I think everyone knew this was going to happen do to Ohio law.
ELYRIA, Ohio — An Ohio judge cut practically in half a $44 million award won by small business owners who accused Oberlin College of ruining their business by encouraging protests against them and branding them racists.
On Thursday, Lorain County Judge John Miraldi reduced the total award to $25 million. He ruled David Gibson should receive $14 million in compensatory and punitive damages, his father and family patriarch Allyn Gibson $6.5 million, and their Oberlin business, Gibson’s Bakery, $4.5 million.
Oberlin College President Carmen Twillie Ambar and Board of Trustees President Chris Canavan told alumni during a conference call Thursday night that the school can pay the judgment amount if required but hoped it would be reduced during further legal proceedings, The Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reported.

This is a better article than that AP rehash above.

Expected, but even $25 million is nothing to sneeze at. That will, one hopes, make schools think twice before they let the kiddies get their dancer up too far.

Agreed, except for the dancer part.

It was good for a laugh. Kiddies should never let their dancer get up too far. 888high58888

$25M is certainly better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, but I'd fight for $33M if Oberlin decides it wants to spend $0M. Dancing all the way.
-
This decision is not unexpected, and it's welcome.
The $44 million award wasn't going to stand, and I believe just about everyone involved with the case knew that.
The fact that a -judge- is now putting his hand into it -- for the tune of $25 million -- all but "seals the deal".
The Gibson family should be celebrating this.

Only if Oberlin agrees to pay the $25M. I don't see than happening, unless they have better legal representation than they have shown so far.

To win the case, the attorney would need a better client.
