I know most people here haven't even heard of Eurovision - let alone read or heard it.

(I never knew about it until I saw an episode of "Father Ted" years ago)

here's what this young lady sounds like .

Pro-Palestinian protesters — including Greta Thunberg — rail against Israel at Eurovision, which made Jewish state alter song lyrics

Quote

Thousands of anti-Israel demonstrators filled the streets of a Swedish coastal city on Thursday — to protest the country’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, — which almost didn’t happen until Israel removed references to the Oct. 7 Hamas attack in its song entry.

Up to 12,000 people — including Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg — converged in Malmo’s historic Stortorget square near the city’s town hall before marching toward the Eurovision venue, where singers from more than 50 countries are battling.

The protesters waved Palestinian flags; wore keffiyeh scarves; deployed green, black and red smoke bombs to match the flag’s colors; and repeated the chants, “From river to sea, Palestine will be free” and “Israel is a terror state” as police officers watched from rooftops, the streets and even helicopters.

Israeli singer Eden Golan has qualified for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest after a public vote.

Her victory came hours after thousands of pro-Palestinian protestors gathered in the streets of Malmö, Sweden, where the contest is being held, to show their support for Gaza.

A night before, the 20-year-old singer had been booed during dress rehearsals. There was a mixture of cheering and booing again during Thursday's semi-final.

Speaking after the show, she said she was "overwhelmed with emotions".

"It is truly such an honour to be here on stage, representing [Israel] with pride," she said

USCIS and DOL Policy Updates May Allow More Employers to Circumvent Protections for American Workers

By Elizabeth Jacobs on May 8, 2024

USCIS issued a policy update on April 10, 2024, that may expand which types of occupations can circumvent U.S. labor market protections that are required by federal law for employers to sponsor a foreign worker for a green card. By adopting the Department of Labor’s (DOL) definition of which occupations are considered “Schedule A”, USCIS is attempting to streamline how employers can petition foreign workers for green cards at the expense of the already minimal U.S. worker protections. This policy update comes at the same time DOL is considering amending its own regulations to add STEM occupations to the “Schedule A” list. Notably, an employer trying to fill a position in a “Schedule A” occupation may petition USCIS for a foreign worker without first trying to hire an American worker for that position.

Typically, federal law requires employers who wish to petition for an immigrant worker to conduct a labor market test and submit a permanent labor certification application to the DOL Employment and Training Administration (ETA) in a process known as PERM. This process, when completed, allows an employer to hire a foreign worker to work permanently in the United States and allows that foreign worker to receive a green card (i.e., obtain lawful permanent resident status). Green card holders may eventually become citizens or may live and work in the United States as LPRs indefinitely if they choose not to naturalize.

The purpose of the PERM labor certification is to both protect the U.S. labor market from unfair competition and to maintain the working conditions of domestic jobs. While the PERM program is far from perfect and subject to substantial fraud, as reported by the DOL Office of Inspector General (OIG), it is the main tool used by the U.S. government to prevent U.S. workers from being replaced with foreign workers benefiting from the employment-based immigrant visa categories. (The PERM process does not apply to foreign workers seeking to enter the United States on nonimmigrant (temporary) visas.)

The antics displayed by Michael Cohen are turning Judge Merchan ‘feckless’
By Social Links for Jonathan Turley

Michael Cohen is back on TikTok, using the Trump trial to troll for dollars.

Cohen appeared in a T-shirt showing Donald Trump in an orange jumpsuit and asked for more followers.

He also announced his candidacy for Congress, which would allow him to take one of the seemingly few oaths that the serial perjurer has not violated.

Who would have thought that District Attorney Alvin Bragg calling a porn star to the stand would be the moral high ground for key witnesses?

Next will be a disbarred, convicted perjurer who is still seeking to make money off the case.

Fortunately, you are no longer required to put your hand on the Bible in swearing to tell the truth and nothing but the truth.

Otherwise, it might burst into flames.

Out of curiosity @Gefn, why do you want to learn to speak French as opposed to Spanish??

French is a beautiful language and I took it in high school.  I used to be fairly fluent; reading and understanding better than being able to speak the language.

Hi @libertybele

I had 4 years of Spanish in HS- and one year in College. In grad school I had to pass a translation exam in Spanish to graduate.

I thought I would go to Paris in 2020- obviously I didn't. I just got comfortable doing 15-30 minutes a day learning French it's become almost automatic now.

I don't think I will be going to Europe anytime soon but a girl can hope, right ?

Biden’s ‘Family Reunification Parole Processes’ Are Tailor-Made for Corruption

By Andrew R. Arthur on May 8, 2024

While I am a frequent critic of the Biden administration’s (facially abusive) “CHNV” and “CBP One app interview” parole schemes, I’ve been hands-off over a separate program permitting nationals of Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, and Honduras who are beneficiaries of petitions for alien relatives (Form I-130) to also be paroled indefinitely into the United States. Not anymore, because the website for that so-called “Family Reunification Parole Processes” reveals that the program is tailor-made for corruption — likely because and also the reason why Congress has never authorized it.

“DHS Creates Yet Another Parole Program for Aliens to Cut in Line”. Last July, my colleague Elizabeth Jacobs wrote an insightful piece captioned “DHS Creates Yet Another Parole Program for Aliens to Cut in Line”, which details the program and explains why it exceeds DHS’s limited authority to parole inadmissible aliens into the United States.

I’d be gilding the lily to reiterate all the points Jacobs makes therein, but if you want to understand the degree to which the Family Reunification Parole ignores and evades the annual limitations Congress has set on lawful immigration to the United States, she lays it out in detail.

Briefly, however, if you are a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident (“LPR”, i.e., “green card” holder) you can file an I-130 to secure a visa for your alien spouse, parent, or child.
