DOD concerned by Turkey purchase of Russian air defense system

By Ellen Mitchell - 07/31/17 05:39 PM EDT

The Pentagon is concerned by Turkey’s decision to buy a Russian air defense system, Defense Department spokesman Jeff Davis said Monday.

Davis said that Defense officials “certainly are aware of the reports” that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is currently in talks with Russia to buy the S-400 surface-to-air missile system.

“Our only concern about it is one of interoperability,” Davis told reporters at the Pentagon. “Turkey is a NATO ally. Generally speaking, it’s a good idea for allies to buy interoperable equipment.”

DoD and NATO to reevaluate Turkey's continued usefulness to NATO.

AFAIC, it's over.  During Iraq 2.0 they refused NATO permission to move war materiel in preparation for a Northern Front against Saddam.

In the fight against ISIS, they refused permission for the US to launch combat missions out of Incirlik AB.

And the prospect of them getting their first F35 in the near future should give anyone great pause.

The country has gone islamist.

Turks should have been kicked out of NATO when they invaded Cyprus in 1974.
