The quality of food served on Air Force One is 100% cause for concern.

Air Force One is famous around the globe for being the specially modified jets that are used by the President to travel. Technically, AF1 is the call sign for any plane the President is one, but it almost always refers to the customized Boeing 747-200B planes.

The aircraft are a symbol of American power and prestige. Wars can be fought from the air in AF1 if necessary. No country on the planet has the same kind of power and technology.

You'd think that a plane that represents such raw power would have outstanding food.

Horrible pizza served on Air Force One goes viral?

Well, if you expected gourmet dining on the most famous plane in the world, then I have some really bad news for you. It's time to lower your expectations.

Bloomberg reporter Josh Wingrove tweeted a photo of the Detroit style pizza served to people after a Thursday trip to Michigan……and it needs to be seen to be believed. Why the hell is there poppyseed on pizza crust? What is going on?

This might truly be the worst pizza you'll ever see. Yes, I understand it was likely ordered to the plane, but do quality assurance checks no longer exist? Take a look below, and let me know your reaction at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.

This might shock many OutKick readers given my blue-collar roots and working class upbringing, but I know a lot of people who are regularly on Air Force One for reasons I can't publicly disclose.

Naturally, I had to reach out to them to get their assessment of the national disaster served to people on the plane Thursday.

A person who was on AF1 during the Trump administration expressed shock and disgust at the idea people aboard Air Force one were subjected to this low quality food.

He noted lunch servings - a minor deal compared to dinner - were delicious and incredibly high quality. That no longer appears to be the case.

For comparison, here is a look at some tasty McDonald's that Donald Trump serves on his private jet sent to me by Henry Rodgers - a popular figure in the Washington D.C. politics and influence scene. I'd rather take McDonald's (don't act like it doesn't hit the spot) over whatever garbage that was in the photo above.

but do quality assurance checks no longer exist?

A documentary on Air Force One was shown on PBS several years ago.
Normally, the food to be served on Air Force One
is bought by an Air Force officer, usually a Captain,
who goes to grocery stores near Andrews AFB,
dressed in his civilian clothes,
looking just like any one of thousands of
other military personnel stationed at Andrews.
He buys the food and brings it to the aircraft,
where a full time chef prepares it to be served.

This time, the food was probably bought by
an Air Force officer, dressed in his civilian clothes,
who went to a Detroit area pizzeria and picked up a carry out order.

Fun fact - the most distinguishing feature of Detroit style pizza is,
it's cooked in the exact same kind of metal tray
that's used to hold small parts in the auto factories.

Cry me a river. It's not an all inclusive cruise or resort...
Reporters getting taxpayer funded meals and bitching about it.
I simply don't care about their "problem".
Don't like it? Find another job and pay for your own damn food.

I could be worse.  They could be serving one of Big Mike's Nutritious school lunches on AF1.

I've never had Detroit-style pizza (too much crust for my taste), but have seen it featured on several travel/food programs. Never saw it with sesame seeds, though.

Good to be reminded of that.

Between having the fridges jammed up with Ensure and all the cabinets jammed up with these (https://i.imgur.com/4QJM15g.jpeg) I'm surprised there's room for anything else :silly:

It is ridiculous.  My grandkids are a bit older -- but a few years back I checked the bkfast menu and as an example; it was a granola bar, milk or gogurt, juice or some kind of health bar and milk  -- lunch--  salad, fruit, chicken nuggets or garden burger, milk and a piece of fruit or applesauce cup.  Kids need real food and regular portions.  It infuriated me that they weren't allowed to bring a lunch from home!

Things may have changed, but I doubt it.

IF those flying on AF1 don't have the clout to get a decent meal; that's their problem.

There are those in this country who would scramble to get a hold of that food -- gee that's a reality, isn't it?

If I was hired on AF1, the food would be awesome.

When we travel, I always stick a few packets of Nabs and granola bars in my purse. It really isn't that difficult.  :silly:
