Also I don't trust Plastic to hold up over time. I guess Harbor Freight will sell a lot more after market ammo-cans if the Army does make a change.More likely, it's the absence of people willing to do the work. I'd wager robots could, and more economically.
I am not sure I buy the argument they put forth either. They claim not many US companies that can manufacture Ammo-boxes... Bull, there is one within driving distance from me right now with up to 1000 ton presses able to bend any metal they need (and an ammo-can can be bent probable with a 100 ton press).
I happen to have had a longstanding love for the metal ammo cans, and remember the ordnance crates my dad picked up after Korea. Unfortunately, those did not survive the more humid and temperate climate where I grew up, but steel did not do well either due to the salt content in the air.

We can't afford using $500k missiles to take out $2k drones, especially at the current replacement rate. To hell with RTX and Lockheed.

Oil reserves they have. But gasoline reserves? Not even close. Iran does not have the refinery capacity to provide enough gasoline for themselves. They must import gasoline. Except now, they can't import any.
You really want to stir 'em up? Take out a couple of their refineries.
