Dangerous bacterial infection hits highest level seen in Canada in more than a decade

Annual cases of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD), a rare but dangerous bacterial infection, have hit the highest level seen in Canada in more than a decade.

This rapidly progressing illness is known for causing a host of serious complications, including meningitis — a swelling of the membranes around the brain and spinal cord — alongside bloodstream infection, sepsis, severe organ damage and even long-term disability or death.

Infants and young adults have some of the highest death rates, federal data shows.

"That's a very significant consequence and very serious disease at such a young age," said Dr. Cristin Muecke, a regional medical officer of health at Nova Scotia Health. "And so from that perspective, even though it is rare, the consequences are quite high."

While annual case counts dropped dramatically after the rollout of meningococcal vaccines in the early 2000s — and they hit a record low in 2021 amid the sweeping restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic — recent Canadian public health data shows a steady return of IMD.

The meningitis belt of sub-Saharan African historically experienced major epidemics of meningococcal disease every 5 to 12 years. Attack rates during these epidemics reached up to 1,000 cases per 100,000 population.

Risk factors for meningococcal disease outbreaks in Africa aren't fully understood. However, the following characteristics create favorable conditions for meningococcal disease epidemics:

*Dry, dusty conditions during the dry season (December to June)
*Immunological susceptibility of the population
*Travel and large population displacements
*Crowded living conditions

Canada will never admit that. Canada, like America and Europe, is just another Western Nation which is more than willing to accept Rape and Death of their own citizens to protect immigration.

I for one cannot and will not accept death and rape of of the citizens of this country to protect immigration.

I realize that under this Trump administration ILLEGAL immigration is way down, but there are still American citizens that fall victim to the hands of ILLEGALS.  The liberal  DEM  leftists continue to wage a battle FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION to obtain votes so that they can take back control over the populace. They would rather see riots, murders and rapes so that this country fails rather than see America survive, especially under Trump.  Their lunacy and evilness hasn't changed.

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION and BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP is WRONG!!!  Liberalism hasn't worked in the past, isn't working now and sure as heck won't work in the future.
