Over the weekend, members of the Taliban "cut the fingers off 11 Afghan's who...[voted in the June 14] presidential run-off poll."
Taliban attacks also "killed more than 50 people."
According to BBC News, the Taliban warned people not to vote because both candidates--"former Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah and former Finance Minster Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai"--want closer ties to the West. Both candidates also said they would "sign a delayed security pact allowing nearly 10,000 U.S. troops to remain in the country" for two more years.
The fingers were cut off "in western Herat province."
BBC reports that the Independent Election Commission estimates "more than seven million Afghans voted on [June 14], [which is] about 60 percent of the country's 12 million eligible voters."
