Grand jury selected to consider Donald Trump election fraud case
A US grand jury assembled in Georgia is set to consider evidence against ex-president Donald Trump over efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
The grand jury, based in Atlanta, may decide whether Mr Trump should face criminal charges for trying to overturn his narrow loss in the state.
The Republican has denied wrongdoing, calling the case a "witch hunt".
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Wallis, a Democrat, launched the investigation in early 2021.
The two-and-a-half year probe has grown into a sprawling inquiry into various efforts by Mr Trump and his allies to sway the election results in his favour.
Those efforts include a January 2021 call between Mr Trump and the state's chief elections officer, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, in which the then-president suggested state officials could "find" more than 11,000 votes - enough to give him a victory in that state.
In a recording of the call, Mr Raffensperger is heard replying that Georgia's results are correct.
In the months after he left the White House, Mr Trump continued to make unsubstantiated allegations of widespread electoral fraud and claimed that votes were stolen from him.
But Mr Trump - currently the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination - continues to deny the 2020 presidential election results, and has called the probe a "political witch hunt", describing his call with Mr Raffensperger as "perfect"................

Any attempt to overturn an election that was CERTIFIED is a big no-no. If it is proven that Trump in fact tried to have Kemp overturn an election he should face the consequences for doing so.

But this should all be swept under the carpet until after the 2024 election, so we can find out that we've elected a felon to office only after the election. Sort of like Obamacare - they had to enact it before we could find out what was in it.

My concern is the legitimacy of the proof. Keep in mind the false Russian collusion and bogus impeachment; the leftists have been out to hang Trump since he decided to run for president and they are out to prevent him from running again. According to the article the recording only states that the results are correct. IF there is a recording of Trump asking him to overturn the election then that's a whole different story.

There are tape recordings of phone calls ... probably authenticated, corroborated, and verified by the other participants on those phone calls, plus the phone records.

Trump should have had a useful idiot underling make a phone call on a pay phone or a burner phone, outside the White House or outside any other official buildings.
If Trump is going to act like a Mob boss, he should do it correctly. We all know from crime shows and movies that you don't discuss potentially illegal matters on the phone.
Trump's best angle to is to claim insanity. Trump was so insanely delussional he thought what he was doing was legal, and, therefore he could freely discuss it on an open phone line.

A place with a 31% black electorate and a large number of upper class caucasians who want him to disappear, who re-elected their governor and SOS over his protestations. The party cannot afford to throw away 16 EVs.

I'm generally split on this because I know the intentions of those trying to take him down, and the precedent it sets, and knowing it won't stop with Trump.
But at the same time Trump does this to himself with his hubris and tendency to insert foot in mouth while being recorded, when he should darn well know better.
I want a Teddy Roosevelt, take-no-prisoners, silent assassin type GOP President, not bluster and bombast yet too afraid to pull the trigger.

The worst part is that he called Raffensperger at all. No one did more to ensure Trump's loss in Georgia than did Brad Raffensperger. The only thing Trump should have called him for is to serve an arrest warrant. When it comes to politics, Trump is an idiot. It was clear in early 2020 that Raffensperger, Kemp, and Ralston were not his friends.

Georgia already lost two US Senate seats. And one in Michigan. Think how much better off we would have been with 53 GOP Senate seats in 2021.

More accurately, a Trump endorsement is a kiss of death for those who control the election counts. As unpopular as Brad Raffensperger is, there is no way in hell he wins his race by the largest margin of all the statewide candidates.

Lt. Gov Jones - 51.4% | Margin - +7.0%
AG Carr - 51.9% | Margin - +5.3%
SoS Raffensperger - 53.2% | Margin - +9.2%
Walker - 48.5% | Margin - -0.9%
There is no way that down-ticket idiots like Carr, Jones, and Raffensperger get GOP votes that Walker did not get. Elections in Georgia are rigged. That is a fact. The GOP here is completely corrupt.

There is no way that down-ticket idiots like Carr, Jones, and Raffensperger get GOP votes that Walker did not get.
Why not? Most of the independents admire Raffensperger and Kemp. Carr and Jones are less visible and got the natural partisan tilt. Walker seems to be a likable fellow but only a couple of steps up from Fetterman.

A lot of Democratic voters (millenials, zoomers, minorities, etc.) don't vote downticket IMO. They're just concerned with the "big races" and that's it. We get the same effect in NH. Basically low info voters.
