The talk-radio host claims that he never took Donald Trump seriously on immigration. He neglected to tell his immigration obsessed listeners....
...Had Limbaugh merely failed to foresee the future that would be forgivable, especially if he took responsibility for the failure. Instead, Limbaugh betrayed his listeners. And a call this week on his program is the quintessential illustration of his betrayal.....

The next question should be, what else does he know Trump is lying about that he isn't telling us?

LOL, a lot of freepers are justifying this as 'Rush is a Cruzbot and is stabbing Our Donald(TM) in the back'

I know. I saw that. What a crazy, mixed up world they inhabit.....
-
Wow. **nononono*
-
For once, Rush didn't start his program on news about himself.

For once, Rush didn't start his program on news about himself.
So, what did he find to talk about?
-
So, what did he find to talk about?
So far about a movie (about football) and football.
-
I'm glad this story has legs. Limbaugh, Savage, Hannity, Ingraham... its long past time to cull the phonies from the herd.
-
It would seem to be a contagion that is effecting them all (talk show hosts and pundits). Even Levin stated he would probably hold his nose and vote Trump against Hillary. That is, of course, their choice to make. We all have our own choices to make in life. I will stand my mine re: this election. Trump just isn't worthy. Neither candidates are worthy. So ....millions will abstain from voting and one of the biggest losers in America and one of the two most detested candidates will be the winner. A win by default. It's a sad and sorry state that we've been brought (dragged) down to.
-
I stopped listening to Limbaugh months ago and dumped my 24/7 subscription. His pandering of a NY liberal while pretending to straddle the fence was nauseating. His line stating that if we do not vote for Trump, we elect Hillary (stated a month before the convention) was the final straw for me.
Oh well. Apostates to foundational truth abound in this day and age.

Unfortunately. Levin though is not bashing those who state they cannot vote for Trump, while he will continue to practice insanity in the voting booth himself, at least he is not castigating others with principles who will not.
-
So, what did he find to talk about?
He just announced he's taking the rest of the week off.
Has nothing to do with the reaction to his Trump immigration comments, I'm sure.
-
What a devastating piece. Rush will not recover from this, his betrayal of his own audience. They may stick with him through the election, but when Trump loses in a landslide, the words of "caller Rick" will be prescient:
But this is why Trump is going to get annihilated. Because nobody called him out early on about his absurd policies
The Trumpsters have been betrayed. Not that it couldn't happen to a nicer bunch, but the rest of us will be victims too - of the next four years of Democratic hegemony. This could have been prevented, if so-called opinion leaders like Rush had hinted early on that Trump simply wasn't to be believed, that rounding up and deporting 11 million immigrants wasn't serious policy, that building a beautiful thousand-mile wall was nothing more than puffery to fool an audience desperate to believe.
Rush instead chose to pander to his audience, and treat them like children, stuffing them with Trump's sugar and lauding them on their perceptivity and righteous anger.
May Rush be damned to live in Hillary Clinton's America like the rest of us. May he be stripped of all respectability like Jimmy Swaggert was.
It is time for conservatives to take names and prepare for the coming reckoning. Rush, Ingraham, Hannity - the lot of 'em, abject betrayers of their audience, and prime catalysts for the next Clinton presidency. Damn them all.
-
He just announced he's taking the rest of the week off.

Which is quite unusual for him. Usually if he is in the news, good or bad, he leads with it and tries to explain it away.
-
The next question should be, what else does he know Trump is lying about that he isn't telling us?
My guess is that he knows Trump is lying about everything conservatives care about.
Rush has known Trump a long time, and knows he's a hard core liberal.
That's why when he entered the cone of silence about Trump's liberalism, and kept praising him, I knew he was either a complete fraud, or had sold his soul.
In either case, I haven't listened to a minute of Rush since then, and love my afternoons without him.
-
...and second hour he is back on the football movie. I wonder how much that plug costs (and you know it does, someone of his stature doesn't give away endorsements cheaply- and there is nothing wrong with that)
-
Now he is addressing it...
Oh wait, no, he is still talking about football, just about the news reporting on what he said about Kaepernick.
LOL

Right. And the day he does start bashing the #neverTrumpers is the day I'll stop listening or tuning in to him, too. I'm sure he's aware of that backlash, which is why he's not making that mistake. At least....not now and not yet.
-

It will be interesting to see if Levin is the last man standing in this election cycle.
Clearly everyone else has sold out, and Rush was first in line.
-

I think Levin isn't being careful - he's actually saying what he believes.
-
Which is quite unusual for him. Usually if he is in the news, good or bad, he leads with it and tries to explain it away.
I wonder what tact Limbaugh will try next to salvage his credibility over this whole thing, since his first attempt didn't work out so well for him.
-
Finally on it close to the end of hour 2.
Now the argument is: Trump could make things worse and it wouldn't matter..... There you have it...
Of course, he is repeating the old lie that Trump is an outsider and not a politician.
-
I think Levin isn't being careful - he's actually saying what he believes.
Well...ok. Come to think of it, he doesn't ever sound like he gives a damn what folks think of what he says. Point taken.
-
He has spent months and months defending Trump and now says he knew it was phony all along?
And he thinks he still has any credibility?
-
He just announced he's taking the rest of the week off.
Has nothing to do with the reaction to his Trump immigration comments, I'm sure.
He has spent months defending Trump against conservative callers and now says he knew it was all phony on immigration the whole time, wow, and he thinks taking a few days off will fix this? lol.

It wouldn't matter? How does he explain that?

My take is that he was trying to play both ends and it backfired.
He wouldn't have given Lindsay Graham a pass on saying weird things, and he hasn't in the past.
Had Rand Paul or Ted Cruz (who Rush has called a "true" conservative) said some of those goofy things, He would say something like "Folks, I just don't understand it, it makes no sense".
Yet, Trump goes off and Rush says "Well, that's just Trump being Trump".
I didn't send Trump people into a tizzy by saying that, they thought that meant Rush was okay with it.
Also, it was supposed to be signal to the non-Trump people that he was on to him.
He was trying to keep an audience by staying lukewarm, which isn't how he built his career.
He used to often say things like, "Folks, we're the ones who are supposed to be better than this".
-
My take is that he was trying to play both ends and it backfired.
No. That is not the way I saw it at all.
Rush, having stated Cruz was the real Conservative's Conservative early on, began ignoring much of Cruz when Trump began pulling away.
Limbaugh spent much of the primary chortling with glee over Trump's non-PC attacks on the media and the Establishment, and spent most of his shows up until I dumped him - analyzing the amazing ability of Trump to be able to say and do anything and never lose any shred of support.
In short, Rush was contributing to a Cult of Personality - and did absolutely no favors to push or promote actual Conservatism this election cycle.
He pushed the Trump - and now the fruits of his bad choice and his own abandonment of the principles he preached on the air all those years has gone the way of Swaggart and Baker.
Of course there will be Loyalists to the man, but for those of us who are Believers in the Principles of Conservatism - Rush has become just another apostate.
Not too unlike the current Pope giving all kinds of kudos and apologies for Islam, betraying his own faith for expedience of the zeitgeist they think will assume all power.

I'd be willing to bet the timing was intentional, and this is the least listened to segment of his show.

is it the third hour that is aired on Armed Forces Radio?
-
Aside from Rush's perfidy, he needs to get himself to drug rehab..........again.
-
is it the third hour that is aired on Armed Forces Radio?
Dunno which hour they air. I'm pretty sure its not the second, though.
-
Limbaugh made a zillion bucks when Clinton was in office. Anybody think that he will cry if another Clinton, even worse than the first, gets in? Plenty of fodder for him to rail about on his show. Same if Trump is elected. It's pay dirt baby!
I think Limbaugh should just retire
-
I think Limbaugh should just retire
Too bad he didn't retire a year ago before he disgraced himself like this.
-
Limbaugh won't end up destitute but I think he's a lot nearer to retirement than he planned on being.
-

He and Donald and Billy could have golfed and traveled to the islands together

Hmmm. Your comment just reminded me of the time that Limbaugh came back from an island vacation with a bottle of Viagra with his doctor's name on it.
