Title: Toddler walks one mile for help after mother is allegedly killed by her boyfriend
Post by: happyg on November 08, 2013, 01:45:21 am
A three year old walked one mile by herself to the safety of her grandmother’s house after her mother was allegedly killed by a violent ex-con boyfriend.

From UK Mail Online…

A three-year-old girl walked more than a mile down a busy Florida road to her grandmother’s house to get help after her father allegedly killed her mother, officials said tonight.

Sgt. Kristin Thompson of Lake Bay County Sheriff Department described the actions of the tragic toddler as ‘kind of heroic’ and praised the little girl for managing to cover such a distance to raise help.

The sheriff’s department named Johnny Lashawn Shipman, 36, as the suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest in the death of Kristi Lynne Delaney, 26, of Mascotte, 40 miles west of Orlando.

The little girl knew the route to her grandmother’s house because she had walked it with her mother, Thompson said.

When she arrived, she told her grandmother that her ‘mommy was sick’.

When my son was around that age, I thought he was taking a nap. Instead, he sneaked out and walked at least a mile to the grocery store. He had stolen a bunch of my cancelled checks and decided to buy candy with them. Instead of calling me, they called the cops. The other two boys were still in their beds. He was always a feisty kid.  The cashiers did give him a bag of candy for his effort.

That is funny. When I was a young child, very young, I somehow came across Confederate money in my father's tool shed. I did not know at the time that he was a numismatist, and had coins from New Guiena, France, Egypt, all over the world.

I was old enough to know it was 'money', so I walked to the corner store and tried to buy candy. Same as the guy in the story. The owner called my parents, this was back when America was still America, and they came and picked me up. I only remember this in the big picture because I was so young, but as I remember it, they bought the candy in real money and we left. It was all good.

I guess my father learned that keeping money in the tool shed instead of the safe, was not such a clever deception and was not bugaler safe. lol

I guess I was a smart little thief, at 6 years old.

Usually I'm considered a cold SOB by others, but when it comes to stuff like this or suffering kittens, I'm way too empathetic. Watching a Sarah McLaughlin commercial in a morning will ruin my whole day.

Got a knock on the door at 07:00 once.

My eldest had decided to go get some sweets. She had her birthday money and was going to spend it.

Jay was used to her going into his shop while I went into the butchers next door, so didn't think much of it, until he realized she was on her own. He escorted her back. Three really busy streets to cross. Frightened the life out of me, thinking about it. She was about 3 or 4. We'd accidentally left the back door unlocked.

So happy this little girl is safe!
