules for love and sex, drug experimentation and other excesses.

Conservative activist Richard Mellon Scaife dies at 82

Richard Mellon Scaife, the billionaire heir to the Mellon banking and oil fortune, has died at age 82, the Associated Press reported Friday.
Scaife died early Friday at his home, according to his home newspaper, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
His death comes less than two months after he announced in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, a newspaper he owned, that he had an untreatable form of cancer.
"Some who dislike me may rejoice at the news," wrote Scaife, "Naturally, I can't share their enthusiasm.

Jim Brosnan, Who Threw Literature a Curve, Dies at 84
Jim Brosnan, who achieved modest baseball success as a relief pitcher but gained greater fame and consequence in the game by writing about it, died on June 29 in Park Ridge, Ill. He was 84.
The cause was an infection he developed while recovering from a stroke, his son, Timothy, said.
In 1959, Brosnan, who played nine years in the major leagues, kept a diary of his experience as a pitcher, first with the St. Louis Cardinals and later, after a trade, with the Cincinnati Reds. Published the next year as "The Long Season," it was a new kind of sportswriting -- candid, shrewd and highly literate, more interested in presenting the day-to-day lives and the actual personalities of the men who played the game than in maintaining the fiction of ballplayers as all-American heroes and role models.

Sad news to report, as drummer Tommy Ramone, the last surviving founding member of the legendary punk band The Ramones, has passed away at the age of 62.
Following a tragic period from 2001 to 2004 where Joey, Dee Dee and Johnny Ramone all died within a few years of each other, Tommy had remained the only living founding member of The Ramones until yesterday (July 11). The drummer died after a battle with bile duct cancer.
Tommy, whose real name was Erdelyi Tamas, was born in Budapest, Hungary, but grew up in Queens, N.Y., where the Ramones famously formed. He played on the band’s first three studio albums — ‘The Ramones,’ ‘Leave Home’ and ‘Rocket To Russia’ — before leaving the band in 1978. He also appeared on the band’s 1979 live disc ‘It’s Alive.’

Lorin Maazel, a former child prodigy who went on to hold the music directorships of the New York Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Vienna State Opera and several other ensembles and companies around the world, and who was known for his incisive and sometimes extreme interpretations, died on Sunday at his home in Castleton, Va. Red Klotz, loser of thousands of games to the Harlem Globetrotters, dies at 93
Red Klotz, who owned, coached and played for a number of teams that toured with and lost to the Harlem Globetrotters -- most famously the Washington Generals -- died Saturday in his sleep in Margate, N.J., the Press of Atlantic City reported. He was 93.
Klotz was a prep basketball standout in Philadelphia, twice being named that city's high school player of the year before going on to play at Villanova. He was on the Baltimore Bullets' 1947-48 NBA championship team. At 5 feet 7, he is tied with six others as the third-shortest NBA player ever, and was the shortest player ever to be on an NBA championship team.
In 1952, Globetrotters owner Gabe Saperstein asked if Klotz would form a team to compete against the Globetrotters on a regular basis.

Texas blues legend Johnny Winter, known for his lightning-fast blues guitar riffs, his striking long white hair and his collaborations with the likes of Jimi Hendrix and childhood hero Muddy Waters, has died. He was 70.
Winter was a leading light among the white blues guitar players, including Eric Clapton and the late Stevie Ray Vaughan, who followed in the footsteps of the earlier Chicago blues masters. Elaine Stritch, Tart-Tongued Broadway Actress and Singer, Is Dead at 89
Elaine Stritch, the brassy, tart-tongued Broadway actress and singer who became a living emblem of show business durability and perhaps the leading interpreter of Stephen Sondheim's wryly acrid musings on aging, died on Thursday at her home in Birmingham, Mich. She was 89.
Her death was confirmed by a friend, Julie Keyes. Before Ms. Stritch moved to Birmingham last year, she lived for many years at the Carlyle Hotel in Manhattan.
Ms. Stritch's career began in the 1940s and spanned almost 70 years. She made her fair share of appearances in movies, including Woody Allen's "September" (1987) and "Small Time Crooks" (2000), and on television; well into her 80s, she had a recurring role on the NBC comedy "30 Rock" as the domineering mother of the television executive played by Alec Baldwin.
But the stage was her true professional home. Whether in musicals, nonmusical dramas or solo cabaret shows, she drew audiences to her with her whiskey voice, her seen-it-all manner and the blunt charisma of a star.

Former Dallas Cowboys fullback Robert Newhouse, who will be remembered most for throwing a touchdown pass to Golden Richards while running to his left in Super Bowl XII on one of Tom Landry’s famous trick plays, died Tuesday night. He was 64.
Newhouse battled health issues since suffering a stroke in 2010.
He spent much of the past year at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., hoping to get a heart transplant.
Newhouse never got strong enough for the transplant before succumbing to heart disease at the Mayo Clinic, his son Rodd Newhouse confirmed Tuesday night.
His final days were a stark contrast to how he lived and how he played football during a 12-year career with the Cowboys that included three Super Bowl appearances and a Super Bowl title in 1977.
Generously listed at 5-foot-10, 209 pounds, Newhouse ran with power, typified by his always churning massive thighs.
He had two nicknames during his career with the Cowboys, “House” and “human bowling ball” for his low-running style through defenses with those powerful thighs.

Margot Adler, An NPR Journalist For Three Decades and Author, Dies
Margot joined the NPR staff as a general assignment reporter in 1979. She went on to cover everything from the beginnings of the AIDS epidemic to confrontations involving the Ku Klux Klan in Greensboro, N.C., to the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
"Her reporting was singular and her voice distinct," Margaret Low Smith, NPR's vice president for news, said in an announcement to staff. "There was almost no story that Margot couldn't tell."
Adler authored Drawing Down the Moon, a 1979 book about Neopaganism which was revised in 2006. The book is considered a watershed in American Neopagan circles, as it provided the first comprehensive look at modern nature-based religions in the US. For many years it was the only introductory work about the American Neopagan communities.

James Brady, who served as White House press secretary under President Ronald Reagan and was badly wounded in the assassination attempt against Reagan in 1981, has died. He was 73.

Internationally renowned Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe, whose work was shaped by his love of the Australian landscape, has died aged 85.
The Launceston-born composer passed away at Wolper Jewish Hospital in Sydney after a long illness.
Sculthorpe's best-known achievement was his capacity to bring to Australians a sense of their land and history in the music of one of their own.
His many remarkable compositions were strongly influenced by Asian, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music, and centred around his deep love for Australia and its landscape.

Solomon Islander who helped JFK save PT-109 crew dies
On a moonless night in August 1943, on a pitch-black strait in the Solomon Islands, two vessels collided.
A fireball bloomed, and the Navy gave up John F. Kennedy’s PT-109 crew for dead. But Lieutenant Kennedy fought, swimming for hours with his 10 remaining crewmembers, pulling one along by holding his life jacket strap in his teeth.
Kennedy’s heroics may have been for naught without Eroni Kumana and Biuku Gasa, two Solomon Islanders. They found Kennedy and his crew six days after the wreck, subsisting on coconuts on a small island.
The two took a message from Kennedy, which he etched into a green coconut, and paddled at great risk 35 miles through Japanese territory to deliver it to the nearest Allied base. A rescue was launched. The crew, and the future president, were saved.
Gasa died in 2005; Kumana died last week.

A family member tells us Bacall had a massive stroke Tuesday morning at her home.
Bacall -- who famously starred with and married Humphrey Bogart -- starred in a slew of movies, including "The Mirror Has Two Faces," "How to Marry a Millionaire" and "Designing Woman."
One of Bacall's biggest movies was with Bogart -- "Key Largo" in 1948.
She married Bogart in 1945 and they were together until his death in 1957.
Bacall married Jason Robards in 1961. They divorced in 1969.
Bacall had 3 children.

Lauren Bacall, the longtime Oscar-winning actress, has died, according to a reports on Tuesday.
She was 89 when she passed, TMZ reported. The wesbite cited family members as its source of information.
It said she died on Tuesday morning in her home.
The death was first reported on by MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts on Tuesday night via his Twitter account.
Bacall is best known for her roles in “The Mirror Has Two Faces,” “Designing Woman,” and “To Have and Have.”
Bacall was also married to Humphrey Bogart from 1945 to 1957, when he died.
Roberts or TMZ did not any other details about her death. “BREAKING NEWS – actress Lauren Bacall passes away at the age of 89 according to my source who is connected with friends & family,” Roberts wrote on Twitter.
Some people were tweeting a Media Mass link, which says Lauren Bacall isn’t dead and the whole thing is a hoax. However, Media Mass is a “satire” website, according to its disclaimer.
“The website mediamass.net is the medium of our satire to expose with humour, exaggeration and ridicule the contemporary mass production and mass consumption that we observe,” it says.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — George Barrett, a longtime Tennessee civil rights lawyer known for handling a case that ultimately desegregated the state's public colleges and universities, has died. He was 86.
Barrett died Tuesday at a hospital, several partners of his Nashville-based law firm told The Associated Press.
In a career that spanned more than 50 years, Barrett not only handled numerous civil rights cases, he also represented corporate whistleblowers, fought for labor rights and tackled securities fraud, his partners said.
He is perhaps best known as the attorney who filed a lawsuit in 1968 for then-Tennessee State University instructor Rita Geier, who accused the state of operating a dual system of higher education for minorities.
Geier, then 23, filed the lawsuit over the University of Tennessee's plans to develop a Nashville campus. She feared UT-Nashville would become a predominantly white school and that historically black Tennessee State would suffer. The case dragged on for 38 years, and the state ultimately agreed to provide millions of dollars to diversify public colleges and universities.

One of the great Italian divas, the soprano Magda Olivero, has died at the age of 104 in Milan after a career spanning more than 70 years.
She died on Monday in hospital after suffering a stroke last month, Italian news agency Ansa reported.
Magda Olivero made her debut in the 1930s but stopped performing after getting married in 1941.
She was coaxed back on to the stage 10 years later and enjoyed renewed stardom in Europe and the US.
She was still performing in public at the age of 99.
La Scala opera house in Milan - where she made her earliest performances - asked the public to hold a moment of silence before a performance on Monday.
The opera house described her voice as charismatic, her acting as formidable and her intelligence as "ready and cutting until the end".

Tony Auth, 72, of Wynnewood, the Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist and mainstay of The Inquirer's editorial page for four decades before resigning in 2012 to become a digital artist, has died.
Mr. Auth had been under treatment for metastatic brain cancer. David Leopold, his friend and curator, said he died at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania on Sunday, Sept. 14, four days after his supporters announced a fundraising effort for an archive devoted to his work at Temple University.
Mr. Auth's remarkable career began in 1971 when the fledgling artist from California flew in to Philadelphia to interview for the position of editorial cartoonist.

James A. Traficant Jr., colorful Ohio congressman expelled by House, dies at 73
James A. Traficant Jr., an iconoclastic nine-term Ohio populist in the U.S. House of Representatives who was convicted on corruption charges in 2002, becoming the second member of Congress to be expelled since the Civil War, died Sept. 27 at a hosptial in Youngstown, Ohio. He was 73.
A family spokeswoman, Heidi Hanni, confirmed his death to reporters. The former congressman was injured in a tractor accident on his farm near Greenford, Ohio, on Tuesday. A former aide told reporters in Ohio that he apparently had a heart attack while driving the tractor, which overturned inside a building and left the former congressman trapped underneath.

Anyway, I got to know Traficant a bit when I lived in Poland, Ohio. That was his hometown also. I was working on a couple of projects and I asked for Congressman Traficant's help - which he was very willing to provide. He was a powerfully quick study. I thought astonishingly so. We met for breakfast a couple of times and he also came to my office a few times. At that time he drove a tired Camaro or Firebird. He was definitely not PC in private conversation and he often told the story of a "Chinaman" running back in college (I think Notre Dame or Pitt). He once had us as guests on his local Sunday morning news show and shared the story word-for-word, the way he would in private. I remember my surprise. He was unbelievably popular in the Mahoning Valley because, as County Sheriff he was charged by the feds on racketeering and bribery charges. He represented himself and argued he was conducting his own investigation and did not intend to keep any cash he obtained while "undercover". By his acquittal, he became a local hero. I will tell you, the Mahoning Valley of Ohio which includes Youngstown, is one corrupt place and Traficant knew how to navigate it just like breathing. The Mob there was (is?) very real.
One morning, Traficant was to meet me at a restaurant in Boardman, Ohio. I had brought along a young-looking engineer to meet him for the first time. The engineer and I were at opposite sides of a booth and the Congressman came in, sat beside the engineer - and gave him a "noogie" complete with headlock. Before the introduction was made! Amazing.
When there were no reporters or cameras around, he was reserved, observant and always "calculating". But when it was show time, it was a thing to behold. Funny thing is... he sold me. I was convinced he was Democrat for convenience in the Democratic stronghold of the Mahoning Valley - but, if he had any true principles - a very real "if" - they were conservative. His was a personality larger than life.
If you ever want to wonder if this was a true "accident", you'd be justified in the Mahoning Valley of Ohio. I am sure he had his enemies.

Ousted Haitian dictator, Jean-Claude Duvalier dies (Baby Doc)
Jean-Claude-Duvalier, the self-proclaimed "president for life" of Haiti whose corrupt and brutal regime sparked a popular uprising that sent him into a 25-year exile, died Saturday of a heart attack, his attorney said.
Reynold George said the 63-year-old ex-leader died at his home.
Duvalier, looking somewhat frail, made a surprise return to Haiti in 2011, allowing victims of his regime to pursue legal claims against him and prompting some old allies to rally around him. Neither side gained much support, and the once-feared dictator known as "Baby Doc" spent his late years in relative obscurity in the leafy hills above the Haitian capital.
Duvalier was the son of Francois "Papa Doc" Duvalier, a medical doctor-turned-dictator who promoted "Noirisme," a movement that sought to highlight Haiti's African roots over its European ones while uniting the black majority against a mulatto elite in a country divided by class and color.

Raiders Leader Paul Revere Dead at 76
"The Madmen of Rock & Roll" was known for his unique outfits, infectious stage persona and garage rock hits
Paul Revere, organist and ringleader of the long-running rock band the Raiders, passed away October 4th at his home in Idaho, the band's official website revealed. Revere was 76. No cause of death was revealed, but TMZ reports that Revere (born Paul Revere Dick) battled with cancer over the past year. Thanks to his colorful clothing and infectious stage persona, Revere earned a reputation as "the madman of rock & roll." He and his Raiders scored a handful of hits throughout their five decades together, including their anti-drug smash "Kicks."

Jan Hooks, actress and comedian, dead at 57
Jan Hooks, who worked alongside some of the biggest "Saturday Night Live" stars ... died Thursday ... TMZ has learned. She was 57.
We've learned she passed away this morning in New York City. Sources tell us Jan had been battling a serious illness.
Jan was part of the 'SNL' cast from 1986-91 ... the same time as Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Phil Hartman, Dana Carvey and Dennis Miller ... and was most famous for being half of the Sweeney Sisters ... and also for her impressions of Sinead O'Connor and Hillary Clinton.
She most recently played a part on "30 Rock."
Right after 'SNL', Jan joined the cast of "Designing Women." She also had a famous role in "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure."
Jan had dated fellow SNL star Kevin Nealon ... before she was on SNL.
She was nominated for an Emmy in 1998 for a role on "3rd Rock from the Sun."

Iconic fashion designer Oscar de la Renta has died, a family member told ABC News. He was 82.
De la Renta was diagnosed with cancer in 2006.
Born in the Dominican Republic in 1932, de la Renta left home at 18 to study painting in Madrid. It was there he developed a love of fashion design and began an apprenticeship with Cristóbal Balenciaga, who became his mentor, and then, landed a job with Lanvin in Paris. Soon after, he moved to New York City.

Jack Bruce, the singer and bassist for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band Cream, has passed away, his family confirmed the musician's passing on his Facebook page. He was 71.
"It is with great sadness that we, Jack’s family, announce the passing of our beloved Jack: husband, father, granddad, and all round legend. The world of music will be a poorer place without him, but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts," the Bruce family wrote. Bruce's publicist added, "He died today at his home in Suffolk surrounded by his family." No other details were revealed but the Press Association reports that the bassist suffered from liver disease.
As one-third of one of rock's greatest trios, along with guitarist Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker, Bruce was the voice and songwriter behind classic tracks like "White Room," "SWLABR," and "Sunshine of Your Love," which Bruce co-wrote with Clapton. Considered to be the first rock "supergroup," Cream pumped out four studio albums in three years – three of which landed on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time – before going their separate ways.
The band reunited briefly in 1993 for their Rock Hall induction, then again in for a triumphant series of 2005 concerts at London's Royal Albert Hall and New York's Madison Square Garden. In 2006, Bruce and his Cream mates received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Bruce also occasionally served as a member of Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band and collaborated on the title track of Frank Zappa's Apostrophe.
Following Cream's breakup in 1968, Bruce kickstarted a long solo career with 1969's Songs of a Tailor. He would release over a dozen solo LPs over the next 45 years, including his latest album titled Silver Rails in March 2014. "I quite like to just enjoy my life. I'm thrilled to make this album. I put my heart and soul into it, and I'm very pleased with the way it came out," Bruce told Rolling Stone of his new album in April.
Cream also landed on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Artists, and in an ode to the trio written by Roger Waters, the Pink Floyd bassist writes, "Then there's Jack Bruce — probably the most musically gifted bass player who's ever been."

Longtime business journalist Terry Keenan, who reported for CNN and Fox News, died suddenly Thursday night from a massive cerebral hemorrhage, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Keenan had a distinguished career as an anchor and financial analyst and most recently served as a Sunday columnist for the New York Post.
“It is with tremendous sorrow that we report the passing ... of a wonderful mother, wife, sister and pioneering financial journalist,” her family said in a statement published by Mediaite.
Keenan died at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York.
She joined CNN in 1986 as a producer for the cable network’s “Moneyline” program and later became an on-air correspondent.
From 1995 to 1998 she served as an anchor at CNBC, and then rejoined CNN.

Jack Broughton, 89, Dies; Pilot in Vietnam Turned Critic of Leaders
Col. Jack Broughton flew more than 200 jet-fighter missions in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and received the Air Force Cross, his service’s highest award for valor after the Medal of Honor. He led the Air Force’s Thunderbirds in acrobatics that thrilled air show spectators in the mid-1950s and piloted nearly 50 types of military aircraft.
But in June 1967, he faced a possible prison term when the Air Force accused him of covering up the strafing of a Soviet freighter in the North Vietnamese port of Cam Pha by a pilot under his command.
Colonel Broughton and two of his pilots were court-martialed. All were acquitted of the most serious charges, conspiracy to violate Air Force rules of engagement that forbade such an attack. But Colonel Broughton’s career was destroyed in the fallout from one of the most contentious issues of the Vietnam War: the restrictions Washington placed on bomber pilots out of fear that the Soviet Union or China could be drawn into the conflict.

Carol Ann Susi, who is best known for voicing Mrs. Wolowitz on CBS' The Big Bang Theory, died early Tuesday morning in Los Angeles after battling cancer. She was 62.

"The Big Bang Theory family has lost a beloved member today with the passing of Carol Ann Susi, who hilariously and memorably voiced the role of Mrs. Wolowitz," read a statement from Warner Bros. Television and Big Bang Theory producers Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro and Bill Prady. "Unseen by viewers, the Mrs. Wolowitz character became a bit of a mystery throughout the show's eight seasons. What was not a mystery, however, was Carol Ann's immense talent and comedic timing, which were on display during each unforgettable appearance. In addition to her talent, Carol Ann was a constant source of joy and kindness to all. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with her family during this time, and we will miss her greatly."
Her co-stars mourned her on social media.
Mrs. Wolowitz was rarely seen on-screen — though eagle-eyed viewers caught a glimpse of the pink-clad parent at Howard's (Simon Helberg) wedding in the fifth season finale.
"The glimpse on the rooftop is all you're going to get for now!" showrunner Molaro told The Hollywood Reporter at the time. "Isn't she better left to the imagination? There are no plans to actually see her on camera, and I think it's probably better that way."
It is unclear how Susi's passing will impact the show, though it is worth noting Melissa Rauch (Bernadette) does a spot-on impression of her character. Mrs. Wolowitz has had a central storyline this season, in which the gang's friend Stuart (Kevin Sussman) moves in with Mrs. Wolowitz to nurse her through her declining health. Howard becomes jealous, thinking Stuart has replaced him in his mother's heart.

His death went unreported except for a short mention in the SAG-AFTRA performers union magazine, which said he died in the morning, somewhere in San Pedro. Which means I was still close to him even though, unfortunately, I was no longer close to him. Perhaps he was in a care home.
He would have turned 93 on Oct. 19.

Charles Champlin, the former Los Angeles Times arts editor, film critic and columnist whose insightful, elegantly written reviews and columns informed and entertained readers for decades, died Sunday at his Los Angeles home. He was 88.
The cause was complications of Alzheimer's disease, said his son, Charles Champlin Jr.

Mike Nichols, one of America's most celebrated directors, whose long, protean résumé of critic- and crowd-pleasing work earned him adulation both on Broadway and in Hollywood, died on Wednesday. He was 83.

Crime novelist PD James, who penned more than 20 books, has died aged 94.
Her agent said she died "peacefully at her home in Oxford" on Thursday morning.
The author's books, many featuring sleuth Adam Dalgliesh, sold millions of books around the world, with various adaptations for television and film.
Her best known novels include The Children of Men, The Murder Room and Pride and Prejudice spin-off Death Comes to Pemberley.

Frank Yablans, the president of Paramount Pictures during the fertile early ’70s era that produced films including “The Godfather” and “Chinatown,” died of natural causes Thursday at his home in Los Angeles, according to his son, ICM Partners agent Eddy Yablans. He was 79.

Jean Beliveau, a former captain of the Montreal Canadiens whose combination of size, grace and skill made him one of the dominant offensive ice hockey players in the 1950s and 1960s and a revered public figure in Canada, died Dec. 2 in Longueuil, a Montreal suburb. He was 83.
The team announced the death. The hockey player had many health setbacks over recent years, including strokes, but an immediate cause of death was not disclosed.
Starting in 1953, Mr. Beliveau spent 40 years with the National Hockey League’s Montreal Canadiens, the first 18 as a player and the last 22 as the team’s vice president of public relations and goodwill ambassador.

Former WWE Star Jimmy Del Ray Passes Away
David Ferrier, who is best known for his appearances in the early 1990s in the World Wrestling Federation as one-half of the Heavenly Bodies as "Gigolo" Jimmy Del Ray, has passed away.
PWInsider.com has confirmed that Ferrier died Saturday night following what is believed to have been a heart attack. He was 52-years-old.

Cavanaugh, best known as the voice of the title character in the film Babe and for her roles as Chuckie Finster in the long-running Nickelodeon cartoon Rugrats and Dexter in Cartoon Network's Dexter's Laboratory, died December 22 at the age of 51 from unknown causes.
