Ya don't say. Who didn't see this coming besides Trump?
Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.
President Donald Trump lambasted Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, after the president claims the PA leader deceived him regarding his party’s involvement in anti-Israel incitement.
Trump met with Abbas in the PA-controlled city of Bethlehem last week during his two-day visit to Israel. The two held a joint press conference, at which time the president praised Abbas’ commitment to restarting negotiations with Israel for a final status agreement....

Yep, after a 1000 years, you'd think we would have learned by now
-

Who's playing dumb. We aren't the ones who trusted Abbas. At that, on the thread where Trump was making 'great deals' with Abbas, his defenders, his supporters were saying 'this time it is different'. Seems they were the ones 'playing dumb' in regards to Abbas' history.

Trump needs to get a much-needed clue. You can't make "great deals" with the enemy.... cause you can't trust the enemy. (friggin duh)

But according to a report by Channel 2 Sunday evening, the closed-door meeting between the president and the PA chairman was anything but cordial.

Trump should be furious with himself.
He's the one who shook hands with the scorpion.
-
More fury? It must be the Oval Office that makes presidents furious. Except for Clinton.
-
That's AMAZING! Who ever has heard of a Muslim who lies! THIS IS SHOCKING!

No it's a hostile media that lies and twist everything

Pure theatre, or pure incompetence.

If you think Trump trusts Abbas you've lost your mind. Don't mistake theatre for policy. He knows Abbas history and behavior, and this is part of playing the political game to position Abbas as the guy breaking faith with the President rather than vice versa. It then makes it much more palatable to other Arab allies when we come down hard in favor of the Israelis in the on going Palestinian vs Israel struggle. Its also a means to push other Arab allies to lean on Abbas to change his behavior. A win-win from the U.S. perspective.
-
It's all about those many millions of dollars promised to the Palestinians. Wonder if DT gave them the money on the basis of their 'promises'.

So he is either a liar, naive, or you have a completely false impression of him.

When somebody that is orange turns red does a tree fall in the forest? I'm the same age as Trump, but there are questions and answers that no longer befuddle my mind.

All three at once.

Pure theatre, or pure incompetence.
Wow, @Oceander
I see you're all over the forum in hysterics today, posting and crying like a little girl.
President Trump put on a public display...making a big deal out of meeting and shaking hands with Abbas, only to 'find' he lied to him.
Gee....almost like he went thru ALL OF IT, just to put it on the public record. *****rollingeyes*****

@Mesaclone
That's some pretty amazing eight-dimensional chess.
-
So last week Trump was crowing about how the PA was ready to make peace ...now he's mad because he found out what he should have already known.
You can't trust a terrorist.

I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me why the US is involved in this mess at all.

Israel is an ally. We have a history of playing referee between Israel and the countries around them that want to destroy them.

I understand Israel is our ally @txradioguy and our role to date.
But, during his visit to SA the President began building a coalition of Arab nations to fight ISIS and isolate Iran. Our involvement in the Middle East now also includes our own geopolitical interests and goals.
I hope the President means "one and done" when it comes to negotiating a peace treaty between Israel and the Palestinians. Give it a shot ... every administration has to at least try ... but I hope we don't get bogged down in it as have other US administrations.

Must it be one or the other?

No. Most likely it's a mixture of both.

In all honesty his policy where Israel and the PA are concerned it should be none and done.
Nothing g good comes out of trying to negotiate any kind of peace treaty with the terrorists in Gaza.
They want one thing only and that is the destruction of Israel. Trump shouldn't do anything to help them towards that goal.
Anyone who thinks they can bring "peace in our time" in that part of the world needs only to study Chamberlain to see how well negotiating with a monster works out.
-
Israel is an ally. We have a history of playing referee between Israel and the countries around them that want to destroy them.
Actually I think Ted Cruz gave the best answer on this during campaign season when he said that the only way to have a shot at lasting peace was to get everybody else away from the negotiations. His point being that the Palestinians had no incentive for peace because they know they have supporters of terrorism (and useful idiots) in their corner keeping the money rolling in and the pressure on Israel.

Yes he was spot on with that.
-
If millions of dollars come your way for the explicit reason to constantly attack Israel why would you ever work towards peace.

Which means that Trump needs to cut off the money spigot to Iran via that horrible deal the GOP and Obama made with the Mad Mullahs.
That money is funding the terrorists in Gaza and elsewhere.

Have you lost your wits again?
"That deal" was pure Obama.
-
Trump's doing the best to work out a solution; just because it has failed in the past, doesn't mean it will always fail. Bringing up Neo-Con ideas like Cruz's ideas are, are hardly going to fix the deal. He was for John Bolton for Secretary of State.
-

You weren't paying attention. Bob Corker and a couple other Republican Senators crafted legislation to allow it to happen without the Senate vomiting on it as a treaty. Which they should have.
Brush up on the facts before you accuse others of not knowing what they are talking about.

Any kind of idiotic belief that a two state solution would work is foolish. Anyone pushing that kind of idiotic assisted suicide for Israel truly doesn't understand or care why the outcome would actually be.

Too bad, the Cruz-ers abandoned the most innocent, the unborn. They side with King Herod, now who knows what to make of their statements.
Egypt and Israel were suppose to never get along together either.

Not to mention, it is written.
There will be no peace till Shiloh come.
-
Maybe do something brilliant like Texas Neo-Con George Bush, invade a country and note the following persecution of Christians and do nothing about it.

Bible says thou shalt not kill, doesn't stop some so-called pro-life conservatives.
Israel, the abortion haven? Yeah, that's God's chosen people I'm sure.
-
I didn't vote for someone to run the White House based on end-times prophecies.
-
Bible says thou shalt not kill
One can always tell when someone lacks a basic understanding of the Bible when they quote this. In most every other version/translation of the Bible they have it correctly stated it as "Thou shall not Murder"... It is unfortunate then KJV got this wrong...
Below is the versions side by side for reference....
http://biblehub.com/exodus/20-13.htm
How is it feasible that no killing is allowed, yet just a few verses below that commandment it lists reasons to put people to death?
-
Israel, the abortion haven? Yeah, that's God's chosen people I'm sure.
When God chooses, he has a reason that is beyond our wisdom. It is not for us to second guess God.
I am sure in Israel just like the US, there is still those that don't like abortion at all and understand it for what it is. Murder.

And the Israel of the Bible is not necessarily the Israeli Nation of today. So, that's not second guessing anyone.
Moses brought the 12 tribes back to Canaan in 1445 BC.
536 BC, the Tribes of Judah, Benjamin and Levi returned to Israel.
There was never a foretold 3rd return to Israel.
Now, go ahead and tell me others don't understand the Bible.

Nitpick and insult if you wish, as I said, the Never Trumpers have little else except that and bullying.

My savior founded a Church not a book.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God.
Leave it to the NTs to not only turn away from the pro-life side but now, go against scripture per one trying to make peace. *****rollingeyes*****
