Over the weekend the New York Times published an extended scoop about Bill O’Reilly. It turns out that he recently settled yet another sexual harassment case, this time for a staggering $32 million. The allegations were deeply troubling. Here’s the Times:....

....Although the deal has not been previously made public, the network’s parent company, 21st Century Fox, acknowledges that it was aware of the woman’s complaints about Mr. O’Reilly. They included allegations of repeated harassment, a nonconsensual sexual relationship and the sending of gay pornography and other sexually explicit material to her, according to the people briefed on the matter.....

Exactly. This is just more of David French demonstrating that he is still the most irrelevant pundit in the business.

He still has a job and way too many people are still defending him.

If you consider having a podcast a job, sure he still has one. As for defenders, who are all these people you speak of? I can only think of Glenn Beck defending him. What names are I missing? You should be able to rattle off 6 or 7.

And Hannity (who even started bringing him back as a guest) and even Rush the last time I heard him discuss the matter.

It will be hard to continue to defend him though in light of the latest revelation. $32 Million is not a pay off for ease payment

Not when Hannity is still allowed to bring him back as a guest.

It boggles the mind to imagine what Bill O'Reilly could have done to warrant a settlement of $32 million.   That's a lot of scratch, even for having to put up with Bill O'Reilly.

Wow. You listed Hannity and you said Rush was "discussing " it. Boy is that a long list. I had no idea discussing the issue made you a rape appologist.

Michael Jackson paid out millions and it seemed to work out for him.

The key phrase from the settlement:  nonconsensual sexual relationship. Politically correct term for rape.

I actually listened to O'Reilly today.  His story sounds reasonable too.  I wonder which is true?

(And, for the record, I despise O'Reilly, but I wanted to hear what he had to say.)

What was O'Reilly's version? It must be pretty crazy if he chose to pay $32 Million dollars for it not to go to court.

He seemed to be saying that he didn't pay that, and he read a number of emails and letters from the women supposedly involved that were very warm and would have been unsolicited.  (I got interrupted a number of times, so didn't get to hear it all.)

I usually don't account for the 'warm letters' from others as any sort of proof of the specific situation.

When did he discuss this because the revelation today was the actual settlement agreement, so even if he didn't pay it, he signed the agreement to pay.

Beck is going to the mat defending O'Reilly, who is portraying himself as the victim.  Glenn says he never saw O'R harass anyone in front of him.  Well, of course not.

O'Reilly claims Megyn Kelly lied about reporting him.  To bolster his case, he has two thank you notes she sent him.  Problem is, she sent one note in 2009 after a baby shower, and the other in 2012, for helping to promote her husband's project.  She made the complaint in 2016.

The other thing about these thank you notes and letters and such is they really don't prove anything. Even if it did happen, that doesn't mean someone wouldn't send a note like this. With someone very powerful like O'Reilly, you have to play office politics and keep him on your good side. Think about all the photos of Weinstein smiling with his accusers. They had to play nice, even knowing how much of a slimeball he was, in order to keep their jobs.

Also, things like thank you notes for shower gifts may have been sent by an assistant going through a list of gifts received. I doubt someone like Megyn Kelly has time to personally write hundreds of thank you notes. She has people she pays to do this.

I'm willing to wait for more information, but admit it doesn't look good for O'Reilly.

@AbaraXas

That hadn't occurred to me, but it's a good point.

The problem is this is something like the 12th accuser he has settled with, prior to this it was still in the millions of dollars for each settlement. Some of these accusers are very, very big names and are all consistent with the story.

The settlements he is making isn't just one of those, throw a few dollars at it so you don't have to pay a lawyer. $10 million or especially $32 million scream of being afraid of this coming to light and not wanting this to go to court.

If it was one or two unknown accusers who seem desperate for the money, that's one thing. But like Weinstein's accusers, they really didn't have anything to gain by coming out, they were all wealthy and famous on their own and the risk would be high in coming out.

I can add to that and have discussed this before, that I know someone who used to work on Fox Business and he has been saying for years that between O'Reilly and Ailes, it was a cesspool of harassment.

Yeah, O'Reilly said over his 30-something years in TV, he had settled exactly twice.  I don't know how to reconcile the two accounts.
